I've only really known of Bisquick and Chaz before watching this but I was really impressed by LinkKing's speech and persuasive ability to smoothly and conclusively get everyone to see his point of view, pretty instrumental in leading the conversation for many of these. Uploader was also great at steering the conversations to where they need to go (FE11's "no, we're done with this" made me laugh).

Is this sarcasm? This list looks almost game-for-game what Reddit would make at the time. Even if people have their own personal list it never feels like you can advocate that over the community's. Even if this video you'd hear someone start to hype a game and then the rest get on their case so they'll be like "oh no it's bottom or near bottom tier".
@@Ash_Yu Nope, I was dead serious, and idk where you were looking but I was seeing all kinds of lists back then. I even saw some where they put Rev at number 1 and Thracia at number 2. There truly are a ton of opinions in this fanbase.
I feel echoes was done dirty, but each to their own.
Echoes is hard to play for a multitde of reasons:
1. Extremely low growths
2. Sooooo many map enemies
3. The dungeon crawling segments, they are fun but so repetitive after the second tme
4. The weapon system
But theres also a ton of good things:
1. Characters
2. Use of all characters all the time
3. Music
4. The turnwheel memories

FYI: Shadow Dragon sold more than PoR and RD, so it's definitely not THE reason the series was dying. It's most likely a combination of the sales of FE9 through FE12 that screwed over IS, because none of them sold well (FE9 and 10 are with Thracia as worst selling in the series)

Mmmm gamecube was a flop m8. And RD was a sequel. Shadow Dragon had Marth and Smash recognition meanwhile Ike was just gaining a cult following. So no Shadow dragon and fe12 were the retreatist. All of these game lacked one thing. Aggressive marketing

Is this the FE4 hot takes repository?
1. Chapter 3 is a fantastic map, not just by FE4 standards, but in general.
2. Seliph is less generic than people give him credit for, him living in shadow of Sigurd is the entire point. The contrast between how he views himself and how others view him make him one of the more interesting lords in the series.
3. Travant is better than Arvis.
4. The conversation with ghost Sigurd and Deirdre is one of the highlights of gen 2, second only to Finn reuniting with Altena.
I can agree with all of these (except the last one because I haven't seen it)
Chapter 3 was my favorite chapter by far
Travant is easily my favorite villain in the series. Just an absolute god.
Fe4 is just boring imo, at least gen one. The maps are a slog and they aren’t fun but gen 2 is a lot better overall map design wise
I freaking loved Awakening, so much fun. I do feel like they could of done more with Valm, linked it more to Alm but I thought over all it was fine.
I have more nostalgia for Awakening than for FE7 for some strange reason :D
In a way I agree, since Fe 13, at the time, was "the last game" so they crammed a lot of references and stuff into it. However, on the other hand Alm was of course not as developed at the time. Also, it's not like there wasn't any references to Alm/Celica, and by extension fe 2 (and the at time nonexistent fe 15) since the continent was well named "Valm" and the Mila tree is a thing. There's also some ambiguity to Walhart being related to Alm. Despite popular belief, it's not confirmed. It's even weirder cause Fe 2/15 take place within a year of the Archanea games.

Bisquick: Comic relief. Simple, yet perfect. if he speaks up, it's to complement something or just say what he thinks without justification, or he justifies it by a hularious skit.
These guys are perfect together. We need more of this.
I just want to say that I'm very impressed with the editing. You deliberately isolated some of the chaotic parts to give a spotlight to each person, and story boarded it to give the each opinion equal weight. This is very soothing in a podcast format.

This was so damn interesting, listened to all of it while working on my uni submissions. Personally I would've put Echoes above Awakening I think.... and I'm pretty glad about Sacred Stones in B-Tier bcs it was my first FE game as far as I can remember lmao, was expecting it to be trashed more. I'd love to hear another discussion round, maybe about best Lords/Units or... something?

IMO i'd put both RD and Genealogy on S ,i love both games , the gba games lower and change Conquest for SoV.

I never finished it, but I just started a file last week to see what all the complaints are about
I like the 5 * difficulty modes, i think they were implemented well. Shadow Dragon is a fun but basic Fire Emblem game. I actually think its a C overall though. It gets a soft spot for me because i always wanted to know who Marth was, and Shadow Dragon showed me as a young teen.
You can replay Shadow Dragon soooo many times and use all of the cast. The Story is good. Maps are amazing. Graphicly is bad at first, but you will get used to it and it looks decent after a while. Also you can reclass nearly every Character and you will experience him/her differently. It feels different every time. HOW IS THIS GAME WORSE THEN FE1? WHY IS THIS AT THE SAME LEVEL OF REVELATIONS AND BIRTHRIGHT?
Justin4Fun Thank you because those are pretty much my thoughts on Shadow Dragon. There’s just something about it that’s just plain fun. It doesn’t need to go all out because it’s a classic fun story and it’s why Archanea is one of my favorite series in Fire Emblem
Personally I think three houses should be low A tier, I mean its my personal favourite but thats just because I feel it plays to what I want out of an FE game perfectly with a solid story, amazing characters and a very imbalance vs imbalance aproach to game design especially on maddening, like sure the enemys have ambush spawns and nasty skill combos but you have 2 warp users with 50+mag and 1-4 range oh and Travant also lent you his wyvern squad.Also gambits. I do think its a cut above FE7, I feel like the story is worse in 7, the characters are about on par and the gameplay is lacking in 7, at some poitnt it just becomes a snorefest with watching harken,hawkeye,pent and marcus shred entire batalions while fliers secure objectives. Also I totaly agree with Speedys take on battlesaves and geneologys ehm ´´Gameplay´´, I dont know how these DISGUSTING geneolgy elitists like one known choopy choosi can have the AUDACITY to trash casual mode when FE4 litteraly has what ammounts to b-tech phoenix mode (this is a joke please dont hurt me). I also would have put shadow dragon higher but thats just because it was my first fire emblem and when I was an 8 year old there was just something incredibly magical to me about it, so thats pure nostalgia bias, I still think it could be high C tier. Overall very fun video great job.

Why Path of Radiance is my favorite FE game :
- It is probably the best entry point for all players , due to (early game been easy , mid game been okay , and late game been hard) , and it can set you up to play previous entries (in a serious matter , most people have never touch the "old fe games just cuz it does not have casual" as an option)
- Pretty good cast of characters overall.
- IT HAS THE BLACK KNIGHT , YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THE MEDIEVAL DARTH VADER
- It has everything that a Fire Emblem game would have (except for Gaiden Chapters)
- Ike as the main character : "I fight for my friends"
- Adding to it, Ike does not move the story like others main characters do (Fk you Corrin), he is just a mercenary that was giving a position.
- Ashnard as a the main villain, takes away the "cliche I am an evil guy because I am", and there is a reason behind it (Just like Zephiel)
- It touches topics like racism , slavery , genocide and more.
- Re-introduction of skills, give them more customization , and each class has it's own OP skill to use (Astra , Sol , Luna , Deadeye Aether , etc)
- Bonus exp was introduce here to give boost a unit who needs to catch up
- Classes now promote at lvl 20 if you level up them one more time, and they give you the option to promote them with a Master Seal if you wanna do it earlier.
- Introduce the "Beast" unit in this game as laguz , and other FE games used that idea (Fates , Awakening)
- Weapons forge was introduce in this game
- Finally, Path of Radiance by itself has one of the best FE stories (just pretend Radiant Dawn is a separate game LOL)
Just a heads up, but if anyone is interested in playing POR you should def reccomend they turn animations off and if they're using an emulator to speed up the game, because the Tellius games are pretty slow
Yeah no FE is perfect , I've played this game in all difficulties (except maniac) , and have a lot of chapters I have to play them with no animation , and have to put everything in the max speed. I'd say turn animations on only for bosses (Black Knight , Ashnard , etc). Overall , wish if nintendo released Path of Radiance for the Switch with faster animations and better animations , fixed some awful maps , and have better frame , it would definitely enhance the experience.
I really regret not talking about PoR more in this video. We kinda glossed over it because we all agreed that we thought it was one of the best games in the series without explaining why in depth. Your reasons are definitely on my checklist as well!
@@SpeedyHawk I personally think you guys cover all the positive and strong points of Path of Radiance. But hey , reviewing and giving opinions of all FE games in 2 hours + 40 minutes with others is not an easy task. I think you guys could do like another one of these "conversations" but with having one FE game as a topic, and talk about it in depth. I think it's more fair for every FE game to be analyze in depth rather than just "Story , Characters , Gameplay." But yeah , looking forward if for another podcast :D

You should do that again, maybe talk about 1 game like Awakenings characters (invite some guests) and rank them in a tier list (Perfomance, Personality, Design and stuff like that). Would watch that for sure!

As someone who only played Awakening a little bit and of course Three Houses, I really liked hearing thoughts from y'all on this list.
Whenever Chaz talks about skills in Conquest he always brings up 'Point Blank' which doesn't make any sense - literally the only enemy that ever has it is Takumi (although he doesn't have it in Ch.13) because he's usually the boss and it sopped you from cheesing the boss. Literally no other enemy has it.

That's true. Maybe he confused Point Blank with Counter. In chapter 23 of Conquest, which is like the only chapter with enemy Snipers, the vast majority of them have Counter, and on Lunatic they have Lunge too

@Y'all Mind If I Scream Every single support conversation felt so natural, like you get to know the characters at the same time they get to know each other.
I feel SoV is a fantastic game, but has some of the worst replayability of the series. You really begin to notice how meh the map design is and how besides pitchforks & the villagers, there isn’t much team customisation as SoV is the kind of game where you use pretty much everyone until endgame. When you already know the story and character interactions (the game’s strongest points) the package becomes a lot less appealing.
It got shafted here because of that, since everyone here is at least somewhat of a veteran that has played at least a couple games multiple times so replay value is quite valued.
I find Echoes leagues better than awakening, but I’d probably enjoy a 3rd playthrough of awakening compared to a 3rd SoV playthrough more due to being able to shake things up more compared to previous runs.
I think you are spot on, really, but de cant ignore SoV has post game, unlike other games.
For me, Radiant Dawn, Fire emblem (GBA) and SoV are the best, i haven't played PoR tho.

Okay so, I won't deny that New Mystery of Emblem, hero of light and shadow isn't bad but I have one thing to say about Kris that I think is somehow well done, atleast it made me think that.
spoiler: In the ending, Marth wants us to become an hero of Archanea for all we did for the army, for marth himself, for the world and our character, Kris, says that he doesn't need it and for the people to stay united, they only need one hero which is Marth. But Marth at this point says that even if history doesn't remember us, he will. (atleast in my memories it happened like that)
And as someone who somehow tried to self-insert into our character, I interpreted it as I, the player, won't be remembered in the history of Archanea, like any other fire emblem player who did this game, but Marth who succeeded in saving the world will remember us, the player.
So yeah I might be the only one who felt like that and Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of Emblem are also my first FE (if we forget about FE1 which I played for hours blindly before getting stuck because I played like shit and knew nothing about it) so that plays its part, but somehow it made me feel like the journey was worthwhile and satisfying.
Even though the game has a lot of problems, it will still has a special place in my heart.
TLDR: Kris becomes the Gifca to Marth’s Cainegis

I find it hilarious how Genealogy gen 1 is so good it made gen 2 seem so bad in comparison that makes people genuinely stop playing midway through.
I’ve never even seen a video from any of these guys yet I rly enjoyed this and am instantly subbing to all of them. Rip echoes tho I love that game.
Something I don't really see being touched on is the Emergent Narratives. I find sacred stones such a boring experience because the game itself is solved from the start. Very Seth. Games like fe11 and 12 have something very powerful to them, where you make Gordin an armor knight who saves your ass by holding the line at the rear, and your Catria gets such bad levels you reclass her to mage but then she starts getting magic pretty much every level and OHKO's gharnef. The gameplay lets you tell your own stories, the least in games like SS and Tellius, the most in games like FE11 and 12. That's something that very much impacts my enjoyment of the the game.
Games like FE9/10 or Echoes arent bad because theres no emergent narratives, simply because they already have strong stories that are enjoyable narratives on their own.
The ability to create personalized narratives is itself much more powerful in games where the narratives pre-made for the game are weak, like in fe6, or loose, like in fe11.

Fire Emblem Awakening is my favorite FE game with 3 house being a very close 2nd for me
@Merciless Freak lol wrong, the only ones I haven't played are the first 3. I love the franchise. My 3rd and 4th favorite are Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. If anything I'm closer to being a hardcore fan than a causal.

I played FE3 and just played both books for an older "FE1" esque experience. I'm sure if FE1 and FE2 were around when I was a kid, I would replay them like the Pokemon games
@@acsu96 FE3 is good, but I enjoyed Book 2 more than 1. Book 1 feels tedious, but Book 2 kicks ass lol.
The thing is, it's hard to talk about FE1 when the reference are the two remakes: one is a shortened version of the original and the other changed the mechanics.

This video was super interesting Speedy, a really unique collab! I watched it in segments, it was really really nice to hear you and the other guys express individual opinions on the games. You came to a shared consensus in the end, but i love the FE series for the fact that the games appeal to many different peoples individual tastes, im glad everyones opinions are diverse, if they werent we wouldnt be able to have discussions like this.
It was a long video, but every minute was worth the watch, as everyone contributed so much! My favourite moments are when someone argues in favor of their favourite game or character, like Link with FE4 or Bisquick with Path of Radiance, its nice to see how passionate everyone was.
I was looking forward to this collab Speedy, and it didnt disappoint 🙂 really fun and engaging to listen to you all.

Yeah I think I was a bit too critical on Echoes during this discussion, we recorded this a month ago and I actually went back and played Echoes again. I still don't enjoy the game, but there are alot of aspect I appreciate about it.
At the end of the day for me, I just enjoy Awakening more, but I respect people who love Echoes as well
Shadow Dragon has exactly one good thing going for it: the tiny amount of writing that the game has is extremely good.

There is so much customization, great dlc, and perhaps the hardest map in FE history (Apocrafa dlc) and one of the hardest game modes in gaming history (lunatic+)
This game has provided me with endless hours of entertainment with the characters, customizable options, and high difficulty options to cover all different types of players
Is the story shit? Yes. Does that make this game bad? No. Is the game way too easy? Yes and no. If you wanna complain that it’s too easy play lunatic+ and Apocrafa

The interesting thing about Radiant Dawn is how well it represents the arbitrary nature of reality. Every single RPG is guilty of giving you incrementally more challenging enemies as the story progresses, which is unbelievably convenient if you think about it. But Radiant Dawn has those moments where you have a ridiculous Darth Vader style knight randomly helping you, or your guys are completely unprepared and jumped by much stronger units. Life is often unfair and unbalanced. If you get into a random bar fight then you’re not gonna fight one low leveled chump that you can guaranteed beat so you can level up. You might get jumped by three guys and get destroyed, and that’s reality. I love Radiant Dawn- incredible story telling and building. Also I loved Machiah.
Looking back at this video it's just insane how absolutely nobody was willing to stand up for any of the 3ds library here shit is so sad

chaz is a person who just picks the answer that is least picked just be argumentative and disagreeable and its a mental disorder fe 1 was an experimental game that had many flaws and problems due to the system it was created on therefore it will never be as good as he thinks it is and deep down he knows that but will continue to argue for it just to be different which is why the others can easily argue against him. He makes decent points but this list is short compared to the cons. Fe1 was far ahead of its time in concept execution couldn't support it the way it should have been which is why technology advance and games get better in a trend up. even the makers understood this which is why they continued to find ways to improve the original games flaws. like inventory management, STORY, and gameplay mechanics. fe8 prevents being soft locked fe2 tried new ways to improve inventory management since the creators knew it was shit in the first one. and fe3 or 4 introduced dismounting which is a understandable mechanic. Also Fire emblem is a strategy role-playing game in essence. Chaz just wants to be different and its cliche like every chic flick has a main "quirky" lead and they all become the same movie. Like a Jaegan motive is seen in many games with different names.

Music, character customization, mycastle options, varied difficulties, competitive recruitment/child unit scaling, presentation and fun mechanics are all things id say Conquest has going for it aside from the stellar map designs.

All im saying is that if Gaiden was gotten rid of since Echoes is the ¨same¨, but then Fe1 is kept when Shadow Dragon does literally everything and more, then thats kind of unfair.
They do nothing the same. They have the same maps. That's it. Id argue that save points as a limited resource even alter the map design. Play FE1 a decent ways in or even just look up the calcs on serenes forest.

It's not the perfect game, but it does tick a lot of boxes.
It may not have aged well in comparison to Thracia 776, but it's still a great experience just to learn the lore of Jugdral and the underlying events that happen.
I wish you good luck if you're willing to dive into FE4.
It's a very different FE compared to the others. Alot of mechanics are different compared to other titles for better and for worse

But it'll depend on whether IntSys would remake FE6/7 first, or FE4.
There's absolutely no guarantee that one would be remade over another sooner, despite the slight similarities Genealogy has with Three Houses.
if new shadow dragon was only given a D tier because supposedly it "nearly killed off the franchise" (even though it sold almost as much as the Tellius games COMBINED) then surely Awakening should be much higher for saving the franchise?

Man, this was fantastic to listen to from beginning to end. It made me want to be a part of it, offering my absolutely GARBAGE takes on these games and getting demolished for it, especially as someone who plays exclusively on easy, and prefers entries where I can grind and overlevel my guys.
Only just got around to watching this the whole way through because of busy holidays. Really enjoyed the discussions (I think you got a good spread of elitism without it being overwhelming) and I mostly agree with the overall tier list considering what games I have/haven't played. I'd swap RD with PoR, but I'm biased.
One thing they forgot to mention about fe4. The music. I love the music in that game

having so many of yalls vids pop on my home for a solid year now, ive been getting invested into FE, this video was a gemstone to find. I also seen you mention you had been working on a new one from a comment 3 months ago cant waite to see that one. Thank you for the uncut version absolutely amazing content. honestly i just have fallen in love with the series.
[My experience with FE]: First tried PoR(library checkout, didnt know english well yet but the game caught my eye, definitely wanna buy the game to play on my GC) didnt get far. Got Shadow Dragon(i was stubborn, first full playthrough attempt just default Hard classic, never replayed, hated it). played awakening as a library checkout a handful of times(liked it). Though i didnt like the other 3ds titles at the time(i need to attempt them again). Played ALOT of 3H last year which made me get Engage instantly but i wasnt able to finish engage due to the different vibe. since then ive played New mystery all the way, sacred stones until the split, yet to do my full playthroughs of blinding blade or other gba title. Seeing a handful of yalls videos i really wanna do thraccia 776 and Geneaology of the holy war, but havent had the time to.
as for fates i was never able to tell which i would like more but seems like i should just do conquest lmaoo, anyways thank you for your time!
My favorite is FE7 tbh. I know it has a lot of problems but I genuinely don't care bc I had so much fun with it. I love the characters, the gameplay, and I even like the story lol. It's not perfect obviously. But what game is? All that matters to me is how much fun I have. And that's why FE7 is my favorite.

i think its interesting how a lot of people make broad statements about fe7's story being bad but then when talking about the specifics like world building and characters it's usually agreed upon that they are great and i think assuming that characters & story aren't inherently tied is a weird assumption since character driven stories are indeed a thing, especially if its a story about a character growing.

That's great to hear! I would personally recommend FE7(GBA) (Just called Fire Emblem in NA), Sacred Stones(GBA), or Awakening(3DS)
3 Houses is not a bad place to start, but the 3 I mentioned are very great places to start IMO

For me, the more deeply customizable the characters are and greater the breadth of abilities and classes, the better for me. I loved Awakening for this.

I've said the same thing on Mangs list, I think it's sooo difficult to order the FE games in a list, even if you have a clear order in your mind which elements are the most important ones for you, so I think 3 hours is a reasonable time to discuss this with 5 people.
I can agree with most of this list, I think Path of Radiance is the best overall package, even though the gameplay is average at best (mostly because it's so slow and doesn't have a good difficulty for repeat playthroughs, like Hard is fun on a first playthrough, but too easy on replays, while Maniac is just a mess).
I think it would be fun to make a list for each of the elements you considered (gameplay, map design, story, characters and presentation), my list for that would be:
Gameplay: Conquest, FE12, RD
Map Design: Thracia, Conquest, RD
Story: Genealogy, PoR, Thracia
Characters: Three Houses (the best aspect of the game by far), PoR/RD, Sacred Stones
Presentation is difficult to rate retroactively in my opinion, so I'll just say that some games (Echoes) are better at it than other games on their system (Awakening), and that I hope they reach a higher level of (graphical) quality with the next Switch game
Yeah I think you nailed it. It's still subjective to say which game has better map design, balance, story etc. but it can definitely be agreed on in general easier when the list focuses on one aspect. When you get a bunch of people who have different values making a mega list it becomes almost impossible to see eye to eye on some subjects
