+Edgar “Guano” Fisher Good to hear you got one in. The ocean swell has been tough this year, not enough long calm periods to link together a multiple day trip, just a few overnight trips for me. I plan to get back to Alaska next summer as there's so much sheltered coastline to choose from. I'd love to see video of your trip.

This is so amazing! I wish I could do an Alaska adventure sometime...I like that you take your time explaining why diffrent things could get troublesome, like the water rise in the lake. You learn alot about nature and what to think of watching your videos...Keep doing them!
I've learned a lot from getting feedback from these comments. I think I could do and even better job of explaining all the planning and daily decision making that goes on while I'm out there on a trip like this. It's the stuff we all deal with and think about; when to eat, where to sleep, what to leave behind, should I make a fire or not, the list goes on and on. When I do another trip I'll focus on these things a lot more. Thanks for watching and giving me feedback.
thanks for the reply. i was doing hard shell river kyak back in the mid nineties for brown trout they would spin me around in the boat people were looking at me like i was crazy now its the norm. i did a eskimo roll with my rod in my mouth one time on flat water . you would have laughed. they need one that that has a flat poly board up front for cutting fish and bait. rock on

It was really cool that you found the cabin. Was you able to build a fire inside for some light and heat? You are also right about people. I didn’t know if it’s all but some of the people that I know or have met that have money act like that. Like if you aren’t helping get what they want they don’t have the time of day for ya.

So are there just random public cabins in Alaska? This seems like a pretty nice set up to just be sitting on the beach of a remote lake like this. This makes me want to travel Alaska that much more!!
Joe Moore There are a few old hunters cabins around left over from the days before this area was taken under the parks system. The best cabins are those maintained by the NPS and those rent for 25 to 45 dollars per day. Getting there is the expensive part.

My salmon and trout rod on that trip was a Shimano Clarus 9'0". I've been using them for years. They might not be as sensitive as some others but they are affordable compared to most and they've been great about warranty issues thru the shop I bought it. I think I've broken that one 2 times and they've replaced it for about $10 in shipping. They stopped that replacement program now, so next time I smash it or break the tip off I'll have to replace it myself. Still no regrets, I've got my money out of that rod.
It sort of looks like a boat, but that part of the upper river was full of logs. I don't think many boats have ever made it up that river and there are no roads into that lake.
I can't imagine kayaking and camping by myself in Alaska. I thought I was being adventurous doing it in Wisconsin and Illinois. The most wildlife I ever seen so far is a bald eagle a coyote and a snake. I'm still a novice. My hope is to one day take an Alaskan trip. Kudos to you for living the dream though. Your vid is definitely inspirational. I'm definitely subscribing to your channel. Looking forward to your next adventure!
+Pat Donohue It took decades of experiences to build up to a trip like that. Little trips and learning from each mistake along the way is what it takes. I couldn't imagine jumping into a trip like this without dozens and dozens of smaller trips to prepare. At this point I want to keep going, keep learning, but age is sneaking up on me. That said, another trip to remote Alaska is in the planning stages for me. Thanks for watching.

your trip kicks ass who wants to be pampered. Your in your bubble i can tell good desicion making. aren,t you scared about bears with tent on ground? i have a canoe and dog for early warning and a 10 mm glock. id string fishing line and jingle bells around my tent.
+Benjamin Gerrie I went light and rolled the dice. I was up in SE Alaska for 2 weeks the year before and didn't even see a bear. On that trip I'd see 15+ some days. Yeah, if they wanted to get me they would have done it easily, but that's not really what black bears are known for.
Clothing is key. Depends on the weather what you bring, but take only the best if you can and test it all before you go. Staying dry and comfortable in any situation keeps your attitude up, that means you're able to concentrate on all the survival task at hand. Best of luck!
David Hunt I beat that halibut down to kill it fast. A live halibut, even a small one, is very dangerous in a small kayak. Even with multiple hits from my club it kicked around for another 15 minutes, they are very hard to kill. Its delicious meat fueled me for the final 2 days of my trip.

Thoroughly enjoyed this video mate, one of the best outdoors video i’ve seen so far. Beautiful scenery and like your look at things. Would deffinently not mind seeing more of the stuff in your region, been thinking of staying in Alaska for a while just need the right place though.
Alaska is beautiful country, but it's a tough place to scratch out a life most of the year. It's worth keeping it on your list of places to visit (at least) before you check out. Best of luck.

other than the rain and disaster, seems like a good trip on a kayak, not many videos like this. usualy they just talk and talk.
