Differences in Plaiting Techniques & How That Impacts Your Rosettes

  • I often get asked how I get my plaits to look like they do & putting that together with other common questions and differences in plaiting, I've made this video to better explain why I plait like I do and to show how the differences in plaiting will impact your rosette.
Some of the common differences I see in plaiting a horses manes for rosettes includes:
    ~Using or not using product
~Whether you dampen the hair or not
~How tight you do the plait
~If you start the plait off a little looser or not
Another difference that I forgot when I was videoing and just thought of when I started writing this post is - Whether you plait 'over' (so if it was a braid it would be a French braid) or 'under' (if it were a braid it would be a dutch braid).
To get the softer/loopy look over the crest at the top of your plait you need to plait 'over'. If you plait 'under' you've only got the centre section of the plait that can go up, the two side pieces go under, so they can't sit up and give that soft look.
I hope this video helps to illustrate what I often try and write in reply to questions on my photos & videos.
The products that I use when I plait are available here www.nagstoriches.com.au/produ...

if your daughter prefers their horse with a longer mane. may i suggest the technique where u pull the plait trough to form the little ball, and the rest goes on the other side of the neck as a braid and comes back to join the next plait. my horse has very thin hair so i use this technique to make sure he has more than 5 tiny plaits as i can use the length of the previous braid as volume for the next

What do you recommend for bridle paths? I have been told to not have any bridle path at all anymore to lengthen look of neck. I note you have a bridle path. Have I misunderstood?
Can you please confirm common practice?
I LOVE your videos! I have learned so much and have bought so many of your products!

I have the same issue with a rubbed out name half way down on my horse.
Fear not, This company N T R along with Equine Imaging also make a mane enhancer product. You get 6 pieces of ready to hair for plaitting (for thin manes) and they roll up to about a medium size rosette (also sold by both companies) . Hope that helps! 😊
