- Captured on the 6th and 23rd of August 2024, this video offers a look at the driver training runs for the newly completed Port Dock Line, set to open to regular service on Sunday, the 25th of August. This $51 million project represents a significant enhancement to the Adelaide rail network (chuckles).
The Port Dock Line branches off from the Outer Harbor Line near the former Rosewater Junction, now known as Port Adelaide Junction. A crossing loop is provided just after the junction with the loop signaled for left-hand running before it transitions back to single track, bidirectional working down to the Port Dock Interchange next to the National Railway Museum.
Whether you're a rail enthusiast or just curious about this major infrastructure project, this video provides a small preview of what’s to come. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more updates on railway developments and train journeys!

❤Australian locomotive fantastic turistic congratulations pictures of you all posting.
Thanks for the upload! Will be good to take it at some point.
This service should've gone via Gillman with Kilburn upgraded as an Interchange Station. New stations built along the route and the Rosewater loop upgraded as well.
A lot of people would've used the service if they knew they could get from the North and South to work round Regency/Wingfield.
Good point with it linking up with Dry Creek and Mawson Lakes -Good idea
Good video Stewart, $51 million a lot of money spent on that.
Considering they took up the old one in the eighties only to replace it like the trams
great video!! random question, does anyone know what that building to the left of the tacks is/was used for (seen in the first 59 seconds of the video) ? I always see it and wonder what it is and what Its doing there ahead.
I think it’s an old infrastructure building for the old rosewater loop
I see the Government has filled in where the rosewater line branched left
There must be a docking port!!!!
If it docked with the buffers I’d be quite worried! 😂😂
3015 not hybrid yet, but 3009 hybrid. (3009 was one of the first hybrid 3000's) The older 3000's and 3100's still in service will not be hybrid. The sleepers also have an option for standard gauge even though I doubt it will ever become standard gauge.
Eventually the suburban system must be standard gauge. The only alternative is a dual gauge system (Belair and Gawler being standard and the rest being broad), but that would be ridiculous.
@martythemartian99 I agree, however at the rate of progress we are seeing I don’t see it happening within the next 10-15 years.
How about a service from Salisbury to Two Wells?
That would be a wise move given all the development out that way!
Saying that, the Adelaide Suburban lines would need to be converted to standard gauge. It would be rather foolish to have just one section standardised.
I also wonder what the ARTC would say about having to share their line with Adelaide Metro…
Was there a cost benefit analysis for this?
I’m sure there is somewhere. I’m sure it would be publicly available online.
Yes, and that is why it was built. With population increase and suburban infill, many old lines may be returned to service in the years to come because of increasing road traffic volumes.
Are you going to be at the railway museum tomorrow or might see you?
Potentially, I injured myself at footy today so I’m going to see how I go in the morning!
@@choo_choo_stew who do you play for?
@@choo_choo_stew did you hear what happened with the redhead?
@HarveyDurant-g9v I umpire 😂 apparently we can get injured too.
Word on the rails is a mechanical failure of some sort. Apparently they will be running tomorrow.
Location?
Port Adelaide 😊
the bridge shots are from Grand Junction Road Overpass. There is quite a nice shared path that follows the railway from the aviation museum down towards the railway museum. 😊
Is that a new train line
Is it even available to travel on
@@user-ib3hv6ee8v yep! First revenue service today!
The one kilometre spur is new, it connects up to the Outer Harbor Line just west of Alberton
