Hey guys, welcome to the channel I'm a full time Chartered Accountant as well as a part time Real Estate agent with a background in finance, investing, budgeting and of course, real estate.
I've been on a personal mission for the last 10 years to build multiple streams of income, including both passive and active income. On this journey, I've gained a ton of domain knowledge about personal finance and investments that I would love to share.
My goal for this channel is to help you understand basic taxes, personal finance, investing, budgeting and expense management.
Another week, another video. This was requested by a subscriber recently, let me know of any topics you'd like covered! Be sure to tune in next week as I break down my top 2 'buy and hold forever' stocks. As always, I'm a Questrade affiliate, I have a link to sign up with Questrade where you'll receive $50 in free trade commissions (that means up to 10 free trades).

I like your recommendations, its good for beginners, 4 stocks is hard to choose from when they're all the same as you say
New subscriber here, im really new to investments and this video was so easy to understand.
Thank you so much. Looking forward to learning more through your content!
Sweet thanks! I'm trying to keep them basic and short... hopefully its easier to digest as a new investor.
Great video. I am holding VGRO. I like the exposure it holds VUN,VCN,VIU,VAB,VEE,VBG,VBU.
VGRO is a good one. Personally, I don't hold it, I hate bonds, I would go 100% equity and 0% bonds :p
Great video. I learn a lot from you. 👍🏻
I like VGRO. Maybe because it’s a bit more liquid compared to XGRO. Either way you can’t really go wrong with either imo.
Agreed, I've been learning towards Vanguard ETFs
Great Canadian content, keep it up! Got my sub 👍💯
Awesome thank you!
Nice choices man, looking to add some ETFs in my vanguard portfolio.
Yeah I've been slacking on my purchase of ETFs, I always thought of myself as a good stock picker but ... its all been luck
Do you think liquidity is an issue for investing in XGRO as a long term strategy for retirement purposes (i.e. 25-35 year horizon)?
Hey Andrew, liquidity will def not be an issue with XGRO, you'll be fine for that long term horizon.
@@CanadianFinancePro Thank you so much, cheers!
thank you for this, I'm more risk averse, I'm assuming your recommendation would be xbal over vbal? I'm looking at these now, you're right they're almost the same
Xbal is a bit cheaper (lower mer)
How about veqt or xeqt for someone who is more comfortable with a little more risk ?
Those are great long term holds, I'm more of a risk taker so I would take VEQT for sure. I recommended them recently in a few 'ETFs for Canadians' videos
@@CanadianFinancePro I currently hold VDY XIC and VFV but I'm looking to change to veqt or xeqt for a simpler more diversified approach
@@nrod9 TBH you can't go wrong with VFV as well, depending on which timeline you choose, VEQT and VFV trade shots on 'which one returned more'.
@@CanadianFinancePro thanks for the quick replys.... This is a long term hold 20+ years. DCA all the way
@@nrod9 Amazing, you'll be fine, anything longer than 10 years, you're good.
I've been on the charts/questrade monitoring the shenanigans for a few days.
I am completely new to this. I mean completely. Don’t even know how to sign up. Can you let me know where I go to sign up with XBAL 😊
What are the steps I need to take?
Hi there
What do you think of a new family of those: GBAL, GGRO, GQET. They are supposed to deliver higher returns over the next decade due to better design portfolios reflecting the past decade.
Hey Andrew, I'll actually have to do more research on the GBAL/GGRO etfs and get back to you, I'm so all over the place I've actually never even heard of them until now! I'll have to see why Blackrock has xgro and ggro
I care about your opinion, otherwise I wouldn’t be waiting for your weekly videos.Whats your opinion on Wealthsimple Vs Td direct trading
yes please and why did you choose questrade, wealthsimple has free frades
Thanks Bernie, trying to reply for the 3rd time, not sure why YT isn't letting me post, regardless. I appreciate your weekly support! It really makes a difference. I left TD a few years ago due to the pricing, I was planning on purchasing at least 20 new stocks and that was going to cost at least $200, when I transferred to QT and closed my account, they charged $125 (which was 8 months of dividends for me at the time), thankfully QT covered the cost of the transfer. TD was convenient since my chequing account is with TD, but I made the jump to QT to save on the fees. THAT BEING SAID, with Wealthsimple, you're not paying annnny fees and I heard good things about their robo-advisors (those have fees but they're low). Imagine your 10 year trading career, you make 200 trades, that's buying 100 stocks, then selling the same 100, with TD Direct Investing, that's $2,000 in fees, that's $2K down the drain in my mind. Wealthsimple finally levels out the playing field if you compare Canada to the US, they have so many 'no fee' online brokerages, its about time we get the same. I would've done WS if it was around at the time I wanted to switch. QT has a $5 fee, but that's already a sunk cost for me.
@@anisahaw7313 Hi Anisa, I hope the above reply answered your question, TL;DR wealthsimple wasn't around when I chose Questrade, at the time QT was the lowest cost online brokerage, had WS been around, I def wouldn't made the jump.
Bassem Zahili - Finance, Investing & Real Estate Thank you for taking the time to answer my question, fairly new to investing so I want to make the right decisions. Keep up the great work on this channel, you are making a difference with people like me who are new to investing.😊
like these videos my friend, just telling us what to invest in
yes yes, just take it with a grain of salt, these will do well if the overall market does well, and will do poorly of the economy is tanking.
clear and to the point. thank you
Glad it was helpful!
What’s your take on HGRO and ZGRO ?
Hey Mehroz, pretty much different sides of the same coin right? One has slightly more US exposure, I think you're good buying either one, but don't do both.
I would like more of these videos, telling new investors what to buy
You got it, I have one more coming out next week
Hi,
Great video! Quick 2 questions please. I’m turning 37 soon and was wondering for my age which makes more sense VGRO or VBAL? I answered the questions on vanguard website and my suggested mix is growth oriented investor of 70% stocks : 30 % bonds. Also, when you’re ready to sell these ETFs how do we know for certain that there would be buyers. Thank you
Hey Jessie, I would say go 'vgro', you're still pretty young and have room to grow! I would only switch to 'safer' ETFs like vbal when you're 5-10 years from retirement. If you take a look at the bonds/fixed income in those ETFs, the return is like 2% ... aka BARELY covering inflation, I don't want to earn 2% for 20 years, not worth it in my mind.
The good thing about these ETFs they're popular enough so that there IS a lot of volume! I know the stock market is an auction, there needs to be buyers/sellers, these two ETFs you mentioned are popular, I'm (almost) guaranteeing that you'll get filled. If there were penny stocks that nobody knew about, I would be super worried.
Thanks again ! now I’m wondering maybe for my age VEQT would be better or stick with VGRO? Also an earlier comment you had mention you’d choose wealth simple if it was available for you. I currently am already set up with Questrade. it’s not that expensive to sell ETS I’m the future On Questrade? Thanks again
@@jessesangha5489 I ended up opening a WS account just for this channel, its still pretty beta. I've been with Questrade for 12ish years I think, buying ETFs is free on QT and is around $5 to sell.
Why not do a split between VEQT and VGRO? I don't think you can go wrong with either.
great point ! So a split could be 50% veqt and 50 VGRO? Thanks again!
Hi.. This is absolutely wonderful info as I am planning to add ETF's in my portfolio. I saw one of your video where you disclosed your dividend income and I am planning to do same with monthly contribution but slowly. But I get confused. So let's say for an example if I want to buy/ contribute $1000 every month towards stocks/ETF's purchases should I contribute towards already owned stocks to purchase more numbers or Hunt for new stocks, ETF's. This is big dilemma. My goal is to have dividend income. Hope you will make it easier.
Awesome I'm glad it helps. I see what you're saying, you'll be able to invest by slowly, which I think is the correct way to grow. I wouldn't advise putting ALL your $$ into one, two or three stocks, I would recommend diversifying slightly, although these stocks I mentioned are 'diversified', you might find other companies you feel more comfortable investing more into, take for example, NWH.UN, I own 1,000 shares, but that's because I worked for the company and I trusted their dividend. I also invested in FCR.UN, I worked for them as well, I trust the dividend but I think the stock will shoot up to $20 as well. My next video will be recommending 2 'buy and hold forever' stocks coming out in a few days, granted, I can't predict the future, but I'm using their past performance and their financial statements as my 'comfort'. Everyone has a comfort level with stocks, if you put $1,000 into TD bank today, that's only 15 shares, but you trust TD bank so you're willing to put up to $5,000, so why not take 5 months and dump everything into TD if you want, then once you hit $5,000 in TD, you can choose another company like Enbridge, do another $5K. I hope this makes sense!
@@CanadianFinancePro thank you for your reply...much appreciated. I will be waiting for your next video on 2 stocks. Yes it makes sense to limit certain amount on one stock and then get another one. What is your recommendation on how many stocks one should have in their portfolio? And yes everyone have different approach but for person with regular job, no time for Daily tracking of stock movements.
Do you have any videos on USA stocks/ETF'S to hold/buy under RRSP.
Thanks again
Thank you!
😄
Xeqt vs xus?
Great video!

Canadian dividend ETFs please! 😀
Ahhh ok ok, added to the list! I have 2 high yield dividend stocks for my upcoming video BUT, I'll add div ETFs to the one after that :p
