4 yrs post upload, this video still explains why the Catapult is my all-time favorite mech. It looks DOPE Missiles - lots of em Jump jets cause C1 And it looks DOPE
Your final comments pretty much sum up why the Catapult has been so popular. Like the Awesome - or hell, even the UrbanMech - it knows its role and it does it very well. But even better than that, having jumps and a brace of lasers means it has a decent backup option when plans fall apart. Personally, my favorite mech designs are ones like this, with one set of weapons to do most of the work, and a second set for either follow-up attacks or emergencies. Neither over-specialized like the Charger, nor too generalized like the Shadow Hawk.
This will forever be known as the bane of my existence My friend's favorite tactic involves parking these behind his lance, firing until he's pretty much out of LRM ammo, and only then advancing. A good counter to these pests if you find yourself unable to deal with this type of situation is to just run around in circles, only barely staying in range. Stack all the pluses. And then laugh when they run out of ammo and realize that I have more guns
Not gonna lie, it's funny as heck when someone charges the Catapult only to find that it's packing SRMs…. They're in for a world of hurt, and I've built triple-six racks on each shoulder. That's a lot of hate to be throwing around in a brawl!
I have always though of the Catapult and the Crusader as brother mechs. They both serve as fire support, however when the line breaks, the Catapult has to retreat to survive a HK. In that situation, a Crusader can stand and fight, wheras a Catapult has to retreat (and it can). I guess i would rather face 4 med lasers rather than 2 med lasers and two SRM-6's. The best option is to have a Crusader and a Catapult watching each other's backs.
I just got 4x Catapult C3/5s to form an Artillery Lance for my Capellan Warrior House Hiritsu. So with a pile of Fa Shih Battle Armour as backup and to act as Spotters for the Artillery it will make fire support a lot more viable.
The Catalult is part support and part brawler. You can hang out on the edge of the map and fire LRM’s indirect, then when you are out of missle ammo, you can jump in and you have 4 med lasers, jump jets and lots of armor. The Cat can wade in and poke those holes that the LRM’s made with her med lasers. Plus it is a really cool looking ‘mech. Check out the CPLT-K2 variant that strips away the jump jets, 2 med lasers and the LRM’s and replaces them with 2 PPC, and 2 machineguns. It’s like a poor man’s warhammer.
The Catapult is a good Mech and does the role of close fire support quite well. It is a versatile Mech that works in many different combat scenarios. It´s low ammo load and mediocre armor mean that it lacks in endurance and is better for small scale fights (lance vs. lance). All the medium lasers are torso mounted creating a blind spot on the rear that can be exploited by fast flankers. Finally the Catapult is quite expensive for it´s actual abilities. A Trebuchet or a Whitworth might also do the job but at a lower price tag.
catapults not badm but i prefer a crusader as its got a little more staying power. that being said i do like fielding my catapult mini because its got an awesome paint job. its got a flying tigers shark mouth and eyes plus its got flames coming off the launchers.
You always talk about how hex maps limit battles. Back in the day, we had a king size sheet with iron on hexes on it. You are only limited by your imagination.
Well, you could have the LRM boat, a splat cat for up close, and the hero laser catapult from MWO. And then a gaussapult, because you're clearly just trolling at that point. ^___^
3025 tech, drop the jets for one or two tons extra ammo, 2 tons extra armor, and maybe an extra medium laser if you only take one extra ton of ammo. 3050, depends on how much newtech you want to put into it.
Dropping the jets is a bad idea, the Catapult's manoeuvrability is one of its best features. I'm generally not a fan of dropping jets on most designs, they're really useful.

And the K model is a very decent brawler too. Its just a good chassis.
Sergeant "Deadeye" Unther... Never taught me how to eject.

No lower arm actuators also means you can fore the LRM’s into the rear arc.
I never liked the look of the original art/miniature of the Catapult, but I do like the newer art/miniature of the Catapult
To me the catapult will always be that mean guy with too many misses that talks shit when I'm learning to pilot my new commando
Great video

So for a support lance, two of these, and say two griffins as bodyguards, plus more lrm/ppc support?

So, what if I brought 4 plus catapults?

@@IanGarris Yes, I am trolling a bit, however catapults are my favorite design aesthetically in BT.
@@IanGarris not the one that comes with a TAG paired with the Arrow IV Cat?

I like the H2 with 5 rocket 20s and ppc
