The drums absolutely make this. It's surreal hearing Zach Hill playing over himself while Stefan yells. Such a different sound than the studio record g.
He plays absolutely impeccably perfectly in time. He just doesn't play the basic, base beats that drummers typically play to help keep time. His internal sense of rhythm is so spot on that he only plays ornaments and trills and fills _around_ the core beat, but can come back in on the beat at any time he wants. Maybe once in this whole video he loses time and even then he might just be playing a microbeat out on purpose. Cos that's just his style.

saw them last night at the sound table in atlanta. their setup was the same, no flatlander, no cymbals. wasn't expecting that but still a fantastic show. the backing track isn't as noticeable when it's live because it meshes with his vocals pretty well - it's not your typical "yell half the words over your own song" thing you get at a lot of rap shows. still wondering why they're doing this set up for this tour though.

I'm going all the way down to London in two weeks to see them, from Scotland. I've heard other reviews from this tour that have said it was incredible. Surely the sound issues could have just been from the venue?
Re: miming and drumming: Zach's signature style is to stray away from core beats and just playfully go mad around them. It's meant to be loose. And also the semi-miming is apparently on purpose: so that the audience get both the track's vocals _and_ Ride's live power.

when I saw them live not long after this they only had the instrumentals prerecorded so I guess they didn't like it either
a2b2 (google it) is Flatlander's website. A month ago Flatlander redesigned it to look like a profile page on a goth dating site. It's sinced changed multiple times to other weird shit. "add to shitlist" was an option on the profile page (presumably a "block user" option) and when you clicked it shit got weird
