Yeah, one of my main complaints for games like Tarkov for example is the fact that bushes and trees are perfect concealment, and there's no way to verify every bush without making yourself a target.
Nowadays most of the AAA developer team are just artists and producers instead of coders. Hundreds of them. Think about how much better games would be if they dialed it down a bit with the asset complexity so they could hire more programmers.

In all seriousness, yeah. I've played some dogshit looking games, still go back to ones that're older than the average Squad player, and it has little to no bearing on how fun it is. Nice graphics are... nice, but not if it's at the expense of gameplay and other aesthetic elements (sound design being a big one). It also delays the development of additional content, makes modding (where applicable) a more intensive endeavour, and needless to say, results in worse performance. And it's at a point now where it's a matter of severely diminished returns. It has little effect on how fun a game is, and doesn't even necessarily make a game more immersive.
I have never played PR but after Squad announced that they are adding paid emotes as microtransactions, it might be worth getting into PR for the first time.

I'm not against emotes by themselves as long as it's within reason and I don't see someone flossing on top of a bmp. Paid emotes, I don't like, but I can live with as long as the quality of the game doesn't go down as a result. The devs have a good game in a niche market. It's in their best interest not to completely piss off their only fanbase. We'll see though. I've seen dumber things happen. The moment they start adding a bunch of goofy emotes and skins though, I'm out. I enjoy silly stuff in games but not in my tactical shooters.

Last time i played PR, My squad leader was a self declared 56 year old "boomer" who shared his life stories about his time spent working and living in different asian and pacific countries. For a good 40 something minutes, all of us in the squad were huddled together on a roof "defending" our last objective listening, commenting and laughing along with our squad leader. Been on and off PR for a over a decade and I've had so many dynamic fun moments like that. Niche online games like these is good combination of serious and fun. Yes, the gunplay is a bit jank but once you're used to it, it ain't so bad. Nice to see the game is still alive.

When they added local voice and the enemy team could hear it, it became twice as fun playing as insurgent or taliban after a successful ambush or IED. Whole bunch of guys from Europe and America screaming *snackbars* lol

You're really crying about them selling hand emotes? There is no battle passes, not extra charge for new content, but yet you're complaining about them trying to support their game/staff by selling hand emotes. LOL, the community is better off without you.
@@GetOffMyStoop Nah man. Rather than that, they started by adding paid emotes. How much more will they be adding next, loot boxes, clown skins that doesn't fix with the story/lore? I doubt they'll stop with just those, can't trust a company that values money above all else to keep the spirit of the game and the realism alive. That's what people are worried about.
@@GetOffMyStoop people are upset about it because it will become a slippery slope of microtransaction hell. Also, OWI promised not to insert microtransactions in the game, yet here we are. And there's third person emotes as well, that while they're supposed to be used only at base or during setup phase, doesn't make any sense in a game grounded in reality and focused entirely on being a first person experience.

The thing with the bullet registration would be the variance in the bullet velocity. you're used to the svd, which is okay, but that would also indicate that youre probably accounting for that weapon specifically rather than the one youre equipped with. just a thought, i could be completely wrong.

I love how much more slower paced and tactical PR is compared to games like Squad. Feels like your plays and teamwork matter a hell of a lot more.
I was watching armor and heli gameplay and it looks so much more arcadey and fast paced. Also the worse graphics make it less realistic

It's the gunplay. 90% of ''''''milsim'''''' muh realism-type shooters have hilariously arcady gun play that destroys any notion of tactics and just makes it a plink fest. Squad was also extremely guilty of this and why 'fire and manuever' type gameplay just never really existed in it. Same for HLL, PS, and all these other would-be realism games. They're all just laser tag and that shuts down most tactical play. Project Reality has a much more realistic level of weapons accuracy in play due to the deviation and weapon resting system, as well as suppression actually mattering. Only other game I've seen that is ArmA and Red Orchestra 2 before they nerfed the suppression into the dirt because the airsofters cried.

The deviation is everything I think.... makes people slow down and stick together to maximize return fire and accurately work on hitting your target vs squad plays like insurgency lol

@@maskettaman1488 Squad is a MilSim shooter, the devs said they want to introduce paid emotes which are going to be like the ones in fortnite basically, they have said it's going to be limited to hand gestures tho, the real problem most players see with this is that it's a step in the wrong direction for the game

As someone who got into PR in 2012, I’m glad that you’re showing it off to a new generation of players. Squad just doesn’t have the same depth of content that PR has, and with the way OWI is headed, I doubt it ever will.
played PR back when it was the only mod endorsed by EA on their site. back before 1.0. Amazing time with some of the best memories i ever had gaming.
Its crazy that Project Reality and Forgotten Hope 2 are still better than most of the shooters coming out. And those are mods. For Battlefield 2.

To this day the only 'milsim' game other than ArmA to have remotely realistic gunplay and thus actual tactics. Squad, HLL, PS, all these other crappy 'realism' games were all just laser tag. Can't have tactics when everyone is an ultra-precise twitch shooting terminator because there's basically no deviation or sway, let alone suppression, involved.

PR is done honestly. Don't fall for this video. Only one server in US is up on good days and that's heavily influenced by hackers. Not the server, the game itself is a save haven for hackers.
It's sad, just enormously sad. PR was and still is the best tactical shooter available. Best for being the only game actually having full combined arms warfare, without turning into some role playing shit like Arma. While Arma is great in itself, but sometimes you just want to two teams beat each other up, in the most eloquent way possible and that's where PR is. Well, where it was 10 years ago. Hackers ruined the community however, and it just never will become, what it once was. There is no chance. Just a few people, who can't stop playing and some trolling newbies are left and you really don't wanna spend your time with these elitists and trolls/noobs.
PR is unironically better than Squad, and I've played a lot more squad but only because it's just simpler to hop into a game and find players for. PR just has that late 2000's modded game feel that is hard to explain, similar to ArmA 2 ACE.
Thing I hate about PR right now is almost NO communication. And people tend to play lone wolf's. Ain't the same in Squad. And community in PR were more talkative a few years back
PR is sick, free too and don't need a really good PC. I didn't play it because of my shitty lag but i got a new WiFi adapter and should work fine now.

I don't really like squad anymore as its almost impossible to get into any useful servers as they are often full servers or technical issues with connecting on them. and sometimes when i try to connect on a server my internet compleetely breaks down and my internet is back on after a few minutes after exiting squad.
Ngl I'd play project reality more if not for the shitty optimizations on it. Can't even play the game when simply looking in the direction where there's loads of enemies cause lag

I like PR and all but man that bullet deviation really gets on my nerves. It's very frustrating to line up my shot and miss. I understand that the guns don't have any sway, but bullet spread is not a preferable alternative to sway.
Played a ton of BF2 and PR back in high school, 15 years ago. It's true that Squad has really been a disappointment in all the ways it's failed to live up to what was promised as PR's "spiritual successor", and I may just decide to pick up PR again and give it a try to see if I can relive some of the old days. One thing to keep in mind though is that even back then I remember the PR community was frustrated with all the limitations inherent in BF2 and was real eager to move on to ARMA2 which was seen as more flexible. Also, while Squad isn't perfect, considering how the Battlefield series has been butchered, PR would probably need to be able to attract Squad players the way it relied on BF2 to bring in new players back in the day.
I swear one of the best moments I ever had in this game, me and my squad were planning to ambush the enemy team by flanking them, we were knee-deep in enemy territory going through a building just having conversations and making banter while walking when one guy got capped by a sniper while passing by a window. Our medic dragged him off and we made sure to prone below while the sniper continued to take pot-shots at us.
eventually we ambushed a truck then all got killed by either an RPG or a frag grenade. But that window part always stuck with me, it felt just like a movie especially since the squad leader was telling everyone to duck and stay away from the windows.
downloaded PR a few weeks ago, played it and I gotta say the playerbase is as clueless most of the time as Squad. Only difference is that the riflemen are from 3rd world countries who have garbage PCs.
3rd worlders make better rifleman that suburban 13 year olds
because (1) BF2 have insufficient call-out options, so people who don't use mic cannot reply when people ask for intel. (2) BF2 lag-compensation is not good enough to account for ping from 3rd world country, so they could only hit target that is not moving. (BF2 came out in 2005, a PC classified as "garbage" would have been a 20-year-old PC made before the player are born.)
That's not my experience at all. HOG (English server) holds most of the experienced players but because it's often full of foreigners, cohesion suffers a lot as many pp dont speak the same language. This is noticeably worse during the morning as people from other servers who still wanna play flock to HOG. Otherwise it's a great servers. Now in general it's often a nice experience however it depends on the squad leaders as If a side has a lack of good leaders it's going to be a steamroll. I've seen lots of vets that only play assets with their clan mates or when they do play infantry its often in a locked squad, they dont teach the newbies at all. As a squad leader I'm able to gather 7 total noobs and turn them in a coherent squad where everybody performs well AND enjoys the game, the most important part but most vets dont enjoy squad leading and/or dont have the patience for it (which I do).
PR players arent the vibe tho.
Those dudes take things way way way too seriously. That whole game is a joke because of it. Everyone I've talked to has had a similar experience. Being a new player is brutal in general without getting yelled at for some stupid crap.
The last squad I had was acting all tactical and whatnot and then I stopped covering my sector to look around for just a second and the SL popped his fkn top at me. So screw it I watched my sector and then maybe 30 seconds later the enemy showed up and these tactical guys who take this soooo seriously get wiped out in 5 seconds. Then after I dunked on the 3 dudes that killed them all its "find the medic kit and revive us" dude I legit just laughed into my mic until they squad kicked me.
I can tell you multiple stories like that but thats been my experience 100% of the time with the game. Squad that takes things too seriously and pretty much just wanna powertrip at someone for a tiny mistake and then they get wiped out because they're more focused on what I'm doing than playing the game themselves.
The only squad I had that was good was like 3 guys because we all agreed the SL was being rude af for no real reason so we left and made our own. I'm not even bad at the game or something. I've been playing milsim games since 2010 or so (ARMA 2 ACE) and played BF2 back in its hey dey. Like I know wtf I'm doing when it comes to small unit tactics/CQB/fire and maneuver, etc. Its not like I'm lost or something with how to act in the squad. Its just the second you do something the SL doesnt want they think its cool to just yell at you over the mic, like bro its a game, touch grass.
I've really never played a game that is so ridiculously unwelcoming to new players. Most every other milsim people want to work together and have the spirit of Jolly Cooperation.

Heck I've been kicked even WITH a mic after saying "Yes I have a mic, can you hear me" they kick me and then tell me "you didnt respond" like......... bro I am arguing with you over vox right now as we speak so what tf is the issue? Can we play the game?
I like the game but the players, jfc if the players could collectively remove the sticks from their rear ends that would be fantastic. Just thinking about it makes me salty because its not like PR is a fast game. Its just a massive time sink so to have to also contend with a toxic community makes it basically unplayable. Just never seen a community treat new players so horribly and expect you to act like you have 500 hours in the game. New players occasionally will need things explained to them or do stupid things, there is no need to get upset by that.
Its not only me either, I've seen other people ask innocent new player questions like "what is our mission" or "what is the keybind for such and such" and the entire squad just jumps on them calling them stupid and stuff. "How do I tell friend from foe" "is that a bad guy" I can keep going. But each time they dont get real answers until AFTER 2-3 minutes of the squad talking shit.
This is obviously my experience over the course of a week or so of attempting the play it but it was very consistently the same experience.

I was pretty much only playing project reality back when the devs said they were gonna start making Squad - I also have loved Squad and all, but kind of fell off. Miss these days, and hell even the old BF2 fonts and everything. When I was in Shacktac we would play PR sometimes and that was some of the most intense gameplay ever and really showed me that the middleground between Arma and Battlefield was a ripe place for new FPS games. Hell Let Loose is actually really popular with console players and that's basically this type of gameplay.. what gets me here is the scale - Project Reality does have some gigantic maps, the scale is more realistic than say Squad or HLL
PR might be fun if they managed to fix crashing problems i've had on my rig for years now. only fixed with complete reinstalls. or maybe if they got more servers up and i wasn't waiting for a spot in HOG all day. just ordered a new pc on my end and will actually be dropping this hell hole for squad, emotes be damned because i saw the emotes and they aren't even bad and fit with the tone of the game. allowing for a tad more expression and are avoidable if you don't really want them.
If Squad persudes to get more into microtransactions and losing its original vision, it will be time for PR. I don't want to support this trend with microtransactions, no to little content and so on. I want an immersive game that is not like the others. Squad always was this game, but the delays of content, still missing content and slowly getting into microtransactions sours my experience.

What's the server population like on PR these days? Last I heard it was like 1 full server at any given time. Played the game for _many_ years and met some of my closest friends for life playing it
I would play this more but PR running on very old engine makes the fps very unstable. Well...atleast we got OHD and Battlebit releasing this year.

They're serious but if you join a squad tell them you're new and want to learn how to do a thing 99% of the time they'll teach you how, just don't join and take a heli with no idea how to fly and kill an entire squad at the start of the game

I mean, I think we all know that the 50v50 chaos of Hell Let Loose is currently the bar for (semi-)tactical shooters. Can't wait until netcode and capacity gets to the point where we can have 500v500 matches across huge battlefields.
Foxhole still up there for playercounts. 150 per map, 850 players across the interconnected servers, huge sprawling fronts that last for days or even weeks... But that's a bit of a time commitment and is top-down as well. HLL for me has been a great balance.
PR is one the defining shooter experiences you can have as someone who enjoys video games, Squad, HLL, Post scriptum, none of them would exist without PR. Hell, Battlefield 3 coulda been an entirely different game if PR didn't show that big squad based shooters were something players wanted. The black sand studios splash as you enter, PR is the best multiplayer shooter pound for pound out there, with some of the best maps EVER, muttrah city ffs
Man, looking at these comments, it really sucks being someone who loves tactical shooters but does NOT want to talk to ROTC kids on a mic. I just want to play my shooter by myself or with friends I know, and that’s it. So I’ve just been stuck with Arma for years now, but thank CHRIST for OHD, because even a small donation based team has the decency to give the game bots so I can still enjoy it by myself. PR also has bots too which can be fun.
I like how this seems to be the year where the "best of the genre" turns out to falter, and people just switch to the other systems.

I think the most authentic experience I had in Squad was playing as the Iraqi's vs the US. Our Squad Leader told us "pick a position and defend it" inside a bunker and as soon as we made contact a kill squad of marines came in through the top of the bunker in between all of us which culminated in two accidental friendly fire incidents (one of which was my fault) and a total squad wipe for no enemy losses. Then our Squad Lead decided to just stay in the base while yelling at us to "push, why aren't you pushing, ignore the sniper," while we kept getting picked off trying to do anything without leadership.
Had a great experience too with a British Squad Leader vs the Russians, but I just find the former one too funny to not be my go to anecdote, even if it really lost its charm towards the 30 minute mark of getting shot at by snipers.

Holy crap, I was just thinking about PRBF2 when staring at these Squad emote event, people should definitely play more PRBF2 since that certain game whose purpose was to be a better PRBF2 is now failing that objective.

I don't understand why people are making SQUAD adding paid emotes out to be such a big deal.
It isn't like they implemented a battle pass. They aren't asking you to pay for content that inherently affects the game, like forcing you to pay for new factions they roll out.
The emotes are strictly cosmetic and they are actual, legitimate hand signals. You even get some for free.

Ever since the Squad emotes ive been looking at PR, and now Squad just feels like a fancy reskin with actually less features than PR. Oh and PR is free, too. Oh well, you hate to see a promising game get obliterated by the greed of the higher ups
really thinking of going back, squad is/was nice. it made many memories, thousands of hours of good play time joy and anger. but its declining, still not bad but its got that tickle in your throat feeling that the new mobile game management is going to do something dumb worse than fairly non intrusive paid emotes.
PR and squad are a game genre of their own, not milsim but not cod/bf but builds tons of stories and thats what makes them good, sucks squad might fall tho

Pr to this day is THE BEST squad based milsim style game fr. It might be old as fuck, it might not have 4k graphics, the game play and functionality is perfect, it runs soo smooth

PR isn't what it use to be. No offence to you but many many content creators have ruined PR, even Squad. They don't show any of the tactical moments, the team play, just the goofy moments :/
holy crap is this still playable? I remember trying project reality some 15 years ago or something but my PC couldn't handle it back then so I stuck to BF2.
I haven't played PR in many years, but I might get back to it after the huge let down from Squad's new devs and their stupid ideas about microtransactions...

I loved playing PR back in the day, but from what I've heard, the remaining server admins of PR are... rather stringent in their enforcement. So I'll pass.

PR got me into Squad way back, but I may go back to PR if OW shits up the game worse than emotes. Glad to see PR is still kicking!

Project Reality is great. If you want to play Squad and don't have a good PC, go all the way to PR! I used to play a few years ago and was really funny.
