This endure race is probably the most aggravating, and as a result, hardest, at least in my experience. The rubberband is relentless. It isn't assigned to a particular car either, but rather first/second place. You could have put the S2000 into a wall, the moment he falls down to third stop, the now second car would shoot up into your tail regardless whether he was 5 seconds or 10 seconds away.
If you don't overtake just one of the opponents in the first lap you're done, even if they crash at the tunnel or slipping after the left shortcut just after the racing line, they're gonna catch up within a lap. Hard or Easy mode there doesn't really matter, maybe in Hard mode they're hitting you more often in corners. It also depends which unique performance upgrades you choose, if you have turbo and transmission, it will makes them catching much faster than with the other parts. Recommended parts for this race are engine, ecu, and nos or weight reduction kits (your choice both are good). I know it's a speedrun so you're not installing the newest parts, but stage 3 kits (front bumpers, rear bumpers and side skirts) give you more grip and downforce so they won't lose control much easily like with stage 1 kits. Stability control gives you a bit worse handling and it doesn't save your car when it slips out so it's better turned it on. At 4:00 where you lose position it's better slow down just a bit because they're always overtake there so if you block their path or just touch their cars, they'll slow down. If you're still struggling with this race, just install stock transmission or even turbo aswell. Oh and use manual transmisson, it's faster because all cars have high RPM end so they accelerating faster in the red line while automatic shifts before that so it's a bit slower.
Nope they don't help for extra grip nor downforce... In Pro Street they added that, but not in the older versions, because they are called: Visual upgrades and they didn't get no wind tunnel what so ever, The game is so old that they didn't have that tech back in the day!
nfs2se3hp4hs8u2 is a big dude in the youtube nfs community and he is famous for knowing details like this. i haven't played the game in a very long time, but there is a chance he is right- in nfs u2 body parts let you adjust aerodynamics settings of the car, so it is possible the early version of this feature was implemented in u1 with the part level being the setting
John Scarce I have played my fair share of underground 1 and as far as I know this never helped any bit. Since I do remember my mate saying this back in the day and I laughed at him. He put all the stuff on and still ran the same time. It could be true but I highly doubt it. And true that U2 had it in the tune settings. It could be that you think it helps and it helps the person drive better. Kind of like csgo skins. They don't do damage but they look nice so people tend do play better. Like I said as far as I know and experience it doesn't but it might :)
This game starts to get on my nerves around event 80. That's when the rubber band actually starts working. You can SEE the enemy cars doing impossible turns right in front of you, and making them hit walls or traffics only mitigate the problem if you're still far away from the finish line. I've never beat this game back in the day, but I'm trying right now and it's comically unbelievable what the AI do on the late game.

The reason why the rubberband is occuring is due to 4th place being 20+ seconds behind. Therefor the game does not differentiate between positions of racers, and all 3 opponents are getting rubberbanded. However the S2000 is one of the better handling cars and can 'take' the additional benefits.

In this race, Matt and Brett are obviously toying with us. And they always quickly come back cuz they using a nitro too. I figured out how these OP AI are programmed: They will never drive at maximum speed and the perfectly best driving without making one single mistake. No, they drive on the way to maintain their speed to yours, not too slowly and not too fast besides the fact that they can do it. When the game goes too crazy, they finish a race without touching the walls or hiting something through all 7 laps driving totally perfect a whole time at high speed and with no mistake, trust me, I saw that many many times, but mostly, they drive in some kind of chill mode like they're toying with us all the time just by keeping their speed equal to our speed. And as much as fast or slow you are, they're also, so, if you drive the best as you can and keep maintaining high speed through all laps, they simply follow your speed and they're always close to you, but if you got crashed or slow down, they will slow down too and let you to catch them up again. Amy and Jarrus are trully hard AI bots, but not too OP like Matt and Brett. Their cars Honda and Mazda are obviously too maxed because when they're using a nitro, they literally flying through the streets and corners and always catch you in just a few seconds, not to mantion that they drive with 200+ km/h through corners when a game becomes too crazy to play and all of that with no driving mistake, hitting the walls or getting crashed. Guess that a name "Enduro" is maybe a hidden refference to a "endless durability" because it describes this race perfectly well where you literally have to be in God mode and drive perfectly well at high speed without making one single mistake.
When it does pass limit, it pass HARD. Way better handling than players are allowed, way better top speed and acceleration than players are allowed, even on Easy difficult. You're 2nd place? Stay 2nd place!
When AI in underground have Rx7, Skyline or S2000, they can be the hardest ones to beat. I think it's the amount of grip the car already have and amplified with AI cheats.

You need to buy the secret NOS stickers and put them on your car. Thats why its going so fast. Those NOS stickers are designed to manipulate the opposing air pressure and reverse it, giving you INSANE speed.
I had a Supra rubberband so hard it got stuck in the road and went from 260 km/h to 0 in an instant in front of me. The game send me flying in the sky as if I hit an immovable object at the speed of light.
This race and the one against Kurt with his new ride (his white RX-7, a red RX-7 with a body kit and a different S2000) were the absolute worst in career mode
There's a race in this game which is freaking 6 laps long. I fully upgraded my RX-7 as much as possible, even installed Junkman parts, only to be overtaken by a hideous little Peugeot 206 when I was doing like 205 mph. The rubberbanding is insane in this game.
I remember now. This was the point in time when I stopped playing Underground 1 when I was a kid, long long ago. The enemies are too tough because of these rubberbanding (which ofc I didn't understaand at the time), and the number of laps don't help with my frustrations I just gave up finishing this game.

Matt everytime was like fkn Shumaher! This race with 7 laps is the most difficult race in the game(in my opinion), because Matt, with his fkn S2000 everytime ride like a bullet! How much nerves was spend on this race, when I was 7 or 8 years old... Idk... So many memories... But sometimes he was a normal.. 1/100 :D
hardest race in the game indeed, but I know a secret about how to beat it easily: use a stock Skyline, if you use a car with no upgrades the opponents will also drive cars with stock parts, and since the Skyline is the fastest car in the game when stock, it will be much easier to win this race.

Bruh, literally 2 days ago I defeated that on hard at 2nd attempt by blocking Matt right at the end, winning by 0.08 and doing 46' in most laps (meanwhile, Matt did 42😬)
I understand this is a speedrun but it's easier to block the AI using the Skyline, 206 or Integra. For your next Nfsug1 speedrun I'd suggest giving the 206 a try and tell me what you think.

the main mistakes every user does is choosing a unique transmission, when you choose it, then each opponent car has it, and like every single race straight after 1vs1 against Samantha turns into rubberbanding shit
On my end, it was the WU 350Z that tried to do that, but I ultimately won after tactically wiping them out a couple times during my second attempt of staying ahead.

This race is absolute pain, I found myself having to block everyone from passing me because once they get in front of you it´s game over, you´ll never catch them because of the rubberband
Bruh, literally 2 days ago I defeated that on hard at 2nd attempt by blocking Matt right at the end, winning by 0.08 and doing 46' in most laps (meanwhile, Matt did 42😬)
I understand this is a speedrun but it's easier to block the AI using the Skyline, 206 or Integra. For your next Nfsug1 speedrun I'd suggest giving the 206 a try and tell me what you think.

the main mistakes every user does is choosing a unique transmission, when you choose it, then each opponent car has it, and like every single race straight after 1vs1 against Samantha turns into rubberbanding shit
On my end, it was the WU 350Z that tried to do that, but I ultimately won after tactically wiping them out a couple times during my second attempt of staying ahead.
