Matchbox Challenge #2. Another great box opening video Gary. Very in depth as usual and covers everything in detail. I was amazed to find one that was still sealed in its original cellophane wrapping after all those years. Hopefully this will prompt some viewers into a little challenge of their own by either hunting this kit down online etc or if they've already got it in their stash and forgotten about it, then digging it out to have a nostalgic build of their own. Really looking forward to the build video and I hope you enjoy building it mate. 👍 Oh and yes, I am enjoying this series as well as sourcing these kits for you.
I loved Matchbox 2 and 3 colour kits when I started building them in my native Chile, 48 years ago. Thanks for posting the video. That box and its content must be like opening a time capsule.
I do love the swordfish, looking forward to seeing this kit put together. Coincidentally, there is an excellent article about the only airworthy swordfish in this month's Flypast magazine which talks about the prospect of another swordfish being made airworthy in the next couple of years. Now that would be a sight to behold, 2 string bags flying in formation!
I built the Revell re re but i went mental with it with a fully scratch built interior and extensive work to accurize it . Then Airfix released their excellent kit! If I'd waited a few months i could have saved myself a lot of work. Still enjoyed it though.
I don't mind you not knowing what every part of an aircraft is l watch you building them 😆 what a great aircraft Simon picked for you to do and us to see and when to think this kit is 1970's it's pretty good they just didn't have the technology then and our expectations are higher now but when l was a young boy in the 70s these were great nice to take walk down memory lane 👍
That brought back a few memories! The Matchbox (later Revell) Stringbag was probably the best one in 1/72 for a long time, at least until Airfix released their new one a few years ago. I liked the way Matchbox made biplane assembly much easier, using ways of locking the upper wing in place so you didn't have to use a jig to align them.
Hello mr. Gary. My first kit was a matchbox one. It was a hawker hurricane. With glue out of the tube and it stuck everywhere he should not.also 2pots of color.and a crappy brush.that swordfish gave the bismark what she deserved.with sticky greetings from brandenburg/Germany. Your fellow modellmate.christian
Fantastic, I built one as a kid in the mid to late 70s while visiting our grandparents at the beach (Lucinda Australia). I remember my brother and I had difficulty with the biplane wings, but had a ton of fun. Lots of stringy tube glue as camouflage. 😊
It's a very nice kit considering it's age. Got to be Taranto scheme for me. The famous shallow harrbour torpedo attack that taught the Japanese that it could be done. If we hadn't done that, Pearl Harbour would not have happened. The Swordfish did have a crew of 3: pilot, observer and radio op/gunner. But they could replace the observer with an auxilliary fuel tank
Love the Swordfish! I remember building one of these as a boy. Always seem to be a fair few of these on eBay but I thought it looked pretty good when I did it, let alone when you've given it the treatment (and rigged it to boot!) Will follow along with interest.
Great plane, want to build one now!! How did you know it was an Audi? Saw it out the window or are you a secret petrol head?😁 Another great unboxing. Thanks Gary 👍
Another great video review and a lot of happy 😊 I built that model many years ago ❤ Some great memories coming up on the channel for everyone 👍 Keep up the great work
I missed out on Matchbox kits but they seem to have a lot of people excited by them. Need to find one to try. Not sure why you were worried though, a Mistercraft kit challenge though....
I started the Revell re-issue a few weeks ago, had a lot of trouble getting the upper wing on properly, so it's been consigned to a dark corner of the bench until I can summon up the courage to have another go at it.
For a 70/80 moulding it's better than some you get today. Stringers are horizontal ribs are vertical....I know this because I used to work in the aerospace industry
Another lovely kit from past, well done Simon, I be watching the rigging with great interest, and another great well detialed review, I hope your cough is better.
Lovely! I’m looking forward to this one - especially how you do the rigging. It will be useful for the Airfix one I have in the stash. I made the Frog kit many years ago, when it was re-released by Novo. Nice little kit.

Looking forward to seeing the build, I wish I had a Simon who sent me kits, as a fellow Simon I have to get my own.
Matchbox was one of my favourite kits when I was a young guy, but I never built the Stringbag. Thank you for sharing

Nice! Anything Matchbox was a challenge when I was a kid! Back in early childhood. 😂🎉

Looking forward to seeing this build marra crack on 👍. Regards Gav.
I vaguely remember building the strikemaster...a provest development if I remember correctly?
Yes, developed from the Jet Provost T.5 with the pressurised cockpit. There are rumours of Airfix doing one maybe 2025 or 2026....

I made a Matchbox Swordfish last year, and put it on Frog floats from an old kit.
I missed out on Matchbox kits but they seem to have a lot of people excited by them. Need to find one to try. Not sure why you were worried though, a Mistercraft kit challenge though....
Glen mate, that's not even funny.....!
Very nostalgic, looking forward to seeing this build. 👍🏻🇦🇺
Oh that is awesome, loved the Matchbox kits, still some of my favourites. Look forward to your build of this.
Gary - the radar and rockets version is surely the most anachronistic biplane ever.
I started the Revell re-issue a few weeks ago, had a lot of trouble getting the upper wing on properly, so it's been consigned to a dark corner of the bench until I can summon up the courage to have another go at it.
SOME OF THOSE WING STRUTS YOU WILL BE ABLE TO RIG BEFORE PUTTING ON THE MODEL WHICH WILL EASE THE RIGGING PAIN
Looking forward to the build gary
It could be either a Lewis or vickers K gun.
Really neat. It gave me the feeling of opening a kit when I was a kid. 🙂
Structure terms are 'Formers and Stringers'.
I think only 2 crew if extra fuel tank fitted?
As far as Peter oxley is concerned it's sacrilege to build one of these. But I'm looking forward to it as its a lovely kit!!
I admire Peter ,but a kit needs to be built !
@@snork44 I admire him as well, but I agree it needs to be built!!
I remember getting this for my 11 birthday in 1985 .
The top wing was a pain in the bum .
Nice kit
I think it's Donald duck😂
Vickers k i think for the gun
A pre-weathered decal sheet!
SOME OF THOSE WING STRUTS YOU WILL BE ABLE TO RIG BEFORE PUTTING ON THE MODEL WHICH WILL EASE THE RIGGING PAIN
Good idea!!!
Gorgeous! I have Airfix' more recent kit - I'm looking forward to the build! (Both yours and mine!) 😁

Stringers are horizontal ribs are vertical....I know this because I used to work in the aerospace industry
for a true 70s experience it should be built with all options on model together. Torpedo plus rockets plus ASV radar - why not?
The radar might get in the way of the torpedo...?
@@garys_stuff maybe. but until you try....
What a cracking Matchbox Challenge kit....looking forward to the building video(s) already
Another lovely kit from past, well done Simon, I be watching the rigging with great interest, and another great well detialed review, I hope your cough is better.
Surely the Swordfish had a three man crew?
For the Taranto mission they dropped down to two, but it would have been good to have the 3rd for the RAF version
@@NickAndrewsFaulkner Thanks for that. The other great mission for it was disabling the Bismarck. Well worth the special decals for that mission.

Very rare in a sealed box😮
