A great lecture by a brilliant, and humble, legal giant. If you’re an attorney, a law student, or even a lay person fascinated by the law and litigation-I cannot emphasize enough how powerful this mans books and practices are. He provides structure that integrate the attorney into every critical facet of a matter and this allows for connecting with all the key players and presenting all the key information. I just can’t say thank you enough.
This was very inspiring, thank you :) I am very introverted and always wanted to do law but went towards psychology because of my social awkwardness. However I am getting so much better! Law is what I truly want to do! I won’t give up 💕
Ok so I want to be this guy when I grow up. I just graduated college. I’m pretty sure I know step one, which is apply to law school. My question is, which law schools should I apply to? What should focus on when I’m there? Internships? Extracurricular? Specific classes?
I looked into becoming a trial lawyer (mature age) in 2010. What put me off is the thought of spending so much time inside in a courtroom and having to associate with other lawyers of whom there are so many who are detestable, money focused and have no soul. On the other hand there are lawyers who are decent human beings. Jerry Spence is one, though I have never met him. I do conduct my own court cases on occasion. I'm in an administrative court for contested hearing in two days time (my application in a civil matter Jan 2024) Even been in the High Court UK where the judges I found were very helpful and protective of self represented litigants. Having said that, this presenter does present a persuasive argument in favour of trial law. I could never be a prosecutor. They seem to ignore their primary role to 'ensure justice is served' instead focused on winning using underhanded unethical tactics to achieve this.
If you are pro se, you’ve got to learn to lose. The pro se must not only fight the opposing attorney which is tolerable, but too often the pro se must fight the judge too, which is intolerable. I’m speaking from successfully getting an acquittal in a jury trial, defending others in administrative proceedings, experience as a cop investigating criminal cases and testifying, and reading law for 50 years. I have seen good prosecutors and good judges, and corrupt judges and corrupt prosecutors too.
Being a civil trial lawyer can be extremely stressful. It will age you quicker if your not the right personality for it and it will make you unhappy. This presentation became more of a liberal pitch against corporations. None of the good aspects of corporations are presented. Corporations are made up of people with moral values and we see those morals pushed on the people with the modern woke agenda.
