- In 2011, Kim Ji-hun was selected by Big Hit Entertainment to train with 30 other trainees for an upcoming K-pop group. This, then unnamed group would later become the global music phenomenon, BTS. Ji-hun shared a small dorm with 6 other trainees who went on to debut as members of BTS while his life took a different turn when he was eventually cut from the final line up. VICE meets Ji-hun as he shares his first hand experience of almost being in BTS and his life after that.

oh I did some more research and found out this is the guy yoongi took to the hospital, I’ll put the story here:
Ji-hun narrated how he once suffered from a severe headache early in the morning and even started vomiting out of the blue. It was BTS’ Suga aka Yoongi that helped him and rushed him to the emergency room. He filled out the necessary paperwork and paid the hospital fees although his income as a trainee was extremely limited.
Here’s his TH-cam he talks about them; th-cam.com/video/gvKCcazPgZQ/w-d-xo.html
Bollocks 💩
And he stayed with him, when Jihun woke up he saw Suga sitting there

Almost famous. Total respect for these guys to have the courage to move on after dedicating your entire waking life to a goal.

Nah, don’t chase it. Just walk in the park. Luck plays the silent majority
For those who don’t know auditioning for a kpop company doesn’t guarantee anything. If you pass the audition you become a trainee for the company and go through an intensive boot camp style training for singing, dancing, etc. until the company thinks you’re ready to debut. This can last anywhere from 1-10 years. However you are never guaranteed to be part of a band and debut as the company can cut you anytime if they don’t see improvement. Auditioning for a company and getting in is already competitive, but being a trainee and trying to get to a level where you can debut is even more competitive.
It’s not worth it anyways those kids go through torture and abuse just to be a star there’s a way deeper and darker background to the story
@@Cataliina_mariia The whole business is corrupt af but who cares when their promoters and managers harvesting the souls of some 14 year old "This is deep" girls who used to make fun of Korean people before K-Pop became world wide.

The amount of hate comments under this video is sad to watch. The group is talented and worked hard to get where they are. This guy had unfortunate life events that gave him the biggest regret of his life. Instead of cheering them all on, a lot of the comments just spew hate. Not true, I played fairly high level hockey and had the chance to maybe play pro but things just didn’t work out!

Sad thing is that there are hundreds of people like him and his friend. The % of trainees that debut is so small and the ones that make it big? Microscopic.
Their are hundreds of other people who tried out for K pop groups, but only a handful that made it to the end with BTS. . They are huge. He explains how 8 of them lived in a dorm. They were selected. Then he was cut shortly before they debuted. Kinda unique .

It must suck to see BTS pop up everywhere. I even find it overwhelming as an Army these days. So trying to overcome that and leave the past behind must be hard when u get reminded every time u turn on the tv or flip open a newspaper or scroll through FB. Unlike other regrets in life, BTS are currently a constant. I kinda empathize with him. But sometimes people do forget that the best we can do is to live in the moment. All our lives have meaning. As long as he work towards his goals i think he'll turn out fine. At the end of the day, even BTS and Hype never truly understood how they got this big. I think they have mentioned it over and over again in interviews. They were only trying their best in doing what they like & that somehow got them where they are. We can't imitate their success but we can try to find our goals as well.
Never heard of them so they don't pop up everywhere as you say. I only saw them today here as i was viewing a vice video on raves. But then i don't do social media as i have a life. oh well.

I find it odd they are called "trainees" first and not "auditionees" as if it's a training regime before entering some elite special forces unit rather than people auditioning for a band...
Technically they audition first then become trainees. But that’s still not a guarantee you ‘debut’
Because they do train for years. They audition for the company, not for the band.
@@robertmoray988 BTS members own shares in their own company they helped build and contribute to both songwriting and production. This is probably the template you use to disparage every kpop group/ label
That's because they audition for the company not for a specific group and then if they make it past auditions, they train for years in singing, dancing, rapping ECT. Hours upon hours on practice And they go through an elimination over and over again over weeks and months. Those who haven't made the cut each elimination gets kicked out. Depending on the company people were saying goodbye to at least one friend a week. And they do this all for the possibility to debut in a group that they don't even know the name of yet. Nor how many members will be in the group. Some people even make it to groups being formed but the company changes their minds and you're either completely kicked out of the company or they put you in a new group that's created. Some of these people stay trainees for years and years. There are a couple of trainees that have been trainees for 10 years(it's rare but it does happen). You are correct in the assessment of them treating in like a regime because alot of companies do. 🤷🏾♀️
@@robertmoray988 except BTS came from a basically bankrupt company that had no power or influence In the kpop industry. They started as underdogs with several BTS members coming from the underground and having a love for music and artistry in general. The CEO gave them complete freedom and artistic liberty to write their own music. All members are a part of the Korean music copyright association and are credited and writer and producers on their songs and albums(even though they have in house producers who they always give credit to).
