My parents are in jail for child abusing me and my brother. They would him me with a stick on the back or tie me to my bed and whip me. They hit my brother on the butt with a belt with spikes and he's 4! One day when we at school the teacher saw a scar on my face and shoulder and pulled me aside to tell me why I have it. I didn't tell her they abuse me though..I don't know why:( then when I got home my mom was holding my brother on her lap and started spanking him hard that it was red..I think the neighbors heard the crying but did nothing. So, I told them I was gonna do my chores and went upstairs to my room and called the police and they went to jail! (Good for them) Then we were put into child care and now we live with a family who loves us

@lyn7girl I remember seeing this movie during a summer I spent in Britain over 20 years ago, and was absolutely horrified. This so-called father was a P.O.S. who apparently was gratified by watching his daughter get beatings. This took place in 1941, when child abuse was not taken seriously. Ironically, I read somewhere that Juanita Carberry gave an interview many years later in which she said she does support spanking as punishment, but not to the extent which she was forced to endure.

I feel very much sorry for this teenage girl. She must be a brave girl. She withstand with very harsh canning on her back. In the second incident, when stepdad warns that she is going to be severely punished, she does not appeal for any leniency. She just lowered her shorts to her underwear. Then without any hesitation she lies down offering her bottom which is only covered by tight white underwear for harsh caning. As a school boy who suffered caning on my bottom several times, I know how painful it was. Anyhow then we got caning on our short-clad bottoms.

@@richana5843 - that, my friend, is simply not true. "Inspired by" is far from being based on a true story. These caning scenes were pure fiction by the creator, Sarah Wainwright.
I think that was Tappy getting the ruler at the start of the scene, and she doesn't flinch. No only does she not flinch she smiles a bit, and then we learn that that was her third punishment that week. They were developing her character for us so that we can understand how she can give beatings without thinking twice about them, because she seemingly enjoyed them herself. Look closely at the girl's face in the first scene, it is a flashback to Tappy when she was in school.

Broughton shot himself in Liverpool..The man depicted in this clip is Carberry. Anyway, Juanita is said to have been sired by Maxwell Trench, Carberry' s business partner at Seremai There is another book called "Child of Happy Valley" that's returned to print. Its a good read.
This father was not far off this father of mine. Only the brutish instrument he employed for beating me up was one of my brothers whose sadistic tendencies meant he jumped at every opportunity to beat me. Even my own mother, who claimed to love me. shame on her, used to set my brother on me sometimes if she felt I "stepped out of line." Some families are sheer evil. Needless to say, I had little contact with my family for years. I have been in therapy for years. I suffered panic attacks. I am now in therapy for more specialised treatment for Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I now have a loving husband, thank goodness. However, I have had some very unpleasant abusive phone calls from my sadistic brother, the only surviving member left. This was like a few years ago and a horrific reminder of the past. I was called a number of highly abusive names beginning with B and C. In one call, he accused me of committing fraud against him. In another, he slandered my husband to me and swore at me for no reason. I had 3 of these calls, and since then, I blocked him from my phone. If ever I come across a child in a similar plight, I will do all I can to help them.
Holly was simply amazing here. Michael was awesome, was there any fun on this film you may ask? Yes there was. Michael was always joking, but when the cameraman called "action", both Holly and Michael was sublime.
the events in this film have been exaggerated for dramatic effect. she was never beaten with a rhino whip or left with blood soaked cloths. if you read her own account of her childhood she says she never received more than 12 strokes with a cane and usually less, which was probably not out of the ordinary in those days.
I have read her account and she specifically says she was once left with her shorts and blouse soaked through with blood. (The day she went to the police station, as accurately depicted here.) She also mentions that that wasn't the only time blood was drawn from her, as some batty governess drew blood with a shoe tree (courtesy of a metal spring built into it), when she used it on her. What isn't accurate is that in the book she specifically mentions that her father-who-turned-out-not-to-be-her-father never laid a hand on her, he was always getting some governess or other to do it. The amount done in that last, rather revolting, scene is more than she says happened in the book, but 12 is more than enough to draw blood, even if it isn't done with a sjambok. On that subject, 12 strokes was pretty exceptional even at public schools in the 19th century. Not unheard of, but pretty rare. Being done to a girl, especially one nearly grown up, was a HELL of a lot rarer.
i stand corrected, i must admit i was repeating something i heard second hand so it wasn't corroborated. as to whether 12 strokes was rare i still think there would have been alot of abusive adults treating children such even if not drawing blood.
The other inaccuracy is that she was never beaten on the back. Only on the buttocks. She recalled the police officer's embarrassment when she showed him the marks.

Sassy unicorn I don't know what you're goal is but the studdis have been done and the data is in, children who are physical punish are more likely to commit crimes, use drugs and abuse there partners so if that's your goal keep it up. If that is not the case the only reason to hit them is that you like hitting them. Ps I'm not saying they will turn out bad (like I can't guarantee it) but you are truly doing the groundwork.
Sassy Unicorn don’t spank your 9 and 10 year olds they are old enough to understand when you’re speaking to them give them time out or something like this! And don’t take their underwear off that’s just plain creepy and yes even when you are their mom it’s sexual abuse
This is sadism, absolute and sheer sadism, NOT discipline. Juanita didn't deserve those beatings. When I got the back of my legs smacked, it was for being disrespectful, so if you're going to spank your child, at least do it when it's necessary, and not with a stick. I think using a stick to punish is too harsh.
I think your parents know exactly what they are doing, very good. Whipping the thighs is even more painful than the back. Of course not too hard either, but perhaps instead of a stick maybe a nice long heavy leather belt, yes? Give those thighs a little shine and then let you walk in a short skirt so everybody knows you've been punished. I've been punished hard as a kid myself, so I know what's good :-)
Research shows that ANY hitting has backfire effects. Sure a seat will get your kids to stop behaving quicker...at first. Then they grow thick skin, a swats no longer enough, they learn to hit others to get their way in life, AND they never learned a true lesson. Patience and communication take longer but have lasting effects and help model the child into a more patience and respectful adult. Treat other beings as you would want to be treated! Some other countries have outlawed corporal punishment. Amazing you cant hit a stranger, your wife, or an animal (there are laws protecting them) but what protects the defenseless children? They are growing and learning how to grow and develop their coping abilities. So next time your toddler is crying and throwing a tantrum just imagine someone screaming and hitting you while your distressed; would it calm you down?
Miss Mel The wisdom of the ages shows that a hard slap to the cheeks quickly discourages all sorts of nuisance from a child. And if that's sometimes not enough then it's proven itself from the dawn of man to today that a good whipping from the old man does wonders. You know what, I got the belt and so did all the other kids I went to school with. It's normal. As far as you're concerned I hope you get someone in your life that has been raised exactly the way you think is right. And that you can't get rid of him or her.
Disciplining a child is part of being a good parent, but hitting a child is *always* wrong & a sure sign you've failed. An accidental smack which can happen to the best of parents when they're frustrated, sleep deprived etc may not traumatize a child, but it only teaches them that it's ok to hit others: animals, siblings, schoolmates, and later in life their spouse.
I got a belt but there were never marks. But it HURT! and it sucked emotionally. It was the reserved punishment, wasn't more than 2, maybe 3 times a year. It worked in the 80s.
@@nonameyet9165 Even red skin is still a 'mark' though. The belt would have caused damage to the flesh below your skin which caused your blood to rise to the surface, hence the redness.

Then without any hesitation she lies down offering her bottom which is only covered by tight white underwear for harsh caning. As a school boy who suffered caning on my bottom several times, I know how painful it was. Anyhow then we got caning on our short-clad bottoms.
Hey Pedro do think you could post the whole movie for us pleazeeee... :)
Did she even do anything wrong?
Ya that's the point if she doesn't do any wrong why she will get spank like that I think she did something
The legacy of poor/inhumane parenting by frontier-type fathers can still be seen in the American West. Overbearing, overly rigid minded fathers results in emotionally closed kids. I see this in certain young men
Gosh, I wondee what the unhappy valley is like.
This is so cruel😰😣😣.Poor girl. The man must be punished severely.
Swayamdipta Manna the man must be punished with the Death (him and the woman adult)😡
poor little girl really cruel treatment
you know it's a movie, right?
@@richana5843 - that, my friend, is simply not true. "Inspired by" is far from being based on a true story. These caning scenes were pure fiction by the creator, Sarah Wainwright.
you're aware that this is a movie with actors?
I think that was Tappy getting the ruler at the start of the scene, and she doesn't flinch. No only does she not flinch she smiles a bit, and then we learn that that was her third punishment that week. They were developing her character for us so that we can understand how she can give beatings without thinking twice about them, because she seemingly enjoyed them herself. Look closely at the girl's face in the first scene, it is a flashback to Tappy when she was in school.
Как называется фильм
No it was Juanita in the movie she got the Ruler because she talked in swahili in class or sth
Le ha azotado en la espalda o en las nalgas?
No worries...Juanita is still very much alive, living in London. The story is a bit old hat now.
why is this movie called,"Happy Valley"? it has a lot of sad scenes in it.
They were part of the "Happy Valley" set of Kenyan white settlers.

Broughton shot himself in Liverpool..The man depicted in this clip is Carberry. Anyway, Juanita is said to have been sired by Maxwell Trench, Carberry' s business partner at Seremai There is another book called "Child of Happy Valley" that's returned to print. Its a good read.
That was tolotley uncalled for.
BRUISES & BLEEDING ARE ABUSE, PERIOD.
I agree.
yes it is
Anyone know where I can get this miniseries?
What movie is this??
it takes a cruel person to do that to a child
NarwhalBarf true a child her age doesn’t deserve this
Elena Khalifeh no child deserves this.
beyond cruel and deserving of execution. slow and educational execution.
Been done that by my brother.
Extremely cruel. A bad person acually.
А что за фильм?
Extremely sadistic, how awful. That's one twisted relationship between the governess and the father, getting off on hurting the girl together O:
Wat the name of the series
Happy valley. Actually based on memoirs… it all actually happened and the abuse wasn’t unusual
Can any one tell me what the name of this soundtrack? ????
Holly was simply amazing here. Michael was awesome, was there any fun on this film you may ask? Yes there was. Michael was always joking, but when the cameraman called "action", both Holly and Michael was sublime.
How TH do you know?
i cant find this soundtrack to Geoffrey Burgon

Oh no not the n word how stupid
Why are they canning her can anyone pls explain me?
Like whats going on?
He beat her actual back 😢
Plz
How can I find this soundtrack? ??
the events in this film have been exaggerated for dramatic effect. she was never beaten with a rhino whip or left with blood soaked cloths. if you read her own account of her childhood she says she never received more than 12 strokes with a cane and usually less, which was probably not out of the ordinary in those days.
Very true, I'm sure you're right.
Didn't this lass go on to play Jerome Flynn's missus in Soldier Soldier a few years later?
The other inaccuracy is that she was never beaten on the back. Only on the buttocks. She recalled the police officer's embarrassment when she showed him the marks.
Is this movie available on DVD? I couldn't find it yet?
some good acting. i think i'll check this one out. little depressing though...
Could you take the whole movie and post it on the website for me?
Why she was beaten?
She found out that her father and the governess were having an affair. She was seen and that's why she was beaten.
That's child abuse and cruelty!
What show is this because I want to watch it
i Love it, awesome video, you are really courageous, so nice as always carry on, you know a single rose can be my garden single friend my world, a friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are, the more we help others to succeed, the more we succeed, get started forever, Let's fly together and win together

Is this a Movie or a TV Series?
What would of happend if she refused to have the punishment?
They would have forced her to bend over anyway. Plus back then if she had tried to escape them the police would have brought her back.
Davy Smith koo
'would of' ? seriously?
This is a true story, in real life after the last bloody caning the girl escape to a police station and the court didn’t send her back to the abusive home, instead she was send to a cousin who take good care of her
There was another drama very similar to this called Flame Trees of Thikka or something. I think Holly Aird was in that too.
It was child abuse they should be in jail
Which movie is this ? I know there are many movies made in 1950s to 1970s but are hidden which were telling the actual truth happened to women is really sad ...
Brutality, brutality and brutality. These scenes are distrubing expressions of cruelity and abuse of children.
Please please ask youtube to remove this awful video. Click on three dots at bottom of video and select "Child Abuse".
Okay, I now have a copy of the whole movie. Got a used videotape, transferred it to DVD. Two questions:
1. What movie is the initial school scene from? It's not on the commercial videotape for Overindulgence/The Happy Valley. Was it perhaps cut for the video release?
2. Do I really need a third-party program to convert the contents of a DVD to .mov or .mpeg on a Mac? Can't I do it with iDVD or iMovie?
Reminds me of my childhood my parents always spank the shit out of me with whatever they had in their hand:/
That was a horrible childhood for me it was the wores:'(
+Maribel Medina I' m terribly sorry for what you've been through as a young girl.
Violence remains violence.
violence and justice are two different things, and no one has to mixe two with the intention to justify their beasty and rustrated aggresive side.
Sassy Unicorn don’t listen to what they said do what you want and think is right just don’t I’ve do it
Maribel Medina same here still am a kid so still getting spanked
What is the end of this movie
This is sadism, absolute and sheer sadism, NOT discipline. Juanita didn't deserve those beatings. When I got the back of my legs smacked, it was for being disrespectful, so if you're going to spank your child, at least do it when it's necessary, and not with a stick. I think using a stick to punish is too harsh.
srinama dasa He is saying to use a wire gets the best results. I recommend a nice heavy appliance power cable. It bruises.
I’d say her “Valley” was quite UNhappy😫.
I dunno how I got here by searching Valentina but I wanna see the movie now

Jade warns Jackie
what did she do
can some tell me where can i find this movie pls
Oh no The girl is getting really punishment
Oh, and by the way. It's not that great a movie. The description/premise sounds a lot more interesting than the movie actually is.
I got a belt but there were never marks. But it HURT! and it sucked emotionally. It was the reserved punishment, wasn't more than 2, maybe 3 times a year. It worked in the 80s.
How could have there been no marks if you got the belt? Unless you were tapped with it.
Jessica I'm sure my butt was red but there were never marks or bruises. It was an awful burning like pain.
Darren Chapman child abuse, pure and simple!
It never really works but it is nice when the revenge for it occurs.
@@nonameyet9165 Even red skin is still a 'mark' though. The belt would have caused damage to the flesh below your skin which caused your blood to rise to the surface, hence the redness.
Juanita Carberry was very brave. Her book is great. I don"t know why this isn't on DVD.
You can see the film but remember to type
The Happy Valley-1986 with Holly Aird, Denholm Elliott.
@@Chaseniceness there is a US system NTSC video of it called Overindulgence. The rest of the film and the music are beautiful.
I agree with all of you.

So SAD. I feel sorry for any victim. I pray for it to stop

Juanita Carberry's book tells the story.
