    If I could steal one thing from you Aidan it'd be the sound of your articulation. I like it a lot, and I hear it through every instrument you play.

      Thanks man! Been working on that aspect a lot, specifically.

    I have never played a Kanstul bass trumpet but I have 2 bass trumpets ! 1. The Bach B188 bass trumpet ( they are still in production in Elkhart, Indiana ) the mouthpiece that comes with the instrument is the Vincent Bach 12C. The second bass trumpet is the Eterna Getzen Bass trumpet. It is a beautiful sounding horn with great intonation! ! The best out of the 2!! This horn came up with a Getzen 61/2 AL mouthpiece!! Unfortunately, Getzen doesn't make it anymore!! Thanks for sharing the information! 👍 👍

    Cool video. Thanks! Had no idea there were bass trumpets in keys other than B-flat.

    Trumpets in 6ft F were also used historically as soprano instruments, in a way being the last hurrah of the long baroque trumpet. These instruments became increasingly rare after about 1900, giving way to the modern instruments in Bb which had been developed from the cornet.

      Yup! Thankfully not anymore though haha

    Thank you saying it would be good for jazz! This is something I’ve been thinking about trying. My dream though is to find one of those Eb alto/bass trumpets. No luck yet. (I’m not buying a Schiller.)

      Yup, I know a few people that have used them for that!

    Como la que usó Willie Colón en los últimos años de la década del 70 y principios de la década de 1980, incluso en discos de estudio. 👂📻🎵🎤✍️

    Odd question - it seems apropos that you posted this video today. I'm working on a virtual wind ensemble currently, and I just found out this afternoon that my bass trumpet player has had to back out. Would you be interested in participating?

    • @AidanRitchie
      @AidanRitchie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Perhaps- I'm actually strangely busy the next two weeks, and I'll be returning the horn at the end of that!

    The other main tunning slide is for playing the whole instruments in the key of A, but you have to have the main tunning slide all out and the other out too

    • @AidanRitchie
      @AidanRitchie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On the bass trumpet? It's for tuning sharp notes. You could easily just pull out the main tuning slide to A, but it would be pretty pointless!

    So would the marching baritone kind of equate to a bass flugelhorn/cornet?

    • @AidanRitchie
      @AidanRitchie  ปีที่แล้ว

      There are real bass flugelhorns, usually used in German brass band. Marching baritone (which also comes in several flavors) is its own thing.

    Does it have fake tones between pedal Bb and low E? If it does, what is the fingerings? My guess is that it has low Gb fake tone, just as a trombone, so Low C is 123 and low Eb is 12 or 3.

    Where can I go to find a reasonably priced bass trumpet? What was the brand you liked better than the kanstul? Lache? Never heard of it, wessex brass has some for preorder and their stuff is decent for budget but I love low brass and trumpet standard mouthpiece is so tiny for me I don't have enough time to dedicate a year or 2 to get it down. Anyone got any leads for reputable sellers?

    • @AidanRitchie
      @AidanRitchie  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Wessex is OK, nothing to write home about, but there really aren't any good cheap options out there.

      @@AidanRitchie yeah, the intonation on a euph I played from them was decent and I was happy with it compared to a 4k Bach or shires. Do you have any places you like to buy instruments from?

    Trombone literally means "big tromba." Jessayin...

    • @AidanRitchie
      @AidanRitchie  ปีที่แล้ว

      Or does tromba mean small trombone? Next time on the Twilight Zone!

    • @shawncharton9416
      @shawncharton9416 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AidanRitchie lol, except nope because Italian. " -one" is the Italian version of what we might call "-zilla" (we don't really have an English equivalient but we DO have English equivalents for making things "little" like Edie means "little Edith." Eddie means "little Edward."
      Small trombone (in Italian) would be "trombonino." This is specifically "Tromba-zilla." Lol

  • @jsaavedr1

    So it's a trombone with valves.
