@́Tedwards It is true, Big Air has become an X-Games competition, for skateboarders and BMX. For whatever reason rollerblading faded into obscurity, which I never understood, but I'm digressing.
...anyway, many of the tricks Bob does in this Flip video are orders of magnitude more challenging and, frankly crazy, when compared to what people are doing on X-Games in Big Air competition. The skaters in Big Air are absolutely incredible. I don't want to suggest what they do isn't the peak of physical performance. It's also the case that Bob has mastered skating these HUGE ramps in a way no one else has. That's actually still the case. He's one of the greatest skaters to ever live, and probably the best skater ever in this area of skateboarding. He's basically the Rodney Mullen of megaramps.
@@TheRealFaceyNeck also gotta remember at an x games competition they are generally going for something they know they can land, this is a video part that could have been filmed over multiple years...Bob is undoubtedly the best, but for this he also has the luxury of being able to try something 10/20/30 times until he lands it...they dont.

i know the whole part is beyond nuts but that ollie to fakie was just too much for me. that is the trick that gets me every time. he goes up so high he basically stalls mid air and the laws of gravity return.

My dad is 48 years old and only somewhat familiar with skateboarding but he will tell you without hesitation that Bob is his favorite skater and that this is his favorite video part.
I literally cry everytime I watch this part. As a skater and brazilian, it makes me so emotional. Great job again Bob, you're my favorite of all time!

I had mad respect for Nigel working up the courage to drop in. Watching this video and finding out what Nigel dropped in on is the landing ramp of a skateboard rocket launcher blew my mind! To top it all off, Bob seems like the coolest, chillest, and nicest person you could ever hope to meet and underneath he is... well you just saw the video.

It'd be wonderful if a helicopter expert somehow finds this thread and explains the skill needed to fly like that, or links to somewhere that explains it. I know very little about helicopters, but my intuition tells me that what this dude was doing in the helicopter is plausibly on the level of what Burnquist is doing on his skateboard.
It helps a lot that the chopper was smaller.
@@TheRealFaceyNeck Im most of the way to a private helicopter license, so far from expert but I have some experience. Most people would be shocked at how easily maneuverable small helicopters like that are. Look up videos of helicopter cattle herding, you will see dudes literally whipping the tails just past the cattle and darting all over the place.
Thats not to take away from how difficult it is to do things like that. I wouldnt say its on the level of a top of their craft pro, but its certainly something you need a lot of experience and nerves to do. It takes an average student 10 hours just to learn how to hover, meaning just hovering in ground effect without losing it and dying. Takes a hell of a lot more to be truly stable, especially with the center of gravity changes a skateboarder hopping on and off mid flight.

Watching this makes me realize I’m not doing enough with my life. The ending was incredible. After he grabbed onto the helicopter and almost slipped off as it pulled away and got high above the ramp- holy fuck. He could have died there.

Bob is the reason I started skateboarding, I used to inline when I was a kid I had a old vhs tape of the xgames. He was sick as a dog and could barely stand but he tried his run anyways, he couldn't land anything without eating shit until his last run in which everything was perfectly bolts like he had been given a winning run from god himself. Seeing him win and try so hard for that xgames made me truely appreciate skateboarding!

You best tricks in this part are the helicopter boardslide and helicopter 720 lol. Also the balls to hang on the helicopter until it got up to proper jumping height are massive! Legend!
