Thank you for reinforcing what I have done. We had an awful storm over Kansas City just this past weekend and part of this week. I never left my house for 6 days and didn't need a thing. It is important to slowly stockpile. I added to my stockpile over 4 years. $10/week is what I spent for my prepper pantry. Thanks again!
I found myself with a few cans of ravioli that needed to be used up. I wasn't fond of the orangish tomato sauce in them, but washed the sauce off the ravioli, added back red pasta sauce like Prego, topped with Mozzarella cheese and baked. Much better.
As a South Carolinian I agree whole heartedly. Just recently we had the hurricane and now we just got a snow storm. For those in Alaska it may not sound like much, but to us here, it is a much bigger issue
Coupon Saturday at Dollar Tree going to get a couple hams, beans and laundry supplies. Of coarse check out the $1. Isle. My Grandson has a family of four they all had the bronchitis going around. Sick for weeks with no paychecks. It was wonderful being able to take them boxes of food also meat to help them out. Young families have it tough in these times.
I've learnt the fruit cans pop fast so I keep them in a section all on their own, plus the tomatoes. I'm beginning to like having tomato powder for winter bc their nothing better than a fresh tomato from your garden in the summer. Then I dehydrate tomatos slices sprinkled with Italian spices (for pizza's but they go fast.) 😊
I like to have Wild Planet canned Tuna and Bean Salads. These are good additions to a bug-out bag. I found them at Walmart. They are a bit expensive, around five dollars, but a complete meal in a long lasting can.
North Mississippi isn’t Alaska but just these last few days we got over 5 inches of snow, icy roads and still freezing temps. Glad I have a good stockpile of different foods.
Great video! Wonderful suggestions! Due to dental issues I was thrilled to be able to use my DT oatmeal packets for breakfast. I added DT dried bananas and they softened nicely. Best lunch item: instant rice/ bouillon/ chicken pot pie soup. All DT purchases. We had a foot of snow but I had everything handy! What a blessing to be prepared! 💗
You're so very blessed! Smart to prep. Unfortunately, those who were prepped in Los Angeles had them burned 🔥 😕 Diversify location. Keep cash on hand, money in the bank, money in investment. Money in retirement. Diversify.
Recently we have had items missing in every shopping pick up, it’s very frustrating. I can remember the last time I picked up everything I ordered. I’m so glad your videos taught me to prep. Ty AG
thank you 2 years ago I under went surgery and was off work for 3 months. I was so blessed to have a stockpile to pull me through until I was able to return to work.
Alaska Granny, I really appreciate your view of prepping, in that you keep it simple, relative to what your family eats and prep a little at a time. Rice and potatoes help stretch food when needed. Beans are helpful too, for those without picky children. 😅 ❤❤❤
It sounds like our husbands could be related. lol I get aggravated at my husband as well, because he won't eat soup or stews, homemade or store bought. I will save leftovers from meals in the freezer and then end up making a Hodge Podge stew, which I like because they never tastes the same twice. Our son will eat it. My husband is very selective on veggies, beans, and fruit. I like most foods and trying some new things.
I love your channel! You have a wonderful way of talking to us --I call it grace! I've taken a lot of your advice, and cooked a lot of your recipes (my hubby loves them!) Thank you for being real about your bulging fruit can! It can happen to anyone, even the most careful prepper. We got a total of 8 inches of snow with the last 2 storms. Snow never keeps me home. I'm used to it. But I didn't have to go anywhere if I didn't want to, because I have what we need here at home. Our electric stayed on, we didn't get any ice, and there wasn't much blowing & drifting. But I stayed home, bc I could.
I hav most of the basics so i added some wants a case of margaret holmes (MH) vidalias and squash and a case of MH tomatoes ,corn n okra and case MH cabbage, for different flavor soups. Also a few boxes of instant barley. Hav chili with n w/o beans. Oh and i found sw corn and got 2 cases of that. Think i will use that a lot. For refried beans i get Isadora brand maycoba beans pouch. I will use that as mayo on a sandwich. It is so good. Bottom shelf mex aisle walmart. Cheap 1.37 all flavors good. I dont like La Sierra brand tastes like old moldy lime to me. But thats me.
Great video and an important reminder! Having ready-to-eat food in your pantry is essential. Electricity isn’t guaranteed, and the idea of not being able to heat or cook your food isn’t far-fetched. Prepping can be very affordable too! Let's all be prepared going into 2025!
Just found cream of chicken and mushroom combined. Picked up my regular cream of chicken but grabbed a couple of these new ones to try out. They may very well not be a new item, maybe ive just never noticed them before. 🤔
Good reminders to regularly inspect your canned goods. I’ve heard since the pandemic they said there were supply chain issues and quality of cans and packages were less sturdy so more likely to dent and leak. As you said not worth risking eating something unsafe if the cans don’t look right.
With current events here in the USA…….we can no longer pretend that government can or will help in time of a CRISIS….we are on our own, now more then ever what you prepare for is the basis for what help you can and should depend on is yourself. Please get you preps it’s insurance and it’s your life
Buy more of what you actually regularly eat though so that you do not just have cans of food that you just let sit and expire waiting for an emergency.
By all means, I am not wealthy. There are ways of storing extra water. I use a Brita water filter system and fill up empty juice containers and empty gallon vinegar jugs. I label the jugs with a piece of painters tape with the date and an F on it for filtered water. I also have bought cases of water that I keep in my pantry. The water in jugs gets rotated, as we use them for water for the dogs or if I use in my container garden, etc. We use the water bottles for when we are on the go. I have used one bottle of water to wash my hair before, and it's not real short. You just have to learn how to conserve. Sponge baths don't require a lot of water, and if it was SHTF situation, you may not be able to bathe as often.
I recently learned how to "hot water bath" meat. It's considered The Amish way (3 hrs for every meat, beef, chicken, pork) Pork is the only meat that MUST be pre cooked before canning. I've can pint sized jars so I can open one, add a can of fire roasted tomatoes, a small can of tomato sauce, and decide to make half chili and half spaghetti sauce for meals for days. You could put a meal in a freezer zip lock if letting something sit in the fridge for days isn't to your liking. It's just me to feed, so a little can go a long way. I get better nutrional value, because its homemade, to my taste. Yes you can add cooked onion and/or garlic to your canning. If tou have the time, you don't want additives or high sodium, this could be for you. Canned meat lasts for years.
@dalegaa9657 The USA is the only country that pressure cans. The Amish and every where else does hot water bath. The USA does not recommend hot water bathing meat, but it actually is a stronger seal than pressure canning. 3hrs. All meat. Pork must be cooked, beef and chicken can be hot water bathed raw. Dale, does the USA do everything right in your mind? Please, by all means, you pressure can, I'll do it the Amish way.
@dalegaa9657 I've researched and I've done it. You need to research. No one is telling you to not pressure can. No one. How do you think I learned to do this? I was taught.
@@deniselogan2733 Nope. Only pork. All 3 meats must be processed 3 hrs. I'm going by what I was taught and I've had no problems. I would suggest everyone find a person who knows how to do this, watch listen and decide if you're comfortable. If not, don't do it.

Smart Gal! I live in SW Missouri and I was in my house for a while too!

You can buy canned cheese then just pour it over cooked macaroni. You could also add a can of chili to it.
This woman is still a treasure to the prepping community🙌🏻

That’s a great idea, especially for the tomatoes!
I love how you present small ways to build up a stockpile. This channel is wonderful for people who are on a budget.
recently replaced some soups I had eaten this winter

Wow, didn’t know it snows in Mississippi. It's a good idea to be prepared for any weather!
@ it’s snowed last 2 years. We are on the Tennessee border. Between you and some other peppers I am prepared!
Great video! Wonderful suggestions!

I have a just in case backup to feed me and mine.
Well stocked no room for anything

Thank you so much.
I have a few bags with cans for a meal set aside to make sure they are their freshest.
Great ideas. Thanks
I’m glad you liked them!
As always lots of great information thanks God bless you 🙏 and yours 😊❤
You are so welcome.

I got several cases of those hunts sauces for a dollar a piece. We use them all the time.
Thank you for sharing. Very helpful.

Good video, thanks for sharing, YAH bless !
Thanks for watching!
Enjoy your videos
Great advice but my husband wont est soup. Homemade or store brought, veggies, beans or fruit. He is screwed.
May learn to eat more things if he gets hungry enough. I don’t like fish but if push comes to shove I will make myself eat it.

Store what you eat, eat what you store. My sweetheart loved beefaroni, so I stocked up for him.
@@AlaskaGranny he won't eat anything out of a can.
Thank you for keeping us educated on what to keep on hand and why. ❤

One can of chunky soup poured over rice or biscuits makes a great meal for my husband and me.
Or maybe a baked potato
@ maybe cheese rehydrated potatoes and bacon bits

Sounds like it might be a good idea to open cans of fruit, toss them In a baggie and into the freezer. Tomatoes, too.

Mix a can of stew and chili, serve over rice or mashed potatoes. Makes a yummy and filling meal.
Good video girl 👧 ❤
I saw one woman who would dehydrate her canned fruit if she didn't eat them before the expiration date. Then the fruit would last awhile longer.
Buy more of what you actually regularly eat though so that you do not just have cans of food that you just let sit and expire waiting for an emergency.
Unless WEALTHY CANNOT STORE enough WATER for Drink,
FOOD & Bathing , for WEEKS/Months

Ground meat must be precooked before canning
It is not recommended to water-bath meat. I would never trust it done that way. Please research this more for safety's sake me
