  • The Who are an English rock band formed in London in 1964. Their classic line-up consisted of lead singer Roger Daltrey, guitarist and singer Pete Townshend, bass guitarist John Entwistle and drummer Keith Moon. They are considered one of the most influential rock bands of the 20th century, selling over 100 million records worldwide.
    The Who developed from an earlier group, the Detours, and established themselves as part of the pop art and mod movements, featuring auto-destructive art by destroying guitars and drums on stage. Their first single as the Who, "I Can't Explain", reached the UK top ten, and was followed by a string of singles including "My Generation", "Substitute" and "Happy Jack". In 1967, they performed at the Monterey Pop Festival and released the US top ten single "I Can See for Miles", while touring extensively. The group's fourth album, 1969's rock opera Tommy, included the single "Pinball Wizard" and was a critical and commercial success. Live appearances at Woodstock and the Isle of Wight Festival, along with the live album Live at Leeds, cemented their reputation as a respected rock act. With their success came increased pressure on lead songwriter Townshend, and the follow-up to Tommy, Lifehouse, was abandoned. Songs from the project made up 1971's Who's Next, which included the hit "Won't Get Fooled Again". The group released the album Quadrophenia in 1973 as a celebration of their mod roots, and oversaw the film adaptation of Tommy in 1975. They continued to tour to large audiences before semi-retiring from live performances at the end of 1976. The release of Who Are You in 1978 was overshadowed by the death of Moon shortly after.

    Live at the LA Forum...1969 or so...I was there...this takes me back...we all held up our lighters at the start of the concert..joints and pipes in the other hand...it was all passed around freely one brother and sister in rock to another...a security guard passed out just breathing our air...they carried him out..small faces opened the concert...or at least I think they did...lol...I'm a old man now...67 years old all my close family are dead..Mom Pop and Brother...my ex is a psycho that enjoys ripping my heart out with her ...Gaslighting and...Emotional affairs..and more..with other men...she has a " Hes just a friend " she likes to have sleep over with her for the weekends and whenever...she showed me on a skype call from 6 thousand miles away one time while he was handing her a glass of wine on a Friday night at her apartment alone right in the middle of our talk of getting back together...But you know what...I still like myself and try to take care of myself and I have memories like this concert and my Brothers and Sisters I feel that are out there young and old that love this old Rock and Roll...Be good to yourself

    Yes i agree...moon was great , played the whole kit, i think his style was possible because the who were not riff based which would have demanded a more strict beat

    It always amazes me that this classic 'The Who' single only got to No26 in the UK and No25 in the US. A hugely underrated track of theirs.

    • @redacted2275
      @redacted2275 ปีที่แล้ว

      "Underrated"? Are you mad? "I Can See for Miles" reached #10 in the charts, the next singles didn't reach #30... that's not an intelligent way to call something "underrated"... "Pinball Wizard" reached only #19 in the U.S... that doesn't mean it's "underrated," what an imbeciIe way of thinking...

    • @stephenalanmoore7278
      @stephenalanmoore7278 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@redacted2275 Who are you to slag me off?
      I was only expressing an opinion that the single should have gone much higher in the charts than it did, as it is one of their best tracks. What on earth was wrong with that?
      The band themselves thought so, too. Pete Townshend, in particular, was bitterly disappointed at it's chart position.
      That comment I made was not offensive or insulting to anyone in any way, but your's CERTAINLY was.
      Who suddenly gave YOU the right to criticize me? If you disagree with me, then fine. We all have differing views on things. However, there was absolutely no need for that abusive reply you sent.
      Why can't we just agree to disagree like mature adults instead of hurling childish insults at each other for no reason whatsoever?
      GROW UP!!!

    The WHO one of the greatest rock bands ever to take the stage…Yeah I know the Beatles the Stones Zeppelin… but the WHO had their on special magic. Those were fighting songs. The were and still to this day are AMAZING! RIP to Tommy Smothers of the Smothers Brothers…He was one of the early leaders and activists of making people aware of what the government was doing. Tommy always played kind of the silly brother to Dick Smothers strait main “establishment” “silent majority”…older brother figure. But Tommy was the driving figure behind making people aware of the dirty world of politics and largely because of so many young men being drafted and sent to Vietnam fighting a War that politicians would not allow them to win. Also Women although not drafted volunteered to go to Vietnam and don’t get near enough recognition that they deserve. That needs to change.

    When he said, "sounding very much like The Rolling Stones" , I felt anger on behalf of the boys. Probably got it a lot at first , but they sounded like them . I can't remember what artist it was , but they were in an interview, and the interviewer said something about them being regarded as the next (insert name) . The artist cut them off and said " no, I'm the first (insert name)."

    The short studio version of Magic Bus which the Who were sensible enough to use for their play back performance in the Beat Club was the very best version. Pitily the Who weren't unable or not willing to deliver the only well structured and dynamic version live. Every live performance was a sloppy
    boring too much extended one without any increase like the later start of John Entwhistle and the delayed and sudden crazy rush in of Keith Moon the
    loon.
