It is a very poorly orchid and there is one foot out the door... I am holding on to the foot that has not left yet 😂 thank you so much for watching, Robert! I hope that your Friday is amazing 🤗😘🌸

    A Zygo video? For me? Louisendorf is a wonderful hybrid, but that one looks a bit sad, the new growth looks like the center rotted, which can be good or bad. Assuming the rot stopped, it probably won't grow roots or a bulb from that growth but the eyes at the base should be viable and will activate in short order.
    I must say you did an excellent job talking about what to do with it when you bring it home. I've noticed they seem to be coming back into favor these past couple of years and more people seem to be having success with them. My Artur Elle buds started popping today and Zns Cynosure 'Dove of Peace' is spiking again. Now if those stinking Kiwi Korker would be so kind as to spike, I would be happy.

      Don Miguel 🥰💐 hola jefe!! This Zygo video ... it is for you, but you don't actually need it 😂😘 It was the only one there, and even if there was a better one next to it, this one had to come with me because of it's state! You are right about the new growth, when I peeled back the sheath after filming, there is a black area, which I wanted to photograph after this video aired and put it up on a community post. I can feel that, either there is a tiny start of a bulb, or there is nothing at all and all I am feeling is the bulk of the structures at the base. Too soon to tell. But, yes, the new growth is a little compromised and will pose some challenges. I think that the success of growing them has something to do with you? Wouldn't you say?😉 I have not been around long enough to know 😬 I love the color on this hybrid, and the blooms are large as well. So, we shall see how she does. It will be a long time before I repot her, that is for sure. Well, I hope that your Kiwi Korker does end up spiking, because... with a name like that, ... it would be awkward if it turned out to be a dud 😅 thank you so much for watching, Michael! Thank you for your feedback! So very much appreciated ❤️ bedtime! Well, at least for me! The sheep are congregating upstairs... I will have my work cut out for me to get rid of them 🤣

But, she stands a slightly better chance home with me, than in that garden centre (torture chamber) that she was in, so 🤞🏼 I hope that you are having a wonderful Friday, 🌸🥷🏼 super sunny here, and no wind... 🦒💐💖 Simple but important guidelines 👌 Lovely blooms and the plant looks very nice, no spots on the leaves !!! Great find, not easy to find them at the local stores. I looked for more at my orchid supplier and they had plenty but none was in bloom and no Id, just Zygo mix 🙁 , too much of a risk to get a similar one to the ones I already have. Space is precious even outdoors where I grow mine all year round 😉 Happy sunny friday on your patios, amiga mia💖😍🙌🤗 Enjoy your day !!!!

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      FFF 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🥰💐 good evening, meine liebe Freundin! No spots on the leaves, yet! 😅 they will come IF the orchid survives. There is a suspicious blackness on the growth that is blooming, but, I am going to monitor what the back bulbs do before I cut off the spikes. The growth itself, I doubt stands a chance... it looks terrible. Still, this orchid has a higher chance of survival with me, than left on the bench at the garden centre. Its a risk I am willing to take. 🤞🏼 the risk is high to repeat purchase if there are not specifics on the tag. Strange that they think they will be able to sell them before they bloom again. Space is indeed precious 😬 Thank you so much for watching, and your encouraging comment, amiga! It was another good day on the patio, and now I am walking King at night, because I think the terrain is too hot for him, being so close to the ground. Even though it is not hot yet, the temperatures down there, where he is at are a totally different story. At least I can film longer... if there is not wind 😅 hope your day was beautiful and that you found lots of nice surprises! ❤️🌸

    A lot of orchids you buy in supermarkets or other stores are usually wrapped in plastic which makes the decision that more difficult because you can't pinch and feel 😁

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Ynse 🤗💐 that is true too, yes! Those plastic wrappers... to protect the orchid from any damage, or to stop us from inspecting? 😅 I bet it is the latter, just because the wholesalers know that if we could inspect more closely, many people probably would not buy them 😬 hate the plastic stuff, I am glad that most garden centres here remove it. This orchid should not have been bought, it is in a pathetic state, but... I am a sucker for a challenge 😅 thank you so much for watching, Ynse! Have a great Friday 🌸

      HI Andrea 😍💐 yes... I have that here as well, and even in our garden centres, if we go around digging and scrutinizing too much, people look at me as if I am about to ruin their orchids. Well, their orchids are already ruined, so... it is very rare that I get to check an orchid out that I want to buy. This one is in bad shape, but, we have to try. It would have died in the garden centre, so, having it here gives it a little more chance (I hope!) 😅 thank you so much for watching, Andrea, I really appreciate your time! Hi, Nina! Thank you for this excellent and informative video. I bought a Zygopetalum Louisendorf about a month ago. I was away for about two weeks and found it horribly stressed. I think it did not get enough water. It lost its leaves! I have a new growth now, and I do not like the media it is in, but should wait untill it grows new roots. I am so hoping to recover it, as its blooms are very pretty and fragant!
    Happy growing!🌸

      😍 Hi Monica 💐 thank YOU so much for watching! If you already have new growths starting, the roots will not be far behind, so give it another couple of weeks and then repot. Luckily this hybrid is not one that we have to wait for a long time for it to grow new roots 👍🏼 I am sure that your's will recover as soon as it get those new roots and rehydrates all the structures Thankfully it is not as hard to get to recover as a Zygonisia, one that I am struggling to get growing properly despite babying it through the winter. 🙄 Happy Growing, right back at you, lovely lady! Hi Stephen 😍💐 the blooms are beautiful and I hope to see them again under my own efforts, because this orchid... well, it is very dodgy, and that is putting it mildly! 50/50 chance of survival, but I could not leave it behind, because, IF I can bring back from the brink of kicking the bucket, then I have been wanting this particular one for a long time. 🤞🏼 I understand that it is discouraging with Zygos to get them going, and before it actually happens, they take a nose dive. My original one did just that after I moved it to leca, it looked half dead, and the new growths were small and pathetic, I had no hope, but after a couple of years, it still looks ratty, but it blooms 😅 hope the same happens with this one, we shall see! Never say never, indeed 👍🏼 thank you so much for watching, Stephen! I hope your Friday was fabulous 😘🌸

      Hi Chantal 😍💐 good to see you again! I hope that you are doing well 🥰 oh, the leaves, ... might as well enjoy them while we have them, because if this one even makes it, then... it may be the same status quo as my other one, which defoliates. But, I love me the clean lush spot free zygo leaves that I see elsewhere. Light... more light, I know that it sounds so cliche, but these guys can really take a LOT of light! Also, mine took 2 years to come out of the funk and bloom reliably for me. I thought I would never get my then single Zygo to bloom, then, one year... boom, spikes! I really hope that this one behaves the same way. I will put up with 2 years of being in a funk, if after that, these blooms come back. I love them 😍 thank you so much for watching, Chantal! • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      oh.... that zygo is livin' la vida! I wonder, if, not fertilizing it for a few months after your latest growth has matured, will do the trick, because, if an orchid is happy and it's survival is not under threat, then, there is no reason for it to bloom. What do you think? Once your latest growth is mature, stop fertilizing and don't fertilize even when you see a new growth starting. Hard to do, but, it is a thought 🙃 oh... the season was whack here as well ... I am just so over it! we have not even reached 25º never mind the 30º! Even the nights, although a couple of degrees warmer, they are not what the calender says they should be. Its just so frustrating, and yes, wow... the watering hustle from one day to the next, I can only imagine. There is no gradual getting into the rhythm, its hustle time. I am being eased into more watering... 🐌🐌🐌

    Como você faz para as folhas ficarem impecáveis?
    As minhas tem manchas pretas

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oi Fátima 🤩💐 esta orquídea foi comprada recentemente, então as folhas que você vê nela vieram do viveiro, não posso levar crédito pelas folhas impecáveis. Mas, zygopetalums precisam de muita umidade e fluxo de ar para manter as folhas imaculadas. Se o clima estiver muito seco e muito quente, aparecem as manchas pretas, que estragam a aparência da orquídea, mas não são um perigo para ela. No meu clima quente e seco, os zigos não seguram nem as folhas, como fariam se as temperaturas fossem mais baixas e eu tivesse mais umidade! Espero que isso responda sua pergunta? Você pode borrifar a orquídea com água, para ajudar a aumentar a umidade, mas tome cuidado para não tê-la em contato com a luz do sol ou muito perto para cultivar luzes, ou então haverá mais manchas de um tipo diferente. Se você não puder fornecer umidade mais alta com um umidificador, uma bandeja de pedras com água pode ajudar a aumentar a umidade ao redor das folhas até certo ponto. Manter o Zygos fresco, enquanto ainda tem luz brilhante, ajuda a manter a umidade mais alta ao redor da orquídea. Espero que isso faça sentido 🤞🏼 muito obrigado por assistir, Fátima!! Tenha uma excelente tarde 🌸

      Hi RaeAnn 🤩💐 welcome! I have not seen you here before, so... a warm warm welcome and thank you so much for being here, I so very much appreciate it! 🙌🏼 th-cam.com/video/wUc41OqWohM/w-d-xo.html this is a link to a video from a year ago, when I was struggling with thrips (but thought it was something else at the time, the diagnosis was wrong) on Dendrobiums, and well, Dendrobiums hate anything industrial on their leaves and object to everything. Basically it is alcohol infused with fresh garlic. The alcohol does what it does best and kills the pests on contact, but, the garlic essential oils that stay behind after the alcohol has evaporated, act as a repellent for future attacks for at least 3 months, if not more after clearing any pests that may have taken hold. I have been using it since the video (linked) has aired, and it is the go to 'peace of mind in a bottle', nothing else in my arsenal for pest treatment anymore. I hope that you have the time to watch the video and really hope that you will try it out and end up amazed 😬 thank you so much for watching, and once again, welcome! 🌸
