    I Got it, its about letting air go freely out of the throat and controlling the speed of your breath with your diaphragm muscles near the hip.

    You guys are awesome. As a self taught singer- learning bits n pieces here and there - and having used my previous experience as a dancer as well as yoga instructor - I was FLOORED to find out today that.. I haven't been messing up!!! I mean - I'm shocked! And today I tripped over something and had to take a day off from my workout while icing my knee lol - I saw these advanced videos and honestly - I'm just relieved that I haven't been doing anything to hurt my voice! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I mean that with my whole heart !! Also you are Great human beings!!!! Your personality Eric is adorable!!! I love you!!! And Mike you too!!! I'm so touched by your generosity - education was something that saved my childhood so teachers are tops in my estimation - I love you both! 🌊🐬🌊 Thank you for setting my mind at ease and encouraging me to continue my journey 💗

    So all we doing is hissing right? Because the other parts I can't do, not in my current position which is living with my parents. But the whole point of hissing is to let the body know that you don't need to release excess amounts of air to keep a note right? The hiss is like a restriction to help use the breath more efficiently right?

    • @MikeBryant1
      @MikeBryant1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      R RRR - What's up man! The hissing exercise can help with that 😁. When you read this, I want you to find the note/range you want to sing with more power or more of a chesty mix. Begin to hiss with as much intensity you can handle WITHOUT ANY THROAT TENSION. Feel your body engage, then go into a buzzy Z sound on that note, then release into an open tone (ah, oh, etc). All of this is on one breath. This is a safe way to explore power my dude ✊🏾.

    Mike , I got a question for you. i hope you can help me out with this ... im practicing every day and i picked up the 360 breath technic. my question is, is THIS advanced breathing technic the right one i should focus on when it comes to singin or the other 360 one ? i have to say i LOVE this new technic ... what i do is , i practice both at the time ...is that right ?? or is it clever to always use this down breathing technic ??
    Oh and with the HISS , when i practice the 40 second hiss in my warmup , can i use this technic or is it just right with the 360 breath ??
    that confuses me a lil bit ...
    i hope you can help me out
    That would be awesome !!!!
    nice greetings from Austria

    Hello Mike I just watched your video which is really helpfull and well explained☺. Do you have advice about how to root the breath faster... I mean when you are in the middle of the song?! All the best and Happy New Year from Paris😃

    • @MikeBryant1
      @MikeBryant1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Samira Raschke - Hey there, Samira! 👋🏾. Keep working with the exercises & eventually, rooting the breath will be a conditioned response that happens naturally, versus you needing to make it happen quickly. As you're reading this, observe your passive breathing. Notice how your abdomen naturally reacts without effort? Now sing a couple lines. See how it still reacts effortlessly? Through conditioning, the pelvic floor will be the same, effortlessly & automatically reacting to every breath, including while singing 🙂. It takes time but it will happen!

    Thanks for the video Mike! One question: When I sing high notes then I cannot sing lower notes anymore! Why? The lower tones sound weak and I get a lot of phlegm...please, help me to understand what I am going wrong!

    • @MikeBryant1
      @MikeBryant1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      alessparrow - Hey! No problem!
      As for your question, I need to hear you to be certain, but a common reason is an imbalance of registers. You may be pulling head voice back down (even slightly), which is causing your chest voice to sound weaker. Or, if you sing primarily in head voice, then go to sing in chest voice, your chest voice my sound weaker due to the lack of consistent coordination & conditioning. Again, this is speculation without hearing you.
      One thing you can try is hissing into your chest voice range (i.e on ah), then on that same breath, slide up and down your range (going from chest to mix to head and reverse), making sure you're blending (no flips or jumps). This can help to strengthen the coordination & conditioning throughout your entire range 👍🏾

    And I had also strained my voice 2 months ago while singing a high note and because of that I have to go on vocal rest for 1 month no singing for one month after that I'm really scared to sing high notes

    • @MikeBryant1
      @MikeBryant1  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bhavya Jain - Hey! Vocal strain is common BUT can be avoided with proper conditioning. The exercise in this video will help sing on your body instead of your throat. In doing so, you will have confidence for hitting high notes with protection. If you'd like to schedule a lesson for personal attention, email me 👍🏾 ... michaelwilsonbryant@gmail.com

    I have to sing a lot at work/use my voice and I was wondering since I want to stay dillegent with my practice at home but also maintain healthy stamina how much should I practice! because I find I rarely have time for myself to practice because my voice is already always somewhat fatigued by the time I am done with work.:/ And it's hard to balance how much I out in at work and how much I can maintain outside of work?

    Do you teach the technique of placement/forward tone and singing in the mask?

    • @MikeBryant1
      @MikeBryant1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey! Not in the traditional sense. Often, when "placement/forward tone and singing in the mask" is emphasized, singers tend to go to the extremes by locking up their throat & putting excess stress on their larynx, causing it to rise with tension. However, since they can feel a buzzing or intense sensation in the mask, they think that coordination is optimal, hoping they're producing their best tone.
      To achieve the most open, free, and healthy tone, my perspective is focusing on body connection and exercises to create an "open throat" feel. With this, the resonators are free to vibrate, including that which might be understood as the "mask." To me, it's a more natural way to feel vibration and control of the voice, versus "placement."
