    I got a tool off of amazon for $16 to get my ‘18 Colorado Z71 to relearn my mounted/balanced wheel and tire package with the sensors installed from you guys. Took about 30 seconds to use.. Saved me money so I was happy.

    Please note. Some earlier year model will note there is a tpms but its indirect. There are 2 kinds of tpms, indirect and direct.
    Direct is the wireless signal we all have currently and is inside the tire well.
    Indirect is when its part of the abs or braking system. There will be no sensor in the tire well.

    • @AlaskaErik
      @AlaskaErik 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even today some European manufacturers use the indirect system. This system uses speed differential between tires to sense a loss of air pressure. Its primary drawback is that you cannot display pressure in each tire as there is no way to determine it, so an idiot light is the only indication available. Direct system come in two types. A basic system will only give an idiot light indication while more advanced systems will display the actual pressure in each tire on the DIC. The advantage of the more advanced system is that a loss of pressure in a tire will result in a message being displayed on the DIC indicating which tire is losing air and what the actual pressure is. This lets you decide on whether you need to pull over immediately (fast loss of air) or continue until it's safe to stop or to reach a tire shop (slow loss of air).

    gm dealers also use the EI-50448 tool to relearn the tires, its a $20-30 remote and works with the factory sensors. But most will have another tool/scanner for aftermarket sensors too.

    Hay Custom Offset, I just installed my new wheel and tire package on my 2015 Jeep JKU.

    It was mid to late 2007 when that law was implemented. I have a early build 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 with no TPMS on it. I bought it new and have replaced the tires and wheels on it once already and had it checked back then just to make sure.

    I would like to inquire: can you install a TPMS sensor on a small trunk wheel on a car which has TPMS system, but for full size wheels only without modification of the existing system. And can you install that system on a car which doesn't have TPMS? Thank you for the informative film.

      BlackRaven I forgot about this comment. Mine was a fiasco! I had to go to discount tire and the said their tpms would probably work, but they have had problems with the new rams syncing with aftermarket sensors. I bought factory ones from a dealer and they said they didn’t want to install them because the were afraid of scratching my wheels. I had them installed somewhere else and some of the sensors worked and some didn’t. I had to have them uninstalled and and return the “bad ones”. Then bought more and had the installed, and it finally worked. And that was the short version. Custom Offsets did right though by refunding me the original sensors, and paying for the new ones to be installed.

    • @fiehlsport
      @fiehlsport 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, most times the shops won't even dismount them. They have arms that can press on the sidewall to expose the TPMS sensors, allowing you to remove them without taking the tire off. It'd just need a re-balance afterwards.

    • @kthwkr
      @kthwkr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had to pay close to $400 to replace my dead battery sensors on my Honda tires.
      If the sensors cost $50 each then that's $200 of sensors. And dismounting every wheel and putting in the new sensor will likely take an hour. At auto shop rates of $100 per hour that's $100. So at the least they are going to charge you $300. But they want to make a profit on the sensors so they run the price of them up to $70 each. So $380 seems like a ball park price. Plus tax. And besides, the last time I had a flat I knew it before the sensors told me so TPMS is pointless. It should be banned.

    Hi..I have Buick Enclave AWD 2013. Recently I had the tires changed and I started getting the warning "Service Tire Monitor System"..I learned from YT how to do it. So gave it a try but it did not work. I do not have option for TPMS learning so I pressed Lock and Unlock button on remote simultaneously and the display showed TPMS Learning Active. Headlights were off front left parking light turned on. I had 240Kpa pressure (35psi in all tires) I purged out some air from front left and waited. Nothing happened and the front left light turned off without any beep. I did that without starting the engine. I followed again to no avail. Then I did it with the engine running same thing. I have already verified all tires are in correct position. So when I checked the pressure it was 228kpa instead of 240kpa. What could be the problem? Please give some tip. I have all tires showing the correct pressure except the rear right showing "- - - ". no pressure before it was showing 700kpa which was false. Is it the bad sensor? or car needs to learn again. Please help while I am sill searching. Thank you in advance.

    What do you recommend for situations when aftermarket wheels block or do not allow TPMS from being detected during the relearn process. I bought a new set of methods from you guys and after first rotation, I cannot get them to relearn the new positions. I've read that some aftermarket wheels cause others the same issue. Maybe the sensor is placed further from the sidewall than in the stock wheel set up.

    The Motor Vehicle Safety Act (49 USC 30122(b)) prohibits manufacturers, distributors, dealers, or motor vehicle repair businesses cannot disable the TPMS. Does not say if the customer on their own can do this.
    Its this simple, do you want TPMS to protect your investment in tires? I routinely clone sensors for a second set of rims and occasionally install the Schrader retrofit kit for other vehicles and the occasional trailer.

    If you have a Chevy, GMC or Ford you can get a relearn tool on Amazon for $10 to $15. Just get an EL-50448 relearn tool for your particular make. Mine cost me $15 and it can be used on Chevy/GMC and Ford. There are others out there for other makes. This tool can be used when rotating tires, getting new sensors when the battery dies in the ones that came with the vehicle (battery lifespan is typically 5-7 years) or when learning the sensors for trailer tires. 2019 and newer Chevy/GMC 1500 pickups in some trim levels come with trailer tire sensors. Once installed on your trailer, these sensors allow you to display the tire pressure and tire temperature on your infotainment screen, negating the need for an aftermarket TPMS system for a trailer.

I also tried doing it myself with turning the key to the on position scrolling through dash menu to tire monitoring holding the select button down til truck chirped twice. which it did then drivers side parking light came on to start the sequence then let air out of that tire waiting for truck to sense air loss and horn to sound once. Man, I'm struggling with mine. How ridiculous!!! I have purchased two different kinds and had them balanced. It's the front left. I can not get it to sink. The other 3 will work, just not the new one. I've taken into consideration of all electronics in the truck.(2010 Ford f-150 4×4). Even the spare. Started by removing air, then adding air. Then purchased the little programmer. I've about had it. On top of this crap, I need what's called an off road balance balance for all 4 tires because they are larger tires. I've had them over a year and it is now starting to vibrate when I'm at 50-60 mph. It stops if I go above that. After spending 80 to get them rotated and balanced, I am told I need the special balance. I've about had it. I don't like being ripped off and feel that's what's being done over and over and over. HELP !!!!!!!! Oh yeah, can't get the programmer to work either

    if i have an 06 f150 does my vehicle need tpms?

  • @kthwkr
    @kthwkr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    * Here's the sixth thing that is rarely discussed about TPMS. It increases pollution. It takes energy to build a TPMS sensor and it's system. There has to be a factory with machines, lighting, heating system, parking lot for employees. The employees go home at night to families and they cook food and heat their homes. The employees are not robots that are hung up on a hook at the end of the day. They continue to consume energy. The TPMS sensors need a whole system throughout the car to monitor it. The manufacturing of that system uses energy.
    * The sensors have a battery in them so they have an end of life built into them. (and as an engineer you can't imagine how angry I am that the system was made with a battery that is going to eventually run dead and force replacement - what a scam!)
    * They claim "up to 3% better gas mileage". "up to"!!! When you see those words "up to" you need to always think, "I'm being lied to." But let's go with 3%. But beware that just a few short years ago they claimed 2%. They got away with that exaggeration so they pushed it up even higher.
    * Now the math.
    30MPG car, 100k miles, uses about 3,333 gallons of gas. Assume $3 per gallon. So for 100kmiles you use $10,000 of gas.
    Now for 3% less:
    29.1MPG, 100k miles, uses about 3,436 gallons of gas. Assume $3 per gallon. So over 100kmiles you use $10,309 of gas. That's an extra $309 of gasoline.
    Now let's use another claim. Low tires reduce gas mileage "up to" 2MPG. There's that "up to" phrase again but this time they use direct mpg instead of percent of mpg.
    I am pretty sure when whoever the dishonest person was(I bet he was "up to" 100% dishonest:) that came up with "up to" 2MPG reduction for low tires did his test on a car with all four tires at 8psi. How often does that happen?
    But let's do the math anyway.
    28MPG, 100k miles, uses about 3,571 gallons of gas. Assume $3 per gallon. So over 100kmiles you use $10,714. An increase of $714 in gasoline.
    * BUT!!! the whole TPMS system on the car to begin with from the manufacturer added at least $1000 to the cost of your car. Plus you have to replace the sensors and that ends up costing $400 each time. And is it possible to get your tires changed without the tech busting a sensor? So you spend more money on the whole system than you save on money for gasoline. And the cost for commodities (a TPMS system is a commodity) is a measure of the energy used to create the commodity. A work of art is often far more expensive than the energy used to produce it. Art is not a commodity. Dr. Dre headphones are not priced as a commodity. But for most things the energy to produce it is a large part of the price. So use the price as a measure of the energy used to create the item.
    THEREFORE, much more energy is used to construct and maintain a TPMS system than it actually saves. TPMS is not environmentally friendly. TPMS adds pollution to the environment. It does exactly the opposite of the initial claim for the justification of the system.

    Everyone saying those prices aren't accurate are insane. I've worked at multiple tire shops and they always charge for dismounting and mounting the tires. Not only that but if you have to pay for new valve stems to be put on the sensors. Depending on the tire that could mean taking the entire tire off to be able to get a torx bit into it to undo it. And if we ever took an entire tire off we would rebalance it. So yeah you would be looking at 25 a tire for just swapping sensors. So 8 tires total to be dismounted and mounted again. Exactly what he says in the video.

They checked the stock tpms sensors to see if there were damaged and there fine. Does anyone have an idea what i could be? Do i just need to buy new ones?

    Another thing you didnt say about people not wanting to put their TPMS back into their wheels is that some vehicles like my 2012 Honda Civic Si, if the TPMS light is on, you can NOT disable traction control. Which absolutely sucks incase you find your self in a situation when u need to disable it like being stuck in sand, mud or snow. Or if you just want to go to "mexico" for some good ole fashoined drag racing and when u go from 1st to 2nd and your tires try to chirp but cant because the traction control is on and it pulls power from the motor thus slowing you down.

    if the tpms is faulty before a shop does any work to the vehicle then they are not required by law to fix it and neither is the owner of the vehicle. only businesses selling a vehicle need to make sure its working at the time of sale. also if a vehicle had a working tpms at the time a shop took the vehicle in the vehicle can not then leave the shop without a working tpms system but as i said if the tpms system was already faulty there is no legal requirement for the business or the owner of the vehicle to make sure the vehicle leaves with a working tpms. also tpms stands for tire pressure monitoring system so saying tpms sensor/s makes perfect sense.
