It's a blessing we can listen to this "old" music at present noisy times. And thanks to all the people who study and play it for us!
Yo diría "música nostálgica"
No 10 days "Festifal Old Music" in Utrecht this year. Terrible!
But it's wonderfull to hear the birds singing outside. Back to nature.
Thanks to "Corona"!
Well....you nailed it « present noisy times ». Bien vu! ✌️
@@metaoskam7461 That would be "covid" Corona is a Mexican beer or the bright area seen as a ring around the sun. Stay healthy.
@@sangfroid4376 COVID is the disease caused by the virus, not the virus itself. It got its name from the same place as the Mexican beer and the Swedish currency and aura of plasma that surrounds stars, it just means crown, named for the crown-like spikes on the surface of the virus.
54:00-55:15 (I’m guessing. Thereabouts). STUNNING The best Theorbo/Lute playing I’ve EVER HEARD.
I just posted a comment about this exact section. It really is beautiful. Amazing finger work.
If you want to hear a gorgeous piece which sounds strikingly similar to this (I'm not sure if Visée borrowed from Matteis or vice versa), YT search:
Nicola Matteis Hélène Schmitt Diverse Bizarrie (the title is actually much longer but that should pull up the video)
Ms. Schmitt happens to be my favorite violinist. And Matteis is a criminally under-known composer. Thank me later ;)
@@AnHebrewChild Pretty sure Chambonnières paraphrased that exact same bit for one of his harpsichord pieces in a gigue
G minor Chaconne !
This is the tag that i was searching for ! Indeed is the best part of the composition!
I love the theorbo. It sounds softer than the lute and yet different from the modern guitar. This is the most dream-like music I've ever heard in my life.
BEAUTIFUL WHAT YOU SAID THANK YOU AND I AGREE
The father of an old friend of mine used to be a lute tuner. When we sat in the living room, playing games, he'd always sit back in the kitchen playing calming lute music. It is a sweet memory which I am very fond of.
Aww, that’s a really great memory. ☺️❤️
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS WONDERFUL MEMORY
@Daniel W. Bridge He owned a shop where he sold guitars, lutes, ukeleles and so on. He´d take the lutes home and play some tunes on them while tuning them
How utterly quaint this salutation, Rebita Greenita!
A BEAUTIFULLY Miss Placed message! Congratualtions, "Reba Green" and "Mars" hehehehe!
I don't know how many times I have listened to this recording. So astoundingly pretty. This is also my present favourite background listening when I write. Thanks again for uploading such magic.

@@eliseereclus3475 Jean Racine lui faisait la lecture le soir. Quelle époque!
Actually, the subject of the painting is no mere anonymous "lutenist", but the Czech noble, Count Johann Adam von Questenberg
, who served the Hapsburg court in Austria. He was very interested in maintaining and projecting his profile of refined education and culture, such as his love of music and architecture. In the background of this portrait is an image of his castle, Jaroměřice, which was apparently still being constructed at the time this portrait was painted. Kupecký (a Czech) was a very famous portrait painter during this time and painted many portraits of nobles, rich merchants, clergy, and other VIPs.

Oh, Robert de Visée was a contemporary of Kupecký and von Questenberg.
He's got that Bohemian look.
Thanks for adding interesting historical information.
Fine playing indeed of one of the true greats of the lute and guitar composition. And de Visée's settings of François Couperin' ('Les Silvains' and 'Les Bergeries' (last two pieces)) are breathtaking. And thanks to Jose for wonderful performances too 🙂
How many dear souls do I have to thank for bringing solace to my heart through listening here?
Can we liken these exquisite pieces to something like Balm of Gilead; or to the fragrance of narcissus on a spring breeze?
Healing, gentle notes within sublime melodies you uploaded, Ria.

So enjoyable to listen to Robert De Visée. The last piece (at 1:03'.35") is breathtaking in its simplicity and abandonment. Marvelous interpretation by J.-M. Moreno.

so relaxing, such beautiful music.
Beautifull! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for having shared this with us, Dear. Mrs. Brezova!
You are very welcme, dear Brenda!
It is a blessing that we can hear the music of composers unknown to us through this medium. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than going to amazon or that apple store and buying an album only to decide that you don't like it. I've also been able to rediscover performers and performances that I loved on vinyl which are no longer available through CDs, e.g., Igor Kipnis playing Poglietti or Scott Ross playing Bach or performances on unusual instruments such as those used in renaissance, baroque and other classical music genres. I had the enormous privilege and pleasure of visiting the musical instrument museum while visiting a friend in Leipzig, Germany (I got to mess about on a clavichord they have that's open to the public to play!). This is wonderful! Thank you for posting!
Scott Ross playing Scarlatti too :]
très belle musique ...très belle interprétation

Thank you. Wonderful. Appears De Visee was born a wood-goat. Talented.
DC S Ah, yes. So he was driven (wood) for his talent, but not taken by ambitions (goat)... tending to be simply, purely authentic & sweetly true to his honest pursuit of the art?
Thank you for your elucidating comment, very enjoyable to know this fact :)
Precioso.

José Miguel Moreno excels! He gives the most real voice to the music of old masters!
Such a subtle voice!
We laresy knew the delicate expression of the French baroque harpsichord through Couperin. We are rediscoveing the same expression in the viola di gama through Marais, Sainte Colombe, Forqueray (and again Couperin). here we ahe excellent exmaples on the Theorbe, more intense than the lute. This intimate sensitivity was present in all the French baroque music, usually considered as more solemn to claim the Glory of the King Louis XIV.
Thank you for this upload. I have looked in vain for a recording using a theorbo in D. Other recordings are with a theorbo in A, which, of course, gives a much "darker" sound. I like this!

Really great music all thru and the chaconne (passacaille?) in the C major suite is a masterpiece among masterpieces.
Reminds me of Fado music from Portugal, however De Visée's sound is the quintessence of Melancholic music, it just transcends your sorrow.
Fado?
Moreno is Sublime. Visee is great for background music...
Wouldn't it be great to be some aristocrat and have this meandering through the halls of your chateau?
Tres relaxant
Can you hear the overtones of Concierto de Aranjuez in this first piece? Time flows back and forth!
