    Nice tips! I also put together a video like this but I pack fro a RTW trip in a cary on. I love not having to worry about my bag making it. I also recommend a door stop. So great t put infront of your door to prevent people from coming in easily. Rope is awesome for so many things. Love that clothing line. I also love bringing a water pump. It may cost a bit but it saves so much money in the end since you buy so many bottles water when you travel. Better for the environment too.

    Thank you for sharing! Makes me look forward to getting out! Add a candle to use if the power goes out since you have the lighter. I agree that you could get by with less and take a smaller bag, but it worked well for you . Also a titanium mug/pot/cup would work for heating water in. In CAm they sell bags of water so a bottle is handy for filling. The hat is great in summer because you might be in a place like a plane or buss with the AC cranked up.

    I just picked up a Porter 46 myself and have a REI Flash 22 daypack (which can be rolled to almost nothing!). The last time I did a RTW trip, which was also 11 months long, I took a Osprey Soujourn 25 wheeled convertible which I think was a bit too much. The next trip I plan to do with only carry on, let's see how that goes ;) Thanks for sharing your video!

    Hi elfasa, glad you liked the videos. I travel cheaply, so I spent ~ $15,000 USD all in for the year, I think 20 - 25K per year is more common. Have a great trip!

    Hi Nicolas, the bag is definitely not flimsy. It is extremely high quality, after 12+ months of travel is shows almost no wear and tear. The shoulder straps are quite comfortable, but as you know the hip strap is not padded. Generally this is OK because its a smaller bag and the weight is lighter, so I haven't found it to be an issue. Cheers.

    on some airlines you can take a bag this size as carry-on, but on most I had to check it (the bag's straps zip into the backing, so that it doesn't get damaged in conveyer belts, etc)

    Useful video Boris...am heading out to South East Asia and have gone for the Osprey Farpoint 40 as I wanted carry-on so I need to keep the weight under 7 kilos. Most of the stuff you had on the inventory was already on my list, but some things were not so thanks for sharing! I shall do the same when I get back after 6 months or so as sharing is caring :)

    You fit so much in that little bag. How many inches would you say your bag was? Did you have any trouble taking it on board with you? Next time we travel abraod I don't want to have to check in any luggage. Whatever fits on my carry on bag is all tah I want to take. It will have to have wheels since i have a bad back but would like it to have shoulder straps as well for short times I would have to carry it. Just loved this video! :) Melody

    Hey, I've been thinking of buying an osprey porter backpack because they're about the only backpack I have seen that doesn't have a detachable day-sack. I've heard a lot of complaints about them being uncomfortable, as in the straps aren't great for a heavy load or long time wear? Any input would be appreciated, thanks for the video, very informative!

    @khillertubes, I would have loved to treat water, but I couldn't find a practical and affordable solution to do so. It seems that many methods require a fairly long prep time. If you have a water treatment solution you can recommend, I would love to learn more about it.

    I know you mentioned a lighter? Did you have any trouble taking that on the plane? Can we take matches on the plane? I haven't traveled abroad since 911 when so many rules have changed. Thanks. :) Melody

    • @BorisMasis
      @BorisMasis  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Living Free Forever thanks for watching Melody! I didn't have trouble with the lighter, but I did check my bag most of the time. If I had planned on making it carry-on friendly the whole time I would have probably left the lighter at home (or waited for the confiscation, they are quite cheap to replace)

    • @LivingFree207

    Good video. I have more electronics cpap and meds being a lot older than you. Were you able to but that bag in overheads or did you have to check it. If checked where did you keep your computer. Typically I carry to bags. one as a carryon on which has my ipad, meds and cpap machine and my chargers, powerstrip.... Then I check to rest.

    • @BorisMasis
      @BorisMasis  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. It's not 100% carry-on safe. I have successfully carried it on, but have also had airlines request that I check it. You would have to keep it relatively understuffed to be on the safe side.
      I usually checked it and had a small cheap backpack from target that I used for carry on.

    hello from the 'third world' :P
    very informative video. Thanks for the great tips you have shared here.
    could identify all the Indian products there. but if you had interacted with any middle class/affluent locals, they would have tipped you against rexona, for instance. and suggested better alternatives. And versa.
    lastly, India is technically not third world or under developed or even one of the least developed countries anymore. India has been recognized globally as a developing country and even an upcoming super power by many (though I don't see that happening in some time, thanks to colonisation- before which interestingly, there are recorded documents in UK mentioning how there wasn't even a single beggar here, how everyone was employed, there wasn't any malnutrition or starvation or poverty- all are gifts of the several invasions our country has had to face for two centuries that bled us dry. Not that any of us hold anyone personally responsible for. but it's nice when at least folks- especially of fair skin, call us the third world. which we are most definitely not. you can check any political/social/cultural or economic forums to check this. developing country, us. less/ not as developed that the west, ok. even poorer country in comparison to the US, ok. but definitely not one of least developed countries either. there are a hundred other countries that are less developed than India. you may like to look that up.
    feels nice when I read about people from the world over come and visit us. we Indians do love our guests. but when we hear them calling us least developed/ third world, it becomes kind of a buzz kill, if you know what I mean.
    cheers

      Wow, your comments are way out of line on a packing video. A lot of Indian goods can be purchased outside India, in the third world. Your outrage at prior actions of prior generations resulting in a venomous rant on this kids channel is so out of line. The kid shared valuable information on packing. Thats all he did. We all have issues with the political horrors of the past (and to often present) but taking your frustration out on this kids channel does not help. If anything it makes the world appear hostel, which has never been my experience with travel. I do hope that when you wrote those comments you where having a bad day and where simply in a bad mood and that things have improved. If not than I really don't care to know you.

    • @BajpaiRupali
      @BajpaiRupali 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hostile*
      then*
      way too many spelling mistakes in your comment
      my comment btw, was on how the 'kid', on several occasions here, called India under-developed/third world country and what not.
      please watch the whole video and 'listen', before jumping the gun.
      I hope you were just having a bad day when you ranted off at me and that you are not as 'hostile' (not hostel) in reality.
      Take care and good luck with your English, patience, comprehension, life skills and everything else.
      p.s. I live how you conveniently skipped all the parts where I thanked him, complemented him and acknowledged how no Indian anyone 'personally responsible' and how we love our guests and all that. Wonderfully selective 'negative' perception perhaps? Food for thought.

    You keep on talking about 3rd world and 1st world and i dont even thing you know how respective that sounds... and is not even necessary... for you to say a asia or america or europe is more than enough to get the point...

    • @BorisMasis
      @BorisMasis  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +daniellesoy thanks for watching! "Third world" was originally a political term based on NATO alignment, and you're right, its become more polarizing lately. A better term would be "least developed countries."

    • @daniellesoy
      @daniellesoy 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Development is a heavy political term and a very neoliberal definition, Amartya Sen totally fxck that for most of the planet. :) thanks for replying!

    • @HW-ct1iq
      @HW-ct1iq 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Boris Masis Iunno, "least developed" sounds way worse, like you're saying theyre backward and not as good as the "West" or "first world". And development of what? A lot of the postcolonial literature uses the term "global south", but that's perhaps a bit weird to refer to somewhere you're going, rather than as different from the West. Maybe just say something like "places that aren't like the US". Doesn't wrongfully paint too many diverse peoples and ways of life with the same brush.
      All the same, fantastic pair of videos. So many things I would never have thought of. Thank you.

    • @RandRoberts2112

      +Boris Masis I don't think it is wrong for you to say that countries are less developed when talking about countries that don't have their infrastructure as developed as countries like the U.S. or England. That isn't impugning the quality of the culture in those countries, it is just stating the fact that they aren't as developed. Referring to countries as first or third world is a common way of distinguishing the environment you find yourself in, so I wouldn't worry about people getting offended because they have somehow contorted that in their mind to be disrespectful. Great videos! I've watched these two videos countless times over the past couple of years and I am finally taking the steps to begin my own journey. Thanks for the inspiration!
