There is an exception, some people love to teach but not perform in public. I had a guitar teacher who really was a good teacher but he was to shy to go on stage. I think it also depends on the student. I really enjoy playing guitar, piano and now also violin but I do not want to perform, I play pure for my self. I even record things but I have no interest in doing something with that. I just like doing the process, playing the different parts, mix it etc. If my teacher wanted to drill me into a pro and playing perfect, when I was a kid I probably would have stopped playing, but after 40 years I still play guitar every day, I'm not a great player but I still have fun. I looked for a violin teacher local, that is no fun, 120 euro/0.5 hour for an adult. That was 4 times the price of guitar lessons in the same school
Hello Joel. I have two quick questions. 1. How much do y'all charge for over the net violin lessons and 2. What kind of violin cleaner and polish do y'all use and how much is it? I'm asking you, because I bought my violin set from y'all. Thank you so much! Have a great day! Cathie Smith 🦋🎻
Hi Cathie. Thanks for the questions! 1. - Online violin lessons are $27 for 30 minutes, or $55 for an hour, but we have some other time lengths and instrument options as well. If you call our shop, we can give you all the details and help you find an instructor and lesson schedule that works for you. 2. - We usually use the Kolstein cleaner and polish. While we sell other polishes as well, the Kolstein kit seems to do the best job of both cleaning and then polishing. The complete Kolstein kit is $38.99 on our website (with free shipping in October!), and has enough in it to last most players many years. We look forward to hearing from you!
Is it worth while to try online lessons for children? I’ve been trying to find a local teacher for my 1st grader. I’ve only been looking for about a week so I haven’t given up yet, but either everyone has all the students they can handle or they aren’t returning my call (so I guess they aren’t taking anymore students).
Well, I'd certainly try and see how it works out if you don't have a lot of options right now. You could try online lessons until a spot opens up with a local teacher. You just have to get on their waiting list. kennedyviolins.com/pages/lessons/#violin
Unfortunately, there are many teachers who have their own studio who are quite incompetent. That is why I mentioned teachers "who have large studios" at the end of the video. Yes, it's true that if they have their own studio, there is a much better chance that they have experienced success as instructors. However, it's not always true. That's why it's so important to look at the quality of their students and their professional background. 😉
I also suggest Wohlfahrt.
It's good to memorize fingering and to drill bow tech.

You didn't mention string teachers who only teach in a local music school rather than having their own studio.
