Bruno Mars has probably the most feminine male voice in the industry. I bet he could change his timbre to sound like a female if he really wanted to. Tone can be altered. Take Mitch Grassi for an example. His voice is lower than Bruno Mars, but he sings in a very forward placement and uses falsetto alot so people think he has a more feminine voice at core. The placement and engagements of different formants is very important when it comes to timbre.
His technique got better in just a couple of years; he never had any proper vocal training before but he's really good now, got a lot more power on his upper and lower register and more soul to it so I think he hired a vocal coach to help him out, which is good for him, and the guy is a hard-worker.

Bruno has 2 octaves to sing without much effort, like everybody, in his case it's C3 to C5. Some baritone try to sing in his range, it doesn't work. Because the same way Bruno can't sing a G2, the baritone will not be able to sing a B4 so easy as Bruno. He is good because he doesn't try to sing out of his vocal range.
not "everybody". Vocal range differs from person to person. There are people who can only sing 1 1/2 octaves without much effort, and there are singers who can sing 3 or more octaves without much effort
He proved that he can still belt without strain. There are other notes that are better than the ones here. He still can sing better than most singers in his generation. If you think he's disappointing, then that is left up to an opinion. He is sure not a disappointment to this dying music industry with talentless scabs. As I said before, smoking is the thing that is causing him to strain. His execution is not even that bad. People seem to make little things into big things...
I'm not guessing, I'm stating physiological truth... It's physically impossible for even a female to sing anything above F#4 without mixing. In the case of those like Bruno who have really high tessituras, they can access more of their mixed range without actually having a very good technique.
The reality is what you define as mix, as a coach everything is a mix as the ct muscle and the ta muscle are working but what you perceive to hear and feel are very different to what is actually happening
If that’s how you’re defining mix, then every note is technically a mix. You use a little bit of head voice and chest voice in virtually all notes, otherwise they sound pitchy and muted. It seems silly to define mix so loosely, but then again I don’t see a point in holding people’s chest and head registers as different instruments where you only care about 1, so maybe we agree on that.
Hmm I'm not really sure. How do you define it? For example thus guy here: the sustained Bb4 is definitely sth I'd call chest voice... the C5 afterwards is clearly mix, and then he switches to head voice hmm th-cam.com/video/8k1AHMxq-0g/w-d-xo.htmlm43s
Yes that's true, but sometimes he sings with a neutral and relaxed larynx. He doesn't too whiny. Chris Brown is the one with the whiny and irritating voice. He also need electronic enhancement to sing live, Bruno doesn't need that. Chris Brown is the one that's super shrill when he goes into the 5th octave.
yes, but the video also contained additional notes that I want you to help me identify. that's why before you reached the part "Belted of Falsetto?" I've numbered the tracks that I wish you to identify. ^_^
One of few males in pop music with a solid mixed register. Truly underrated. Other than Steven Tyler, Stevie Wonder, Freddie, Adam Lambert...you don't hear it too often.
I really can't hear the A2, I hear a C3 which makes me feel relieved bout his range...but I really didn't hear A2, the notes are C4 C4 A3 A3 F#3 F#3 A3 C3 C3....or smth
I've put the link below. There's a bit of a story behind it: It's 12 yrs ago and Bruno w/ Phil and Phred are going from radio show to radio show promoting Bruno's first album. The DJ hosts hear the guys doing their sound checks off air. So later, while the on-air chit chat is going on, and Bruno and the guys have just sung "Lazy Song", one host asks them if they wouldn't mind singing their sound check "oldie" song on air because it was soooo good. The song was "More Today Than Yesterday", and original artists were "Spiral Staircase" from 1969. So here's the clip of them singing this unscheduled request: th-cam.com/video/SlxCfBjxGyQ/w-d-xo.html
You use mixed voice whether you have training or not... Training hones your mix, it doesn't create it. And again, it's not possible to hit notes like a G#4 in complete chest voice. There is at least a little bit of head resonance. It might be a chesty sound, but it is not full chest voice. "Chest voice" and "mixed voice" are often used interchangeably, but they're technically different things.
You're absolutely right dude. I just have a bad day, and i'm not smart as you to face him, i just cant tolerate his statement about another singer. Make me wanna vomit. But glad there's still people like you ;)
I don’t know if I’m a baritone My range is D#2 to F#4 in chest voice, my head voice goes comfortably up to C6 (then I have like another bridge) and I move on to a C#7 without issues, I have a very very light timbre (it’s quite feminine though) so, I’m in a doubt, maybe I’m a tenor that has to improve their upper range or a baritone with a very light tone, it’s weird. If someone can tell me where I’m in I would be grateful haha, my singing teacher says that I’m a baritone and a tenor, like a mixture. It’s really confusing
I’m pretty sure I’m a tenor. My vocal rang chest voice wise is about E2-G#4 reliably. Sometimes I can reach up to C5 I just need to loosen up on high notes.
I wouldn't even say that he's a disappointment vocally or that he has poor use. His technique is not very bad and he can sing very well in tune, especially live. I can say that there is more room for improvement, but Bruno is a great talent and I look up to him as a singer and overall musician. Chris Brown is the one with the poor vocal talent and it is pretty evident live. Bruno smokes and that is the thing that causes him to strain.
Can u tell what is my voice classification I don't know if I'm a tenor or baritone I have a whistle register but I find hard to use it to a song but this is my vocal range A2- Eb5 - G#5 - C7
I made the mistake of starting smoking over a decade over. I'm in the process of quitting, but it took an octave and a half (roughly) off my voice. Prior, I could hit almost any note I wanted. Now, I call it a high alto.
I have the same vocal range, similar tone but different technique more resonance the A4-C#5 I don't strain. I don't have anu idea what type of voice I have haha.
+Gabriel Castro I wouldn't call counter tenor a voice type, unless you are castrated or have a legit condition that makes your voice not go through puberty.
I hit every note easily whilst trying to be quiet. I have a feeling that this is innaccurate because I have done various tests on my range and haven't hit a g5.....
Most Tenors can at least hit a G4 in chest voice. My voice teacher (who is a baritone by the way) can hit G#4 in chest voice. I can hit A4 in chest voice, but I can't sustain it. And Bruno Mars isn't using mixed cause he's never had voice training. Pretty impressive for a man to hit F5 in Chest voice (in the song Gorilla)
Yup. By purpose or not, for me his voice still dope. Many tenor can reach his range without strain, but still, it wont hit max potential of his song if it doesn't strain. Voice isn't like wee wee. No matter how big your voice is, if it sounds crap, that's still crap for me.
I'm a male & my range starts at c5 and also does my belts & they end at bb5 & my falsatto starts at c5 also & ends at c6 im 19 & sing very light & high wit lil weight in lowers what is my vocal type?
"whatever the reason for the straining, technique, placement, smoking, drinking... I dont care its an excuse it doesnt change the fact that he strains" So you are saying that drinking, smoking, or doing drugs doesn't matter and that it doesn't effect the voice, it's just an excuse. Well those things are legitimate reasons of why singers strain in the first place because of the harm that smoking does period. To you he disappoints, that's the difference. An opinion, not a fact.
He dont sounds like a countertenor he sound like a light lyric tenor and he use much his head voice, certainly he have a great control of his voice like michael jackson or freedy mercury, i am a tenor but i will never reach above a D5 with my mix voice like him

some may a call the A5 mix, some may call it falsetto, since falsetto is technically unsupported, id call it very thin head voice either way the A5 sounds about at the top of his range.......and about take the long way home, I think his voice has changed since then. theres no way he can do that now unless he has a whistle register on top......he might have a Bb5 but that would be it, as far as headvoice is concerned. hahah. and yes in some renditions of when i was your man, he shoots up to E5 in full mixed-headvoice. ive actually heard him go to e5 again in billionaire at "Rock In Rio".

He sings B4 like nothing 4:26 and then I'm there belting A# with strain(without strain I can hit A4)
I love Bruno Mars..!!!
He`s a light lyric tenor aka leggero tenor. The highest type of tenor. Counter tenor is a different catagory.
I think he gonna hit F5 live so much better than the recordin' studio !
His highest live note is B5(in falsetto of course, however he can comfortably hit A5# in head voice)
Oh my god! I love bruno mars
Yeah but his vocal range is trash 😂
He proved that he can still belt without strain. There are other notes that are better than the ones here. He still can sing better than most singers in his generation. If you think he's disappointing, then that is left up to an opinion. He is sure not a disappointment to this dying music industry with talentless scabs. As I said before, smoking is the thing that is causing him to strain. His execution is not even that bad. People seem to make little things into big things...
whoop whoop :D. Somebody needs to do a Monica & Brandy "It All Belongs To Me" vocal showcase studio video too.
I'm not guessing, I'm stating physiological truth... It's physically impossible for even a female to sing anything above F#4 without mixing. In the case of those like Bruno who have really high tessituras, they can access more of their mixed range without actually having a very good technique.
That’s not true I can reach higher than that without mixing
For example thus guy here: the sustained Bb4 is definitely sth I'd call chest voice... the C5 afterwards is clearly mix, and then he switches to head voice hmm
th-cam.com/video/8k1AHMxq-0g/w-d-xo.htmlm43s
He's actually mixing.
This was after the video was made but bruno’s highest note is Eb6
Anyone singing chest above an F#4 is using mixed voice.
HNY 2020! Happy to see you here, how’s your life goin.
Great! 😊 You can pitch notes! 😊❤ And now learn what support is
AImposterA it’s going good sorry didn’t see you responded
JasminGardenia Uhm don’t know where the unnecessary sarcasm is coming from. You good girl? Don’t worry, I know what support is.
@@KitsuneMale Really? So what is it?
0:31 where i can find this video? or the name of the song please
When I was like 12 I could reach to a D5!!!! (Because of grenade) wow!!!! Now I can barely reach a C5😢
He's definitely not a countertenor by any stretch of the imagination. He sounds like a light lyric tenor, but am not sure.
You're absolutely right dude.
I just have a bad day, and i'm not smart as you to face him, i just cant tolerate his statement about another singer. Make me wanna vomit.
But glad there's still people like you ;)
he is a lyric tenor.
he sounds like a light tenor (leggiero tenor) to me, but I guess you can call him a counter-tenor as well.
He recently started E cigs! He's trying to quit!
i hv a range voice of f#2-e5 ?what type of voice am ?im a male ..
Gordon Mark Lyric Baritone
+Dimas Bagaskara im 17 btw..what can i do to be a tenor?
Gordon Mark That's already a good range. U are both Bass and Tenor. It depends on how is your training
+Dimas Bagaskara sometimes i can go to f5 and g5 but it depends
Gordon Mark well done ! that's nice. you have to keep training !
He isn't a countertenor,but a high tenor of course
Great video!
I wish I was a tenor, I'm a baritone my vocal range is D2-F#4-Eb6
me too lol my range is C2-Bb4-D6.. I could reach E6 but that's pushing it
Jimmy Chips don't be sad , you guys can hit Low notes , it doesn't matter how high you sing, but how good you sing
peace here haha yaa I know I’ve been singing for like 3-4 yrs without a professional coach, and I’m decent 😅
Sometimes I can reach up to C5 I just need to loosen up on high notes.
hola como se llaman las canciones que el canta como tipo rock justamente en las notas C#5 y la RADIO BBC por favor
Wow, I thought he wan't able to hit an A2.
Can u tell what is my voice classification I don't know if I'm a tenor or baritone I have a whistle register but I find hard to use it to a song but this is my vocal range
A2- Eb5 - G#5 - C7
You're probably a tenor 😊
I made the mistake of starting smoking over a decade over. I'm in the process of quitting, but it took an octave and a half (roughly) off my voice. Prior, I could hit almost any note I wanted. Now, I call it a high alto.
I have the same vocal range, similar tone but different technique more resonance the A4-C#5 I don't strain. I don't have anu idea what type of voice I have haha.
You're welcome, he needs to drop that sophomore album, I'm anticipating :D
the second template of siti nurhaliza's all your love the one with the already identified two F5s. ^_^
voice type, counter tenor? LOL where's that non falsetto F5?
+Gabriel Castro I wouldn't call counter tenor a voice type, unless you are castrated or have a legit condition that makes your voice not go through puberty.
in the prince tribute hit a C6
A2-E5-C6 actually live
ok
he is a high tenor
tenor -9999
"Vocal type : coutertenor" by the way my name is Mickael Jackson
And I'm already dead because overdose
I hit every note easily whilst trying to be quiet. I have a feeling that this is innaccurate because I have done various tests on my range and haven't hit a g5.....
CarlostGaming it is correct, you probably sang an octave lower.
True! Can you do one for Brian McKnight live and even Wanya Morris from Boyz 2 Men?!
With some vocal training, he could be a BEAST.
Yup. By purpose or not, for me his voice still dope.
Many tenor can reach his range without strain, but still, it wont hit max potential of his song if it doesn't strain.
Voice isn't like wee wee. No matter how big your voice is, if it sounds crap, that's still crap for me.
Where's the A2?
Thepeacemaker6342 nonexistent
He can hit A2# on a good day when warmed up
I'm a male & my range starts at c5 and also does my belts & they end at bb5 & my falsatto starts at c5 also & ends at c6 im 19 & sing very light & high wit lil weight in lowers what is my vocal type?
"whatever the reason for the straining, technique, placement, smoking, drinking... I dont care its an excuse it doesnt change the fact that he strains" So you are saying that drinking, smoking, or doing drugs doesn't matter and that it doesn't effect the voice, it's just an excuse. Well those things are legitimate reasons of why singers strain in the first place because of the harm that smoking does period. To you he disappoints, that's the difference. An opinion, not a fact.
can you send to me the video of 6:12 ?? please and thank you.
1:31 Hey tori
He dont sounds like a countertenor he sound like a light lyric tenor and he use much his head voice, certainly he have a great control of his voice like michael jackson or freedy mercury, i am a tenor but i will never reach above a D5 with my mix voice like him
Supported Range?
There is no such thing as a "supported range". That's a highly non-sciebtific term that was jus invented by layman Matheus a few years ago
What is the song from 6:03-6:21 the note is C#5 ??? thank you
talking to the moon
I’ve seen him hit a f sharp 5 before.
Counter Tenor can reach C6 and way up high and sing great with falsetto, his just a Tenor, Lyric Tenor I guess
2 octaves and 6 notes :)
I legit don't get the vocal notes of male and female. Like I can hit his A2 but my lowest is C3 which I can just do. (Like the one from Beyonce's Halo when she goes "they didn't make a >sound
Rolling Apples if your lowest note is a C3 but you can hit a A2 then your lowest note certainly isn't C3
Iman Zeghoudi yea. I was confused about octaves. My lowest is C2, I can hit B1 occasionally tho
Rolling Apples my lowest is C#3-D3 I wish I could go lower tho
Iman Zeghoudi I'd prefer to go higher.
Rolling Apples to me high notes are the most impressive but the lower ones are the most pleasant to listen to I think my highest note is a E6 in falsetto
OMG. im male and before 2 months i could belt out a E5 without problem, my highest belt was A5. I smoke since two years, And i've used very bad technique, now my voice goes sometimes better sometimes worse, my highest belt now , is ( sometimes) D5 , and it's not a good one.. What do you think i need some help, is my voice going to come back ? Now i'm also taking singing lessons . SOS
I'm sorry for being so late, please contact a doctor with further concerns about smoking affecting your voice! I wish the best for you !!!
KING
A great Lyric Tenor
A countertenor must be able to hit at least A5 with full voice.
Carlos Peña What is full voice for you though? And not really, countertenors are actually tenors that sing in falsetto.
do you mean in full head voice? hmm I'm condused 😊 but I agree tgat he's not a countertenor
What is the range of Today my life begins guys?
