Agree with him on everything except the caste and Hindu-Muslim stuff! He has a very archaic and 'media' view on the issue.
The caste issue is complex and historical. Things are improving every generation. 2 of my friends are SC/ST who married UC girls. One with consent and the other without the consent of the family. One of my Brahmin friends married an OBC girl. There is an undercurrent and things will be dramatically different at least in the cities by 2050!
Hindu-Muslim issues are here to stay!

Here uncle/guest has given some misinformation about love marriages yes there is love j!h@d and there is a slab based reward given to the mu$l1m boy if he marries a hindu/ bramin/vaishya/kshatriya girl there is a documented evidence which is available in the public, so it's natural for every parent to make his/her child aware of the traps that are laid out in the society to target a particular community to acheive their world wide goal of converting every single individual into their rel!gion, as a converted guy from his original christian background to mu$lim it definitely pains uncle/guest that why people are objecting the marriage of a h1ndu girl with a mu$lim boy.
He is also spreading misinformation about caste system that it is 4000 yrs old practice and blah blah blah there is no such system prior to the arrival of british yeah we used to have Jati/varna system which is fluid and not rigid as mentioned by him in our purana/itihasas where children born out of same parent some of them became kshatriya, some became Brahmin, some Vaishya and some Shudra based on their natural abilities, and not by the caste system. if the system is rigid this would not have happened and the caste sytem has been instilled upon us by the britishers.Just a google search about this man Sir Herbert Hope Risley who first applied the caste structure to the Indian society when he was made census commissioner in 1881 tells a lot about how it all started.
Gotras form an important part of the hindu society, people with some gotras do not marry each other. I've seen the some SC population sharing the same gotra as the Brahmin so if we go by the gotras they belong to the same family but somewhere in the time they have lost connection may be due to various reasons, adopted different food habits and customs but did not gave up their gotra, this only tells that classifying people based on the caste is the most senseless thing which was imposed on us by the britishers in order to divide and rule, the same is being followed by different political parties to use them as vote banks.

perhaps in the cities. In rural india caste based discrimination is common place. You read stories about people besting up grooms because they were riding horses, or children in schools refusing to eat midday meals because it was cooked by a Dalit women, or Dalit children being made to clean toilets in schools, or Dalit man being beaten because he entered the temple or upper caste people creating a wall to divide them and the Dalits. Caste word itself is a term from portuguese language and the word 'dalit'- was coined by so-called reformers themselves which ultimately lead to the separation of the 'untouchables' from the mainstream.... in ancient Indian society there was 'varna' system which was based on the occupation of people that is categorization of people based on occupation, it wasn't hereditary as it is today, and the most important point for all foreigners here is that the document called the constitution of India which is claimed to provide equality among all Indians is in itself a discriminatory document which divides people in four classes : general, obc, sc, st on the basis of reservation so don't put blame on 'upper caste people' and make them villains in the story because there is no 'upper class' or 'lower class' based on caste,
yes, upper class and lower class exists but on the basis of economic conditions that is how much money you have in present time, not on caste system,
if you have got wealthy enough then you can dictate rules and everything and act the way you are pleased and if you have no money then be ready to be forever suppressed and in a way oppressed all the time!! that's the rule and law here.
Politicians and so-called intellectuals just need to hide their own crimes, inability and shortcomings and put the blame on someone's head so caste system is their scapegoat so just cut the crap of debate of caste, in today's world anywhere and everywhere, including India, money is god, money is religion, money is education, food, family, mother-father everything in present day, it's a global thing,
for example, if a woman is wealthy enough and belongs from a so-called regressive state of the country, no matter what but she can buy the system and act her way out!! Caste thing and 'upper and lower class based on caste' is an idea or campaign of large number of political parties to distract people from real issues and shamelessly ask for their votes on the basis of caste! Caste thing was always a political card and in present era also remains so! Caste - Just a political card to win elections and come into power, nothing else! They just need some villain to throw all the blames on it and escape from their duty of accountability! Caste is just a jhunjhuna by politicians to distract people from real issues!
People earn/gain respect or lose it on the basis of their bank balance, power, influence, and everything, all comes from money! that's the ultimate truth!! the whole fabric of society depends on money!! so don't go on repetitive mode asking the same caste system question again and again to gain views.

The Indian system of Varna and Jaati were never hierarchical or discriminatory. Varna is purely a model of societal functional role, while jaati is professional communities, who help each other professionally, monetarily and anything else, especially in times of need. Caste is a word of Portuguese/Spanish origin, which has hierarchical and feudal class system inherrent in it. It was imported and imposed during colonial times, specifically by Lord Risley, fused into the Indian society forcibly and made rigid for political and administrative purposes. Missionaries use it as a stick or stigma stuck on India, as though it is an Indian system, for purposes of conversion. Political parties in India, use it to divide and rule, just as the colonists had done before. Caste has nothing to do with the original Sanatana Dharma or Hinduism.
The VarNa vyavastha is not a division of the society into professions, but merely a model for understanding the roles/duties/responsibilities and preferences (karma and guNa) in every society. It is not based on birth. You can find references to VarNa in the Shastras.
Jaati is birth based, we will not find references in the Shruti (Vedas), but you may find references elsewhere. However, it is not the same as caste which is of Spanish and Portuguese origin. Caste is a corruption of the concept of jaati. Jaati is never hierarchical as the western scholars would like us to believe and never discriminatory. It is a set up of communities of people belonging to similar professions to help each other out and to grow the professions for the good of the society. It is a non-competitive, cooperative arrangement. Conversions in India did not work because of strong bond with the jaati.
Hinduism survived to a large extent due to the strong bonds within each jaati and community helping each other with loans and physical help when the other person in the same community had problems. People who converted missed that and it discouraged others from converting, although others are trying to copy the strong community helping each other concept.

Caste was never such a big issue only because of the British It became an issue because they used it to divide and rule. Unfortunately, the successors of the British empire never actually abolished cast, which they should have even now. The same party called the Congress party, are still doing the same politics of cast. They are making new senses of caste in state which they are in power. That is why we need to get rid of Congress party entirely.

Correct, although the term "citizen" is sort of a misnomer, since it's more like PR than actual citizenship. It's essentially a lifetime visa which will always give you the right to live in India.

      @RomilCPatel 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

This was actually one of the major issues. For the most part OCIs are on parity with normal citizens but in times of crisis like pandemic, war etc. the Indian government puts up more restrictions.
During the pandemic there were a few months where OCI holders outside india couldn’t go back, but if you were already in India you could stay; there were also exceptions if you had a close family member in India and such.
My main issue with the OCI program is that they can add restrictions at any time, so there is a lack of permanence.

The new super caste in India is rich caste. If you are from this caste then you are loved/accepted by all. Although the caste system does exist in India it is not so vicious as described by this gentleman (although the viciousness depends upon the state or rural background of the practitioner). In rural India it is still prevalent and will take some time to go out. In middle class India it is there and comes out during the time of marriage but again if the other person is rich usually it does not matter unless in rural areas/villages (where conservatism still prevails). The thing about inter religious marriage that he was talking about is actually called the "love Jihad", which is a term coined by the sociologists to understand the concept of conning the partner for the sake of conversion into Islam by the Muslim girl or boy to earn a place in the heaven. This was more prevalent in the last few decades when the radicalism due to ISIS, etc influenced the social fabric of India. If you want to understand this then there is a movie called the Kerala Story (which is available on the net) which has bought this aspect of love Jihad in the Indian sub continent to the fore as a case study.

What he has, is an OCI card (Overseas Citizen of India). Despite the name, it is not a citizenship of India in any way. It is just a life long visa + work permit.
This was initiated way back by Vajpayee government as initial steps towards dual citizenship. Manmohan Sigh govt did little in this regard. Modi government has been slowly but actively pushing back on the idea.

When we talk about caste, why didn't he see the caste in other faiths. Are they not discriminatory? In case you are not aware, the very gentlemen's religion has 3-4 classes(Ashraf, Ajlaf, Pasmanda etc). And there is Shia and Sunnis. There is also fight between different sects. Because as per Indiian law, if rent agreement is for 12 months or more, then the rent agreement has to be registered, which means that both parties will have to hire advocate, go to registrar office near revenue department, buy stqmp paper, pay registration charges etc, and such trouble is best avoided by landlords and tenants. He is a Muslim and a French so I would give him benefit of doubt that he don't know much about the history and philosophy of caste/class system in india and he also haven't spend one hour to think and research on this topic in 25 years. I would like to point out things that I believe he was wrong about and I would like to get opinions of other who will read this msg.
    1. Historically he is wrong about "you can't move from one class to other" but yes in this modern society there are a lot of uneducated Hindus that are backward thinker are still stuck to their colonial ideology of caste but HINDUTVA is trying to change it.
    2. He is also wrong about that there are some state that don't respect women , Its not specifically about respecting women there are state/religion/community which have quite low literacy rate hence all kind of backward thinking is more common there.
    3. His attacks on brahmins and catholic shows once a leftist always a leftist and on top of that he is Muslim so that is quite expected. I wonder what he think about caste system in Indian Muslim communities. Historically Brahmans have lost a lot to preserve the HINDU religion that you see in today's INDIA and yes there are Brahman families that are quite orthodox thinker but they are not the problem causer, every community have and needed those kind of people. They are quite peaceful and firm believer of their faith they don't cause any problem in the society.
    4. I don't know what Bollywood movie he was watching last night before giving this interview. If a adult boy and girl get legally married their marriage is protected by the constitution and police can't do anything about it, let me tell you Intercaste or inter religion marriage are more common in HINDU community in INDIA then Muslim community. Muslim community is most introvert community when it comes to marriage except if its a boy getting married to Hindu or other religion's girl then the rules completely changes. I also don't think if a community is more introvert towards marriage its not a problem, many communities in ASIA (Japanese, Koreans, chinese etc) even in EUROPE(French,GERMAN etc) thinks the same way.
other then that i agree on everything what he said.

I would say it is more of a socioeconomic class system .. the rich taking advantage of the poor as he said… irrespective of the caste. When it comes to arranged marriage .. it is a matter of personal preference … people of the same community have similar habits and so it is naturally easier to get along in an intimate relationship.
