At about 3:20 it is said that the kelpie is often "mistaken for a mixed breed mutt", this is exactly what happened when we went to a local RSPCA dog pound. We thought the dog was wanted was a very handsome, extremely friendly dog and we decided on the spot to have him. We were told he would not get on with any other dogs we might have, his demeanour did not reflect his behaviour. He turned out to be immediately friendly with all people and dogs, never a problem, although the people at the RSPCA said he was a dog of unknown lineage, he was a wonderful boy. About 4 months later a young girl was passing our front gate with an almost identical dog, I called our dog and the girl said our mongrel was in fact a kelpie. I had never heard of the breed called a kelpie, this girl was adamant that our dog was an Australian Kelpie as well!!! I checked on the internet and our new boy had all the traits of a kelpie!! He was only 7 months old but almost immediately took over all the doggy household functions, he learned everything so quickly, there seemed to be nothing he wouldn't take on!!
When he was 9 years old, he suddenly died, it was such a loss for us, everybody loved our Zak and nothing seemed beyond him for learning new stuff, what an amazing dog. He was easily the most intelligent dog we'd ever had, so friendly to all but a good house dog to frighten off unwanted people etc. He was very athletic and obedient, no bad traits, an ideal family pet. Dear old Zak was indeed a wonderful boy, if we weren't both getting a bit old to take on a new dog we would certainly get a new kelpie dog!!

We have had 4 Border Collies over the years, the 1st 2 lasted 10 years and had to be put down due to illness, and the 3rd one lasted to 14 1/2 years. We can't fault Border Collies, they are by far the most intelligent and best companion dogs.
Our current Collie is 1/2 Border & Kelpie and now 1 year old and is one of the best Collies to date, we have never had such a laid back mellow Collie who we can leave to roam the house when we are out for up to a couple of hours without worrying that he'll eat part of the house!
They are a great breed and we highly recommend them.

My dog is a Kelpie X Border Collie. She looks like a black & white Kelpie. She has a bit of downy fluff around her flanks, but overall needs little grooming. She has never had a wash in 8 years and she has no bad dog smell.
I bought her for $200 AUD from a small suburban house when she was 8 months old. She was untrained before I got her. I've been able to train her to a standard. I can't get her to heel, she wants to be in front when walking. She is very independent and will want to be in the middle of the group and try to herd everyone.

The are very similar. High intelligence, high energy, never say die and fun to be with. Sheep work is ideal for these . They can use their brain, agility and stamina. They are both capable of incredible agility and speed, anywhere, it does not worry them. Both of these breeds are of the highest intelligence of an dog and are incredibly active, they are truly magnificent

Get you Facts correct please. There is NO such breed as Australian Kelpie, the breeds name is Kelpie. Some of those you showed are not pure bred Kelpies either. Here's another Fact, the Kelpie has routinely run over 50km a day, the Border cannot, it is not built for that. Kelpies were bred specifically for sheep, it is common for a few to work a flock of hundreds, Borders were bred for smaller flocks, and smaller paddocks.
