That audience was being coached to laugh.
They all do this now, instead of canned laughter, they have a laugh brigade of about 40 people in the audience who are prompted to laugh when cued. Sometimes, when it's truly funny, the rest of the audience laughs too.
@@soundshaper Thanks. I'm one of those people who have to be coached. Back when that show 'The Office' was on, I never heard the canned laughter, so I couldn't tell if something was funny or not. It seemed kind of strange not to have laugh track.

You can enable live caption on an android phone. Press up on the volume button. There is the volume slider, a note for mute and some lines which when pressed will bring up other options. Under that is a square with some horizontal lines and a diagonal line through it. Press the square, the diagonal line will disappear and live caption will be enabled. Press it again, the diagonal line will reappear and live caption will be disabled.
