On tiktok I have been seining so many girls saying that some outfits don’t go with curly hair so they straighten it and they say girls that get it get it that girls that don’t don’t in reality I think every outfit goes with curly hair with your natural hair you just need to style it to go with the outfit not straighten it

Thank you for sharing these sentiments. I have been noticing in many movies that when the character in the movie gets her act together she always straightens her hair! Not a hood message, and wearing my curls proudly I always feel somewhat offended.
Right?! I thought we'd moved past it, but I still see it in subtle ways, and it seems like it's creeping back into modern culture unfortunately!

Sometimes I feel that when they claim it’s childish, untidy, crazy or unprofessional because curly women probably come across like “untameable”, that they don’t care if they don’t “fit in” and then they are able to challenge the rules of “fitting in” 🙄 which goes against everyone looking the same way, just another brick in the wall.
That's such a great observation! It's like, they told us not to wear our hair curly back in the day, so now if you do, you look rebellious... it's crazy!

If instead of curly hair the problem was “people with blue eyes are not trustworthy” or some other stupid assumption, blue-eyes people would be forced to wear contact lenses? 🙄 Most likely not, so if being born with blue eyes is seen as something natural then the same should apply with curls, it grows that way, it comes out of your head naturally curly…I think in 2024 this type of thing shouldn’t be an issues, I would think by now we should know better, but it’s still used against us.
Edited to add: although I wouldn’t put it past “them” to also pick on another natural element of a human being to weaponise it against them 🙄

Where I grew up, everyone has curly hair and they always wore hair extensions and straightened their hair all the time and even pressured me to do the same. I hated my curly hair for so long. A few years ago, I moved to a state where everyone has straight hair but they all ecourage me to wear my hair out and in curly hairstyles. Girls, please don't forget that you are beautiful just the way God made you.

Wow, I never thought people associated curly hair for immaturity. Well I’m wearing my hair curly then if it makes me look younger. I used to wear my hair straight all the time and my hair started to look unhealthy and thin. I love how my hair is now healthy and fuller when it’s curly. Great video ❤
Haha yep, I've gotten to the age where I like looking a little more youthful every now and then 🤣 and healthy, full hair is always going to look much better than damaged hair x

Great video. You covered everything I was thinking about on this subject. People in the West still hold White European standards of beauty. This comment ”I look childish” to me says I want a straighter European look to fit the norm. The curly hair movement was not embraced by everyone. A lot of girls just don’t like their hair in its natural state. They prefer to straighten, wear units or braids. You get judged no matter what you do in life. The older I get the less I care what people think.
Yes!! It's almost like saying 'ugh, why don't you just grow up and straighten your hair so you can fit in'! I actually had more to say but I cut it out because the video was too long, maybe I'll make a part 2!
It never looks childish. That is a person's personal opinion and not a thing. I like how it all looks - as long as it is clean and not matted down like cut it off looking.

I always see people with straight hair do it but I think spray some water first, which will ruin our straightened hair.

It’s funny because for me I think my curly hair makes me look older and straight or blown out hair makes me look younger. It may be because of my grey in the front and how much my hair shrinks up when curly. I wear it many ways though but if I’m trying to look youthful on purpose I straighten my hair.

Clicked so fast because tbh I look like a child with curly hair and I’ve been wanting a rebranding for myself and I’m considering going back to straight hair. I was even told so by an image consultant (I asked what style suited me more).
No way!! The image consultant did you dirty imo! The way society resorts to saying curly hair looks childish because they don't want to spend the time learning about curly hair and how to make it work for different face shapes and personalities 😭 I hope this video can help! X
Hahaha haven’t finished the vid yet, just going on my lunch break and will finish it.
BUT I did ask her to be fair. I do come from a society where we idolize straight hair tho we’re mostly mixed and have African roots. And she wasn’t going to say anything (it was more about colors and shapes for clothes) and I asked her about my hair and glasses. She said she doesn’t usually touch on that topic because it’s something very personal. But that because my face is more roundish, it suited me to have less volume.
Also, my hairs been acting crazy and falling (health reasons- I’ve lost lots of length) which adds more volume to my hair and I feel like I look like Dora the explorer 😂😭. I felt better about it when my hair was longer and I had less volume around my face… I’m excited to see what you say about the topic. Much love ❤️

Wow, I cannot believe how completely true this is. I started wearing my hair blown out straight when I went into Junior High School. But I always loved my curls prior to puberty. Thankfully I resumed wearing my hair straight in my late 20’s. I’m in my 50’s now, I’m so glad I wear my hair curly. ❤
