  • Well, blackwater tank still have clear water, just have a little tint to it #aquariumfish #fishtank #bettafish
By the way I'm trying out a new editing software, let me know if there's weird edits, thanks!!
Why I made a mistake using soil?
As someone with aquascaping background, aquasoil is very familiar to me. Aquasoil buffers to low pH and suitable for systems with soft water, which I thought that's exactly what blackwater system is. So, instead of using peat I opted to use aquasoil instead, since most aquasoil have tannin and humic acid anyway.
IT TURNS OUT that aquasoil (or this particular brand, I'm not sure) can absorb tannins and humic acid, therefore reducing water tint and preventing me lowering the pH. The soil prefers the pH of 7.
Maybe I'm gonna slowly replace the soil with inert substrate like sand.
Also, BETTA!!! A wild betta appears!

Hi there! Thanks for the video, very nice scape! I love the tree trunk theme, I just built mine version of it in a 85 gal :DD
I think you should fill up the water to the top of the tank, I can see what was in your mind, but the dry part really not give that much, and you betta will appreciate the extra space. It is not even a very big tank, so this space is really valuable for the fish. You can cut some holes into the lid and extend the hardscape to get the feeling, or even add terrestrial plans to give a better filtration and ascetics :3 You can always add more leaf letter to get more tannin, and even prettier with that I think. Add some shrimp and snail, even bettas need companion :3
About the video itself, a tighter cut could rise the quality by classes, 10 or 15 minute in length would be nice! The second one, it is really not necessary, but if the subtitles grouped together in sections (for ex.: at the start, middle and the end) it can be enjoyable.
I whish you luck! Keep up with the great work!

Thank you very much!! 85 gal is massive!!
With the lid on, the top part gets really foggy too so I can't see it much, filling more of the tank seems like a really good option.
about the subtitle, I don't think i understand what do you mean by grouped together in sections...?

@@mapleandcherry ahh sorry for the confusion. I meant by that to add the texts into a small timeframe together, so if someone interested can read all the information, and not searching for it in a 20 min long video, but it is really just my preference, now Im not sure if it is even possible :P
