Gene K Totally agree, I use that humor with myself. But his context tell me something more, why he would not show his work to the band? and the way he responds that question. Anyway I just listening to Mantra track, with Reznor and Tools’s bassist, and have to comment he has all my respect, I’ll not ask a solo from him, but that Mantra’s groove is, well, a perfect mantra full of style and playing expertise. (my english is crappy, just a latin guy! rlol rlol)
I can understand why Axl was upset, let’s face it, when your praising a band you like and they come back and start bad mouthing you for no reason, that’s not nice. Basic common sense. If you don’t like a band or an artist, that’s fine, that’s your right, but why make it personal when you have no history with them?
It wasn't for no reason, Kurt didn't like what Axel stood for in his mind, sexist mindless shit. Who knows. I wish Kurt had gone to duffs house that night
As flattering as it may seem to you for Axl to praise another artists music, Axl wasn't one of those people for Kurt. He despised some of the more sexist, homophobic, and racist lyrics (Specifically one in a million) that Axl himself penned down. I find it difficult to really fault Kurt in the sense of not having much admiration or respect for a person that held those beliefs, let alone criticizing and distancing himself from entirely. but on that same level, i feel for Axl because you can see he was really touched by Kurts music. He was a Nirvana fan, probably in the same way tons of Nirvana maniacs are, he probably heard Smells Like Teen Spirit and then just bought Nevermind, and then got Bleach and really loved it all and loved it so much wanted to meet and witness that brilliance on tour, and then that same guy that he gave shoutouts to, and donned their bands hat criticizes some personal, passionate beliefs Axl held at the time, it's complex, i can see how it would cause anger but i think maybe in time Axl understood and empathized himself how he might have come off to Kurt.
What can you say? Axl Rose is the man. I wouldn't want to fuck with him. Axl will tell you how it is. Love Kurt to but,for obvious different reasons. Both legends!
Yeah Kurt was pretty much a pussy who gave people cheap shots. Kurt is lucky that Axl didn't take him to the pavement because Axl would have destroyed him
both kurt and axl made good arguments about each other. I think kurt's opinion about axl's ego is very true and I could not agree more with how axl points out how kurt would like to pigeon hole people because of what they listen to and if it was something that he didn't approve of he would dismiss them. in many ways they were alike it's just a shame they didn't see eye to eye.
He made jokes about it saying in an interveiw oh no were selling out but really even after sighing he still thought doing music for the money and fame was bullshit, his main problem was that axle rose sexulised wemen, kurt hated that shit
Calling guns n' roses untalented is such a bold statement, I mean, the guys didn't had jack shit, they came out of nowhere and still managed to pull out one heck of an album... I think that requires some talent or a form of passion. (I really love both of them btw)
Kurt actually over-exaggerated his hipster attitude and started a fight with Axl who just wanted to help him. Even Guns N' Roses haters have no right to call them talent less. A band who hit their prime in 80/90s still has dedicated fan-base like you and me. In fact, the original line-up had already split up when I was born yet I still consider Guns N' Roses as one of the greatest if not the best band on planet earth in their prime. Each and every member was talented and nobody could replace nobody from the original line-up.
Nah, he was just legitimately offended by Axl, Clearly. It's not an exaggeration to call a person who says Misogynistic, Homophobic, and Racist things a Misogynistic, Homophobic, Racist.
@@submissivelover it's hard to say what was his main motivation, that most likely was big part mixed with hipster attitude. Anyways it's stupid since Kurt couldn't just pick up the phone and explain what's the problem and made it into 10y olds sizing dicks on a playground because of the first interview and not real communication. I love Nirvana and think Gun's are good.
@@aleksisuuronen9094 Most of it was his objection to the racism, homophobia, and general bigotry. It's pretty simple to surmise why he hated Axl Rose, someone who says racist, bigoted shit is really easy to hate. He didn't need Axl in his life, and there's not much to say to a racist. They didn't really move around similar social circles and why would you pick up a phone a call someone who you don't really need to know or get along with?
@@aleksisuuronen9094 I think the racism and bigotry was more than enough to justify the mockery. Maybe there was a small element of Indie music anger, but if that was the case he would have just ignored them like all the other bands. Kurt wasn't going after Motley Crue or Warrent or anything like that, what made GnR so specifically detestable to kurt was Axl and his attitudes towards Blacks and gays, that seems like that's really the biggest reason. Otherwise he would have just ignored him with the rest of the cheesy Hair Metal groups of the 80's
johnpickk I agree 100% brother. My family is very big into music so much my mom even got me my 1st cassette tape Black Sabbath when I was only 5 in 1985 and my mom and step dad have seen them and guns in roses by themselves, GNR with skid Row 2x and many other concerts and got me hooked on Guns N’ Roses when I was in by never took me to any concerts out of fear cuz I was so young but I was in my early teens when I heard a rumor my favorite bands besides early Sabbath might play Metallica nirvana and GNR was so ridiculously exited and old enough to get my mom to maybe let me go and then all this shot happened. It would have been the best time of my life especially since all 3 are so different and also important in the elevation of real music but sadly back then it was becoming supposedly the cool thing to do by bashing anyone successful then we started having all these different dumbass labels for every different band and you weren’t supposed to like a certain band if ya like another certain band then all the fake punk rock blew up and took over a while
Never understood what people saw in a band like Nirvana and like most alternative rock groups they were over hyped in order to sell their power chord songs, whereas Gun n Rose's was fronted by an incredible singer and backed by an amazing rhythm section that wrote epic ballads and high energy songs like "It's So Easy", and "You Could Be Mine".
dylan Oh, he had one favorite performer? Thats news to me. Up until now i thought he only had things and people that he hated or didnt like. You know like a 14y old girl?
@@joonaslehtonen5372 You're forgetting who Axl was for a minute, lol... Literally the way you described Kurt could easily describe Axl. Think before you write.
Here's my take on this. Kurt, like him or not, was a great guy but was not perfect. Who can claim to be? People were young, blood was boiling and we say things and stuff, and then one day, we grow out of it. Kurt didn't had the chance to do so, but I strongly believe he might have changed his minds about all this, had he found a way to keep going with his life. We have a few lights about this story but we don't really know what was going on. They both could be jerks as we know it. Kurt left us. I miss him. Axl is still around, let's appreciate that. No need to trash on anybody. I wish I had a Kurt and an Axel being jerks to each other today, at least music would still be fun and awesome.
Nice episode as always. However one thing you left out was that Axl wanted Nirvana to play at his 30th birthday party. But Kurt declined the invitation because he was not a fan of Axl. This is basically what kicked off the feud.
oh he did? Hadn't heard that story. Thanks for sharing! I also forgot to mention that courtney love played paradise city in 1999 and was drunk backstage at coachella at GNR's gig. She also was on howard stern's show a few years ago and said Duff Mckagan is a good guy to trust with your money
Guns N' Roses Central Yup. The Axl birthday invitation that Kurt Cobain declined was chronicled in the Nirvana biography/band interviews from the book "Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana" by Michael Azerrad.
JezBollah 667 kurt cobain was the douche!? KURT?!?!?!? funny, because Axl is the biggest fucking douche in all of music history😂 Kurt respected everyone who was a good person. He wasn’t a sexist, racist, or homophobe like Axl
Kurt said: I like the Beatles, but I hate Paul McCartney. I like Led Zeppelin, but I hate Robert Plant. I like the Who, but I hate Roger Daltrey. _Kurt never really stopped being a teenager, did he? When Pete Townsend reviewed the Journals he was deeply offended that Kurt said “I hope I died before he turns into Pete Townsend.” Pete pointed out that when Kurt said that he wasn’t even old. That’s true to people my age (close to 40), but isn’t true when you’re 24 (Kurt)
Axl and Kurt were both brilliant. While Axl was the epitome of the larger than life rock star, Kurt Cobain was the anti-rockstar, the dignified redeemer of rock music. It’s obvious that Axl felt hurt by what Kurt said about him. I wish they would have met before Kurt’s passing and made up.
6:35 I’m sorry but Axl is right. Part of kurts problem with depression was he was anti-establishment just based on the premise of it not realizing some of it was good and started off itself as the outside, Kurt became what he hated - a rockSTAR
Ye an all the time its what kurt wanted to be a rockstar then denied what he was sayn he didnt it was stupid he set out to b a rockstar from the beginning
For the longest time, I would alway think that if Kurt did commit suicide Axl and Kurt would've became best friends. Than Kurt would've persuaded Axl to get back with GNR sooner. Made more magical music.
The Foo Fighterz are doing a show in Tulsa, Oklahoma tonight. So last night, Dave Grohl performed with GnR playing Paradise City. That was cool to see.
He just misunderstood axl. He judged axl without knowing his real backstory. To be honest, they came from the same chaos. I guess kurt was being a social justice warrior for no reason against axl. Axl was also messed up by his childhood. If only kurt had the guts to talk to Axl personally.
@@estebanceja9473 I think they would have ended their beef eventually had Kurt still been alive. But I do believe Kurt's death affected Axl, and may have contributed to Axl becoming a hermit in the mid to late 90's.
@@VicM-xc9zb Your first statement is most likely true. Kurt sat next to Duff McKagan on an airplane on his way back to Seattle and the two talked a bit. Maybe sometime during the mid-90's Kurt would've buried the hatchet with them, but by then GnR was essentially gone anyway so I don't know who would've really cared.
@@estebanceja9473 WHO is Kurt to complsain about Axl, when he and Courtney didn't even respect HIS OWN child enough not to do drugs while she was pregnant?
I know that Axl really did love Nirvana and It hurt his feelings that Kurt was so negative towards him. When a guy like Axl has his feelings hurt , the response isn't rational. It's not sorrow or disappointment (his ego wouldn't allow it.) It's anger. He lashed out from the humiliation of being rejected. We've all been there, it just wasn't broadcasted to the public. I will only mention this briefly because I Love Courtney and am NOT advocating hatred towards her. But she did think Axl was hot and mentioned it in her Behind the Music. The whole thing might be chalked down to Kurt being the jealous boyfriend / husband. Ultimately, I'm a huge fan of both bands. GnR surpassed the "hair metal" craze because they were better than Cherry Pie and Girls Girls Girls. And Nirvana was obviously the ones who kicked the door down for the 90s sound. There's no reason anyone couldn't love both bands, and I don't think Axl was wrong here. He turned to childish gestures later but I was happy to hear they all ultimately reconciled because the "feud" was pretty meaningless.
Its funny how people here an accent from Indiana people. I have lived most of my life about 30 miles north of where axls childhood home is. I lived in Illinois ( about 35-40 miles ), to the east of where I live and where axl grew up. When I was in illinois everyone thought I sounded like I lived way out in the sticks. Like I was from down south, Kentucky or Tennessee. Ive just never noticed it myself.
You can think that, but some of us refuse to separate the artist from their music, and aren’t going to go around and listen to racist, sexist, homophobic, anti-immigrant assholes like GNR. And if you had listened to literally ANYTHING Kurt said, or less known GNR songs like “one in a million” or “get in the ring”, your already understand this.
@@TheBLGL I've listened to almost all Kurt interviews, and I've listened to every GNR song. One In A Million is a well written song, but you're right. When he mentions minority groups such as n******, immigrants, and f******, it's a little uncomfortable to listen to, which is why I choose not to listen to that song a lot. Get In The Ring, on the other hand, is a fantastic song. I don't see anything wrong with it, and it kicks ass.
Kurt tried wayyyyy too fucking hard to be "anti" mainstream, but yet he played a fucking MTV Unplugged show...he was the epitomy of what mainstream was and is. His t-shirts are being sold in Wal Marts across the globe today, I wonder how he would have felt about that. Dont get me wrong, I love Nirvanas music but he was a try hard.
Remmy Riffs & Slams The only reason why he played the Unplugged was because he thought it would be different and a relaxing take on his band, and he didn’t need to play Teen Spirit
Also, just because his band’s logo is on t-shirts at Walmart, doesn’t mean that people want the shirt because they like Nirvana. But rather, because they like the logo, which is why there is a meme about people wearing a Nirvana shirt when they don’t even know the band
Exactly I’m not a fan really of either man, I got my issues with “asshole” rose as well but when someone wants to help you out and there’s no beef between people, it’s really a dick move to start bashing the person and call their band untalented and go on to further attack them
Well no, if you're a Nirvana fan then you should respect the fact that Kurt had some ethical concerns, mainly Axl's treatment of women. I do love both bands, but Axl had no place threatening Kurt when he's holding a child and telling Courtney that she should know her place and be kept in line.
Dude, where do you find this stuff? I've been following this band since day one and you come up with episode after episode of stuff I've never heard of before. And back it all up with the original footage. Awesome work, dude!
I grew up loving Kurt, but the more I learn about him, the more I think he was very insecure and jealous. Axl is intelligent, talented, and supported Nirvana. It's sad that Cobain just hated him for his success. Who else thinks there was jealousy there? Especially with the creepy Courtney Love's "plan" was to marry either Cobain or Rose because they both had the perfect noses. What a weirdo! Axl has great taste in women and deserves all his admiration.
Completely agree! I was actually reading down all the comments waiting for someone else that thought it was jealousy. I mean what else could it be? Nothing else makes sense for Kurt to mouth off like that. Meanwhile, certain other grunge bands and their fans constantly trash classic hard rock. Not sure if they're jealous too?? idk, But why?? As a classic 70's & 80's hard rock fan, we're the ones who lost out with record co's cancelling the genre. At least the classic style neo-revival came back in the 2010's with Halestorm, Greta Van Fleet, The Sword, Battle Beast, Dirty Honey etc..
In an interview from september 91, Kurt, when asked if he'd consider touring with Guns n' Roses, said they would do it, because "it's a ridiculous thing, it'd be funny, it'd be a thrill to play in front of so many people". In the same interview, he said "there are a few rock n' roll qualities Guns n' Roses that I kinda like". It's the only thing vaguely positive he said about them. It's an audio interview and it's up on youtube if people care to listen. It was just prior to the release of "Nevermind". Guns played "Teen Spirit" on the PA as part of the playlist before the show, even in 1992. They still liked the music. It's nice Kurt ran into Duff in early march 94 and things were cool between them, and I appreciate they all get along to an extent now.
Everyone seems to praise Kurt here, truth is. Kurt was really being very disrepectful to GNR or Axl at the beginning. So he should have just kept his mouth shut. And if someone is dead, that doesnt make him a legend. Just my thought.
Yeah..... Kurt was just being a little shit head back then. For as brilliant as Kurt was, he had an irrational jealous streak in him for the longest time. I read that Kurt eventually changed his mind about GNR in the end, once it finally hit him how despite his best efforts, Nirvana had essentially become everything he hated about Guns N Roses too. He even had a few nice things to say about them too when he didn't have to. Guess he made peace with him. ..... Or, he just began regretting not letting Axl beat the hell out of Courtney one good time after all. Who knows? Seems the most rational scenario.
Funny how in retrospect nirvana wound up being bigger than gnr even making the r&r hof b4 gnr, and his hallowed wife was probably responsible for his death. Truth stranger than fiction
I was going to agree with you until you said that about Courtney. Dude, you may not like her, but that's fucked up. Kurt loved her, respect that, please.
David Lockwood it was a marketing angle sold to the youth , like all the big acts . I liked some of nirvanas stuff , I hated the band , same with GnR .
@@teddrewflack400 yes I find a few songs for nirvana good. My thing with music is i have to feel and understand it. The thing with cobain is i didn't get it. I understand a few lyrics but most just seems like random words thrown together. Even if it makes any sense I get distracted from the music because the way it comes out. Which in turn gives me no emotional connection. The same with a lot of bands. That's why music is great though it can touch anyone in different ways and that's why all hated bands have a following. Just like nickleback, I love the band but hate kroeger.
I remember all this! I love Nirvana but Kurt really was just being ridiculous back then. Ever wondered why during interviews with the other grunge bands like Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and Pearl Jam; they'd all tell stories about one another coming up in Seattle together? How they all knew, supported, and were close with each other? Ever noticed how Nirvana is never even mentioned by these other Seattle bands during those discussions despite also being signed to the Sub Pop label in Seattle like everyone else? That's because Kurt & Nirvana didn't like them either. Basically, Kurt just didn't like anyone who didn't play punk rock. Sure, Axl was at the apex of his insanity around that time also and deserved being put in his place by someone-- finally --but Kurt really had a vicious hatred for GNR when Axl was initially a huge fan who only wanted to help Nirvana as a fellow Geffen-label band. I know Axl always talked a lot about feeling very suicidal himself during the height of his fame in 1990-91, like Kurt eventually succumbed to, but Axl's situation always felt different. Like, Axl always seemed more built for carrying the mantle of 'rock star' on his shoulders whereas Kurt was completely crushed by it. Axl relished in the limelight. Axl's issues were completely confined to his troubled childhood, and not the pressures of fame, fortune, and the expectations to always produce increasingly brilliant art the way Kurt now was. Axl just got so big & powerful that no one dared step in and rein him in when it was most needed. Kurt's demise was due to him not being capable of enduring the status of 'rock star'. Axl's demise was a result of him abusing the status of 'rock star'.
I think both of them misunderstood each other Kurt didn’t realize Axl was just trying to help and Axl didn’t realize Kurt didn’t want anything to do with big corporate bands both of them were very different yet very similar and if they had actually taken time to get to know each other and see the others viewpoint they may of actually been friends
A thing that not a lot of people seem to take into consideratuon is that nirvana turned into exactly what they supossidly hated coprate mainstream Rock so really what kurt was saying was irrelevant I’m not saying he didn’t have any good points to what he said it because there’s a lot I dint like about gnr but there’s stuff I do like so it’s all abit confusing
Ok, having lived thru it (I was 22 in 1992) I can tell you that we listened to both bands, and the feud between them didn't matter. Of course, this was before every damn thing was immediately available via social media.
wow that was real comprehensive there was so much more I didn't know, I was at that Toronto 92 show I remember Axl telling the stage hands not to put out the fire and that hat (thought it was a shirt) was on fire throughout November rain, it was so cool that Duff and Krist became friends The Foo Fighters were sort of holding that Rock N Roll torch for the longest time until Guns N Roses could get the band back together
Axl didn't like the corporate rock landscape GnR was born into in the mid '80's, but felt he could rebel from within and signed with the next best pre-alternative label - Geffen. Kurt wasn't burdened by that paradigm in the least - he only knew he did not want Nirvana to sound like or repeat GnR's path by '90-1.
With the comment at 5:29, I thought that Kurt declined Axl's request to even see him backstage, but then again, Courtney isn't the most honest person since she said Dave Grohl tried to pursue Frances as an adult and Frances herself debunked that rumor 😒
I think dave grohl is the classist rocker out there today. Hes been giving himself to all of us for 30 plus years. He has done so much for the older bands then anyone. Keeping them alive and relevant. I was just talking to my 6 year old grandson and 7 year old granddaughter this week about rock and roll explaining the differences between motley cruel, ac/dc nirvana, motor head and foo fighters. I think that's what's gonna keep Rock in roll around and relevant today ,tomorrow, and 50 years from now
It's interesting that Slash has come out in recent interviews naming the Foo Fighters as a band he enjoys listening to. But Dave Grohl is so likable, I'm not surprised.
Love both bands but Nirvana doesn’t hold a candle to GNR in terms of success and fans. GNR sold millions of more records and had like 10x more hit songs. They even have like 800+ million more views on TH-cam and streams on Spotify and Apple Music. There’s really no comparison
Julio Ernesto Moreta Castillo which we’re barely significant to music. nirvana was way more important to music. gnr was just like every other sexist band
It's funny how they make fun of GnR for being "establishment corporate rock" when only a few years later Krist Novoselic would go into politics which is literally....the ESTABLISHMENT and Dave Grohl would start one of the most polished radio friendly bands on the planet
I think Axl and Kurt would be friends now if Kurt is till alive, they probably realise the past was juz banter, sadly Kurt passed away and i think Axl was deeply affected by it, who knows...
Nirvana did the old trick of the new kid walking into school, finding the toughest, coolest kid and smacking him round the head to assert themselves. They have such a mutual fan base - most every rock fan has been through a nirvana phase and a GNR phase. Duffs book is interesting - coming from punk rock Seattle he had a lot of ties to the alt scene there. He said he probably would’ve ended up in one of them had he not made the move to LA (which I can believe, duffs a great musician).
Courtney Love seemed as nuts as Axl. Kurt Cobain's whole anti-etablishment vibe reminds me of some modern sjw woke dudes. Who fight against things, but fór nothing. At the same time it seems a bit hypocritical when you fight against something you benefit from.
A quote comes to mind when I think of Nirvana *"Some people say I'm a hypocrite because I've got money now. When I was poor and complained about inequality people said I was bitter, now I'm rich and I complain about inequality they say I'm a hypocrite.. I'm beginning to think they just don't want inequality on the agenda because it's a real problem that needs to be addressed"* -Russell Brand. I think Nirvana always had a anti-establishment punk ethos and it became increasingly difficult to deal with their success.. The G&R squabble is just a byproduct of that.
Nirvana signed to a major label (Geffen records), did the mtv awards, mtv unplugged and Saturday night live, only corporate rock bands do these things. Not being critical, just pointing this out.
I love ❤️ NIRVANA and Guns N’ Roses. That being said, Kurt & Krist & Dave played Axl & Roses like a piano. And I bet Slash & Duff & Matt & & Izzy & Gilby completely respects that❗️
People like Dave Grohl are awesome. I wasn't much of a Nirvana fan or Foo Fighters fan, but the Foo Fighters grew on me over time. The way he carries himself speaks volumes. Much props to him and his music.
Grohl has a weird "trance" following - i don't get what you all see in him. He's intensely mediocre. White hot medium. 😐 I don't hate him, he's not a complete ass, like Cobain was (what a fkn self absorbed, pretentious twat that ¢μnt was!🙄) - he's just not talented like the phenomenal GnR were. 🤷♂️
Gotta say, I am a huge fan of both bands - and man, Axl spoke some mega truth - well said. Sad Kurt passed so early - they probably would have had a chance to make amends, Kurt probably would have apologized eventually, once he escaped Courtney's influence...Both bands rocked their decades like no other.
I like both bands but for Kurt to call them talentless is just ridiculous, he certainly couldn't sing like axl, and he certainly could play like slash so.............
@Guns N' Roses Central - I _know,_ I'm late to the party here. I just _have_ to say, Thank you. Man, you put a shit load of work into your videos! Digging up the vocal clips alone must have taken weeks if not longer. You edited beautifully too. 🤗
No the fuck it ain't, lmaooooo.. AFD sounds like an 80's rock album.. where as Nevermind sounds timeless. It didn't sound like anything you were listening to in that time in the mainstream. Sorry bud but totally disagree with your point of view on this topic.
Before seeing this video, I always thought Axel was the instigator for this feud because of his ego. GNR members are actually quite nice especially Duff. Love to see both bands reconcile after Kurt's death I love both bands and hope both can come together and record some materials in the future
it's gr8 that they are friends now. no more drama from any rock, metal & alternative bands. the only drama we see now are pop artis & hiphop/rap artis, actors too. long live rock&roll!! love & peace.
I think Kurt had every bit as much of an ego as Axl, GN’R were the top of the tree & were a target for ambitious Nirvana. It’s clear that being anti-corporate was a pose, a throwback to the same pose put on by punk bands. Nirvana were happy to play the game & make millions of dollars, undeniable. So it was purely Nirvana being competitive, that’s all it was.
Brings it all back, makes me feel old, fuck I am! Loved Guns and Nirvana and remember the switch to grunge but even as Guns became less cool I could not join in the trend: they both rocked. Maybe Guns will do again.

He made jokes about it saying in an interveiw oh no were selling out but really even after sighing he still thought doing music for the money and fame was bullshit, his main problem was that axle rose sexulised wemen, kurt hated that shit
They were talking crap of what G n R is and your trying to be the same as them. ( about the money).
Rage against the machine comes to mind. 🤣🤣
So Eugene, you're saying that you're willing to work for free?
Strangely, Axl was making a lot of sense at first...even tho I love Nirvana, not so much GnR, I have to side with Axl.
I agree. Kurt should've kept his mouth shut and not been such an asshole
Calling guns n' roses untalented is such a bold statement, I mean, the guys didn't had jack shit, they came out of nowhere and still managed to pull out one heck of an album... I think that requires some talent or a form of passion.
(I really love both of them btw)
I agree I love Kurt but that was wrong and there's things like that I don't like about Kurt. But he's dead, I'll let him rest in peace
What a brave cool dude who jumped up on stage and told Kurt and his followers what's up. Too bad Kurt always judged Axl.
😂
Ya that's why he is ass hole as True words said By Kurt COBAIN in MTV awards
Nah m8 metallica is the greatest band on earth at least from 1983 to 1991.
I can't believe Kurt had the audacity to say GnR was talentless. Even if you're not a fan of their music, they are far from talentless.
It's annoying when your two fav bands hate eachother lol, thanks for the video, Sid!
johnpickk agreed! Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it
The hatchet was Kurt....
j
I like nirvana but its annoying for me with motley crue and gnr
johnpickk I agree 100% brother.
Funny that Nirvana said GNR was corporate rock considering how much Geffen paid MTV to hype "Smells like Teen Spirit" and Nirvana themselves.
and whined that David Geffen wouldn't buy him a guitar.
Dirt Dingess he didn't whine about it, all he said was "he wouldn't do it". It was Leadbelly's guitar, Kurt's favorite performer.
dylan Oh, he had one favorite performer? Thats news to me. Up until now i thought he only had things and people that he hated or didnt like. You know like a 14y old girl?
Yup..lol
I wish I had a Kurt and an Axel being jerks to each other today, at least music would still be fun and awesome.
well said
Nice episode as always.
And I bet she didn't play the solo....
You dont ask one of the biggest bands in the world to play your freaking birthday party lol
JezBollah 667 kurt cobain was the douche!? KURT?!?!?!? funny, because Axl is the biggest fucking douche in all of music history😂 Kurt respected everyone who was a good person. He wasn’t a sexist, racist, or homophobe like Axl
Axl and Cobain are the perfect example of “never meet your favorite musicians/athletes”
I like The Beatles, but i hate Paul McCartney
*THEN WHY DID NIRVANA PLAY WITH HIM?*
@@MozillaFireFox1967 probably meant Lennon seeing as how he was a wife beater

No he didn't, fuck off.
when did he say those things?
Axl and Kurt were both brilliant. While Axl was the epitome of the larger than life rock star, Kurt Cobain was the anti-rockstar, the dignified redeemer of rock music. It’s obvious that Axl felt hurt by what Kurt said about him. I wish they would have met before Kurt’s passing and made up.
Yep, they both still had important lessons to learn. And move on and laugh at the absurdity.
Redeemer? Hey kids if your dreams come true blow your brains out.
I highly doubt this seeimg how Kurt was and Axl is one of the biggest assholes in rock. I like both bands.
The Foo Fighterz are doing a show in Tulsa, Oklahoma tonight. So last night, Dave Grohl performed with GnR playing Paradise City. That was cool to see.
I was there. Definitely happened. Tulsa, OK 2018
Nice
He just misunderstood axl. He judged axl without knowing his real backstory. To be honest, they came from the same chaos. I guess kurt was being a social justice warrior for no reason against axl. Axl was also messed up by his childhood. If only kurt had the guts to talk to Axl personally.
And yes Kurt should’ve talked to axl personally
@@estebanceja9473 I think they would have ended their beef eventually had Kurt still been alive. But I do believe Kurt's death affected Axl, and may have contributed to Axl becoming a hermit in the mid to late 90's.
@@VicM-xc9zb Your first statement is most likely true. Kurt sat next to Duff McKagan on an airplane on his way back to Seattle and the two talked a bit. Maybe sometime during the mid-90's Kurt would've buried the hatchet with them, but by then GnR was essentially gone anyway so I don't know who would've really cared.
@Fidel...yeah right Axl the poor misunderstood tortured genius...gimme a fuckin break already.
Well said!!!!! ❤
Feel like a lot of people in these comments are missing the point
Well can you elaborate then?
Please tell me the point
I agree, what is your version of the point per say. Everyone has opinions is the point
@Sergio Balaguera of course it ended when Kurt Cobain died. No one's going to talk shit about a dead man. Not even Axl.
@Sergio Balaguera also, why do we only have to talk about "the point"?
Damn, I love G'n'R and Nirvana equally. I knew there was a fued back in the day for some reason but this video was really good and informative. Thanks
I love Axl's straight Indiana accent. You gotta love it.
Speaking as a Hoosier living in Texas (Military) I agree
Its funny how people here an accent from Indiana people. I have lived most of my life about 30 miles north of where axls childhood home is. I lived in Illinois ( about 35-40 miles ), to the east of where I live and where axl grew up. When I was in illinois everyone thought I sounded like I lived way out in the sticks. Like I was from down south, Kentucky or Tennessee. Ive just never noticed it myself.
No you don't
I used to have a strong accent when I was younger, but I lost it for some reason. Sometimes I slip it out once in awhile.
I don’t have an accent unless I leave Long Island.🤣 I sometimes try to shut off my accent. But it just slips out
Why can’t we just love both bands? GNR and Nirvana are both incredible bands.
I agree. They were both great and I try to remember they were all young and messed up on substances. Live and let die
The onstage talk sounds like something out of professional wrestling.
Axl basically invented Twitter on stage with his rants,so random, angry funny wilhich is 99% of tweets
Axl was spot on
Pic of axl wearing a Nirvana hat and a Chilli Peppers shirt just shows how humble he is.
He’s well aware of his place beneath great bands of his time.
just cause he likes a band doesn't mean he is humble
Wtf? Maybe he was just showing love and being supportive of other bands. GnR was much bigger then those bands at the time.
Did you imply that the Chilli Peppers are bigger than G'n'R? Lol, in what universe.
Ya when I think of Axl Rose, Humble is not the first thing that comes to mind....
Pretty sure "humble" and "Axl Rose" don't belong together in the same sentence.
I really wish Kurt had gone to Duffs' house that night after the flight.
He was such a try hard that he blow his brains out.
Exactly I’m not a fan really of either man, I got my issues with “asshole” rose as well but when someone wants to help you out and there’s no beef between people, it’s really a dick move to start bashing the person and call their band untalented and go on to further attack them

honestly I thought they made good music too.. and then I graduated middle school :/

Well no, if you're a Nirvana fan then you should respect the fact that Kurt had some ethical concerns, mainly Axl's treatment of women. I do love both bands, but Axl had no place threatening Kurt when he's holding a child and telling Courtney that she should know her place and be kept in line.
funny to see how Dave Grole (sp) sold out like GnR was. Something Kirt said he hated... irony
Dude, where do you find this stuff? I've been following this band since day one and you come up with episode after episode of stuff I've never heard of before. And back it all up with the original footage. Awesome work, dude!
Both bands are in my top 20, and I was lucky enough to see both live in their primes. Having said that, Kurt had a better sense of humor than Axl.

Nope, read the Incesticide liner notes.
Omg u serious it really existed a "Courtney Love Plan"??
I agree!!!!!!!!! ❤
Can you provide a link for us? i can't seem to find it. :(
Everyone seems to praise Kurt here, truth is. Kurt was really being very disrepectful to GNR or Axl at the beginning. So he should have just kept his mouth shut. And if someone is dead, that doesnt make him a legend. Just my thought.
dead or not, kurt cobain would be considered a legend no matter what
Axl and Kurt are two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT humans. Physically and emotionally. If only Axl hadn’t had that ego
Kurt wouldn’t have ever kept his mouth shut. Bc that’s not punk rock now is it?
thanks a lot for the video! I had no idea most of that stuff even happened, good to hear the full story

Izzy Stradlin isn't talented? That's the heroin talking
Austin Carter You couldn’t be more wrong. Izzy is a great musician with a lot of talent, he’s a damn good song writer too.
Ever thought that both talking crap about each other is a way of bad publicity.
And is still publicity.
I love Nirvana but Kurts "oh yeah, i dont want success blah blah" talk is such transparent bollocks
David Lockwood it was a marketing angle sold to the youth , like all the big acts .

It was very odd hearing that back then...it’s just tiresome now when you hear that rot.
The amount of shit I used to give Axl, I’m proud that he’s a more better person today. He’s matured.

Key thing is Nirvana took shots at every band. Before they made it big, Kurt took shots at Mother Love Bone/Pearl Jam.

More like Axl would not come.
I Like both but i prefer Nirvana
With the comment at 5:29, I thought that Kurt declined Axl's request to even see him backstage, but then again, Courtney isn't the most honest person since she said Dave Grohl tried to pursue Frances as an adult and Frances herself debunked that rumor 😒
I think dave grohl is the classist rocker out there today. Hes been giving himself to all of us for 30 plus years. He has done so much for the older bands then anyone.

Nirvana was just sad music I got into them for a bit but eventually wanted to smile again...GnR has always been a great band
Nirvana signed to a major label (Geffen records), did the mtv awards, mtv unplugged and Saturday night live, only corporate rock bands do these things. Not being critical, just pointing this out.
So true and Grohl went as corporate sell out as it gets.
I feel like it's my two good friends getting into a fight with each other.

Appetite for destruction is an amazing album and has stood the test of time. Nevermind was good too. But appetite is the winner
Paddy Pup agreed
Nope
....but Bleech is better than Nevermind!
You're wrong but that's okay, it's just your corny ass opinion.
No the fuck it ain't, lmaooooo.. AFD sounds like an 80's rock album.. where as Nevermind sounds timeless. It didn't sound like anything you were listening to in that time in the mainstream. Sorry bud but totally disagree with your point of view on this topic.
That Kurt Cobain.
Always shooting his mouth off.
Bruh 😂
Love your channel btw
Haha how bizarre to see you commenting here you maniac. Will we see a Nirvana history vid soon haha
i just know i love the Nirvana and GNR Music. they were just Rock stars that thought they had something to say.
There are no limits you can be a fan of whatever whenever you want. Don't let anyone tell you what to like or do
Before seeing this video, I always thought Axel was the instigator for this feud because of his ego. GNR members are actually quite nice especially Duff. Love to see both bands reconcile after Kurt's death
I love both bands and hope both can come together and record some materials in the future
it's gr8 that they are friends now. no more drama from any rock, metal & alternative bands. the only drama we see now
are pop artis & hiphop/rap artis, actors too. long live rock&roll!! love & peace.
Why is this feud in “who’s better” still going in between the fan bases 26 years later?
Because Kurt IS and theyre not getting it. Damn, thats why. 😂
Gnr untalented? Yeah right, I've always hated that sad Seattle grunge bullshit
Brings it all back, makes me feel old, fuck I am! Loved Guns and Nirvana and remember the switch to grunge but even as Guns became less cool I could not join in the trend: they both rocked. Maybe Guns will do again.
Great research and presentation!
thanks Leon!
"It's Nirvanna, it's a Nirvanna hat". Lol Canadas finest G n' R fans. The problem for both of these guys is, a lot of their fans liked each others bands. I wasn't one but just sayin. That's why half of these taunts are met with quiet or minimal cheers. They're looking around going well I like them both
i do see axl’s problems with kurt and their differences but what axl said about kurt’s ‘junkie’ lifestyle and about how his baby will end up in prison is completely out of order and unacceptable because kurt had a lot of troubles dealing with himself let alone being a famous rockstar and so it was especially harsh towards kurt but kurt also said things which could’ve been very hurtful towards axl too
Courtney Hole was the biggest problem that led to the feud. Axel and Courtney are the both Prima Donnas!
It's funny how kurt calls guns n roses untalented. Axl has one of the world's widest vocsl ranges and slash is an amzing guitarist. Even their drummer (Dave grohl) was a better guitarist than kurt!
Jackson Chambers and a better vocalist at that. Lmao. Kurt was ok though.
Nirvana wasn’t about being talent
And even Kurt said he wasn’t that good at guitar
He just made music cause he liked doing it...
Axl worlds greates vocal range? That was just so funny. That red headed fat fuck can't sing!!!
@@coyleigh2860 "red headed fatfuck" 😂😂😂
Dude Kurt cobain was a talented song writer plus grunge isn't about sounding good it's about doing what you love it's basically punk from seattle
Honestly axl was this macho aggressive dude. I can't imagine I'd want to tour with them either.
Kurt was a walking contradiction in many ways.
Damon Willis I agree 100%
@Goggle products not this shit again
IKR, like wtf did I just read?
Damon Willis Yeah, he was a typical hypocrite.
I was at the show at Compton Terrace Jan 31st. Soundgarden opened, 3 1/2 hours later GnR hit the stage!!!
«Thats a corporate rockstar, man» --> Signed to same label 🤦♂️
Kurt described Axl perfectly in that interview
Why the fuck can't celebrities just get along, damn it
I saw GnR & Metallica in 1994 in Oakland.
Ice-T had a grunge metal band called Body Count. They opened.
Now you have Buzz Osborne pissed at Dave for being corporate rock
Those were the days. I'm a fan of both bands like most people. Pretty funny stuff
