Old man Loki's summoning Asgard is super sad when you think about it. He spent years alone pining for his home and brother. I guarantee its not the first time he made that illusion.
Love this viewpoint! I heard the creative team say that Old Man Loki is essentially what would’ve happened if Loki had not died in Infinity War. Also, are we calling him Old Man Loki in reference to Old Man Logan?
Richard E Grant was able to make me care about a character I literally just met and had less than 10 minutes of screen time. That one final laugh is incredible. What an actor.
Yeah, in the same comic he was opposed by Hellcat, who in this universe was a minor baddie from Season 3 of Jessica Jones. (also my favorite character)
The Thanos-Copter actually happened in the comics one time a long time ago and the mini-Thor was actually Frog Thor or Throg. Lots of comics easter eggs.
Silvie was arrested by the TVA because she would have grown up a hero, her playing with the toys one of which is a Valkarie gives the hint of what she may have become. Richard E Grant as the original (Comic Book) Loki was amazing. This now links into the Dr Strange film and the "What If" series.
I believe they're kinda implying society don't accept trans, and other stuff that ppl don't think it's supposed to be it, it's like the tva just can't accept any tiny different things that's just different from the way they think it's supposed to be so, see the connection?
The greatest part about Loki, Sylvie, and the cloak…remember that Loki’s are all adopted Frost Giants, not real Asgardians. There’s no way they were actually cold.
@Carolina Fantaccini Well, Classic Loki outright tells him that relying on the daggers and physical combat was actively hampering his magical power, so...there you go.
He who remains, or Kang the Conquerer, is complicated to say the least. He’s from the future, the backstory given here is pretty close to the comics. He has been named as the villain for the next Ant Man movie There’s has been different versions of him, there’s a future version of him named Immortus who gets recruited to work for the TVA, that’s what this one is mostly based on plus a separate character also called He Who Remains, last surviving employee at the end of time. Then there’s Iron Lad, a teenage Kang who’s a hero that uses a stark-esque suit. Kang’s real name is Nathaniel Richards, a possible descendant of Reed Richards, aka Mr Fantastic of the Fantastic 4
Also he's a possible descendant of Dr. Doom and there is also Ramatut version of Kang who ruled ancient Egypt and used the Sphynx with a nose as a time machine and Qeng Enterprise building by a version of Kang living the modern day also Ravonna was a love interest for Kang
My favorite commentary about the Loki Sylvie relationship is from Honest Trailers: “a show that makes you wonder how long it would take you to do yourself. Like 5 minutes right?” Man that week long wait to see what happened to Mobius after he got pruned was rough. The whole community was like “he better be ok or we’re rioting”
Personally I think they wasted that moment by cutting to Loki in the void. It could have been a real WTF moment but instead I was just like "Oh so pruning doesn't kill people, I bet Mobius is fine somewhere."
@@waveymattdavey Personally, I agree. I was all ready to be like "Did they just kill the "main" character so they could let Loki-F take over?! That'd be such a cool thing to do!" but no. Oh well.
It's so interesting watching a non-comic book person watch these Marvel/Disney productions. Sometimes it's nice understanding things that are happening but then sometimes it's interesting seeing a person experience what is going on without knowing or understanding things that are revealed to people who have background knowledge. Whew!!! I said all that without revealing anything. ;)
In Ravonna's conversation with Mobius she said "Only one person gets free will. The one in charge". She is going to look for free will, hence looking for the one in charge.
There is a theory that at the end of episode four, when Sylvie walks down the steps to pick up the beheaded TimeKeeper android, you can hear a faint 'See you soon'. After He Who Remains says that to Sylvie, you can see her expression change, as if she heard it before.
"We're all villains here" was my favorite line even though it got cut on the edit of this. Can't wait for the full on egomaniac Kang in Antman. Or whatever version/variant... The new and very playful plot device.
@@christopherb501As long as they keep it brief. The whole invocation of Rama-Tut(Kang) could be a slippery and messy slope. Seeing as he's tied to F4, XMen, celestials, morlocks and mutants in general.
These Loki's make their outfits with their magic. Her outfit didn't grow, she just made the same outfit she had as a child when she was an adult the same way Loki makes his outfits.
That statue at the end is Kang the Conqueror, he is the villain for the next MCU Phase, a variant of He Who Remains. There is a theory that the Loki finale and the WandaVision finale are connected. That the multiverse starts branching at the moment Wanda defeats Agatha 27:55 - The moment where Wanda Maximoff becomes the Scarlet Witch in “WandaVision” happens at the same time that He Who Remains tells Loki and Sylvie, “We just crossed the threshold.”
I actually like that they had it sync to the point where Wanda truly becomes The Scarlet Witch because she herself is a Nexus being. From what I understand Nexus beings cause nexus events just by existing.
@@seniorordenanza2387 Nexus beings are focal points for their respective universes. They are kind of what anchors each universe to the timeline. In the case of the main MCU universe of earth-616, Wanda is the nexus being, and she's notably powerful even amongst other nexus beings. They all have the ability to influence probability and are the node for magical energy for their universe, and then each one has some kind of unique power, like Wanda's hex magic. Part of the problem for our MCU universe is that our Nexus Being doesn't know how to control her power. I describe WandaVision as an exercise in demonstrating what can happen when a god grieves uncontrollably. The bigger problem is that she's learning how to control it from the Darkhold, and that's not a good thing.
Yah, he did great in the role even in Ant-Man (which wasn’t the best film..). Too bad it looks like he screwed the pooch and we’ll likely not see him in the role again (maybe for stuff already filmed for Loki season 2, but we’ll see.
@hectic105 lol yeah this comment doesn't seem to have aged well. Considering the flash movie is likely the biggest flop of all time and a big part of it was people refusing to support Ezra Miller, can Marvel afford to keep on Jonathan Majors with the variety of pending domestic abuse charges?
"What caused it to branch?" Popular theory is Wanda becoming the Scarlet Witch; if you sync up the episodes, she becomes SW right when Kang says "We've crossed the threshold".
I doubt thats the case though cause Falcon & The Winter Soldier takes place after that and theres nothing to do with the multiverse there. I think its because he knew sylvie was gonna kill him and so he sent coordinates to miss minutes to send to renslayer so she could find him in the future. Except since her and Kang are a couple in the comics, Im guessing she falls for him and they go back in time to create/rule over the TVA.
Wanda becoming the Scarlet Witch and #HeWhoRemains realizing they crossed the threshold occur at the same time in the #WandaVision and #Loki finales (27:52)
Something I've been thinking about since I first watched the finale: it definitely felt like Loki and Sylvie were being set up. The first thing they encounter in the citadel is Miss Minutes, who is laying a prospective deal out for the two of them; and the deal she’s presenting is just the right combination of incredibly tempting and obviously too good to be true. I don’t think that Kang expected or intended for them to accept that deal, it was just there to throw them off balance, to derail them with something unexpected, and to plant the seed of the idea that whoever they’re about to encounter would rather cut a deal than pick a fight with them. And then the man himself shows up and he’s quirky and kind of off-kilter and presumably not at all what they were expecting. He starts giving the exposition and while he’s explaining who he is and everything that’s actually going on he keeps throwing out jabs at both of them along the lines of how awful and untrustworthy they are and specifically pointing out Loki’s history of megalomania. Then he gets to his stated purpose for bringing them here: so that the two of them could take his place. Now, lets be honest here; Loki and Sylvie taking charge of things and continuing to run everything as Kang laid out, the TVA are functionally unchanged, still operating in the way they always have just without being lied to about their origins and purpose and under new management--that is not something that Sylvie would ever agree to, and I don’t think anyone who has knows anything about her would expect her to agree to that. The prospect of controlling the very thing she’s spent most of her life trying to destroy is not going to tempt her away from what she came here to do; not when the person she blames for the lifetime of suffering she’s endured is within convenient stabbing range. Loki, on the other hand is a slightly different story. You would have to not be paying attention at all to the journey he’s been on across this series to think that ruling the TVA is something he would even remotely give a crap about anymore, but the prospect of a Bigger Bad (or several) who makes Thanos look like a irritated toddler and would rip the timeline apart without thinking about it; that would definitely give him pause. Loki and Sylvie have shown that they are stronger together than they are apart, and the two of them presenting a unified opposition to him would be a lot harder to deal with than the two of them at cross purposes with each other. This entire encounter seems almost tailor made to drive a wedge between them. Which seems odd, given his stated goal was to pass the TVA on to them and put them in charge of the timeline; it seems like that would work better if everyone was on the same page. Now, why he would want this outcome is the question. I think that he was telling the truth about being tired to doing this whole thing himself, but I don’t think he would actually trust anyone else to take his place. Anyone else, especially for example, variants who have a pretty big chip on their shoulder with regards to the TVA and what they do, would likely have their own ideas about how things should be run and how events should be organized on the timeline. And before you know it the entire order he’s spent god know how long creating is just completely out the window. I think it was his intention to be killed here so that one of his other variants could slip into his place and take over. Sure, doing that is going to make the timeline a bit of a mess for a while, but he trusts himself to pick up the pieces and put everything back in order. (This is, admittedly, me fully in the 'thumbtacks and string' zone based on my somewhat limited knowledge of Kang from the comics. This is just my own little fan theory)
You're 100% right. Kang was gaslighting her the entire time, he WANTED himself to die. For what reason? Lord knows, but he did NOT want them to rule together.
I'm gona assume that, long term, the entire multiverse war is a one big time loop, or at the very least, history repeats itself to some extent. Everything is nice and contained for eons, until the one in charge gets tired, then arranges for a successor to take over. Since Kang only trusts his variants to do the job, one of them needs to do it, so the timeline needs to be split to allow others to exist, war breaks out, all hell breaks loose and eventually one of them wins and puts it all back into place. This can happen over and over again, for all existence. This could be the first iteration of the MCU, or it could be the 700th, we'd never know.
Episode 5 was by far the most entertaining and dare I say deepest of the episodes to me. Seeing all of the reflections of our boy in how his life could have gone (especially Richard E. Grant as old Loki, because he literally lived our Loki's exact life and then some, ending only in loneliness), with our Loki realizing he was so past it all. I dunno, it just hits me deep.
"What was my nexus event?" She was playing with the Valkyrie toys - She wanted to become a hero when she grew up. She was going to be a hero, and that's what made her - makes her - so different
Also "What caused it to branch?" - Sylvie, at the end of episode 2 with the reset charges. If you look at the branching timeline in white VS the branching timeline on the display they match up.
@@WhyneedanAlias If i've got my timeline right, the Valkyrie were already wiped out by Hela by this point, But! Either way, she wanted to be a hero, as part of the Valkyrie or not.
@@MrAlyxandyr Yeah, of course you're right but was it ever stated that there were no Valkyries after that? Becuse Thor also said to Korg that he wanted to be a Valkyrie too when he was young but he couldn't...
Everything outside of the Citadel at the end of Time happens simultaneously to anyone standing at the end of time. So the event(s) that caused the branches at the end were what happened/is happening and what will happen in in Loki, Wanda Vision, Spider-Man 3 and Doctor Strange 2.
Ahh, I loved every second of this show!!!! Episode 4 was the moment where I thought, THIS JUST GOT REAL. When Mobius was pruned, I freaked out When he was fine, I was so excited and finally, when the Sylvie-Loki kiss happened, I lost my freaking mind!!!!
Ravonna said "Only one person gets free will: the one in charge," so when she says she's going "in search of free will" we're supposed to take it to mean either she's going to find the one in charge or become the one in charge. Thing is, she's not acting on her own. Her decision to leave and whatever destination she has planned both come from the information He Who Remains sent her through Miss Minutes. He doesn't seem to have sent her to save his life, so it's possible he sent her to find him somewhere on the timeline. Seemingly implying that he knew he was going to die, despite saying that he no longer knew what was going to happen. It's also not completely clear whether he's actually insane from isolation, or putting on an act. When he takes the Tempad off his hand and places it on the table ("I love all this honesty") the shot lines up so it looks like its placed on his other hand. Because he's still in control. His entire purpose seems to have been to drive them apart. The deal from Miss Minutes was mostly aimed at Loki, causing Sylvie to doubt his loyalty, and he even flat out asks if she can really trust him. Anyway if you think he's evil, just wait until you meet his variants.
Oh thank god. I was literally losing my mind going "Where is this video!" I'm also really enjoying the current X-men series you're doing, i haven't seen them in awhile and it's a blast to see them through your eyes, and i think by and large most the movies are very good, good themes and performances, most of them still ahead!
Actually for both Wanda vision and Lokis finale. The exact time and second when Wanda became Scarlett witch is the exact time Kang said we have reached the threshold. Because once Wanda becomes scarlet witch, she is too strong for Kang to keep under control.
I love how strategic they were about their set design. They would show just enough of the giant, gorgeous landscapes to inspire awe, but then find a way to get into a smaller area filled with enough strong aesthetic choices to not blow the entire budget on CGI backdrops in every scene.
The older “Classic Loki” was played by Richard E. Grant who has been in tons of movies and shows. As a change of pace, I would recommend the Steve Martin movie “LA Story,” where Grant plays the ex-husband of Martin’s romantic interest.
There’s a theory that the reason He Who Remains said “we’ve crossed the threshold” was when Wanda became the Scarlet Witch because it happens at the exact same time in the timeline along with the same time stamp as when it happens in the finale of WandaVision. It would also tie in Agatha saying “you don’t know what you’ve just done.”
He Who Remains lived outside of time itself, he died at every moment across the universe, so for example, he died when Wanda was born, when her parents died, when she and vision died, at the end of wandavision and eventually when she will die
Writing this from the future, but its been confirmed this is incorrect. Fiege himself confirmed killing he who remains allows the other events to take place, not the other way around.
I've been binge-watching Natalie's reactions to MCU, and it's so satisfying to see how in the first movies she seemed like "ok, this is not exactly my favorite genre, but let's enjoy this" and now at the end of the Loki you can actually tell how she's so immersed that she's freaking out with every plot-twist like a die-hard MCU fan. The transformation is complete!
@@ericstahmer720 I laughed so hard when she said "You seem like the worst one if you're here doing this." Boy howdy does she have no idea how much worse the alternative is.
I love the scene of Loki and Sylvie on the hill talking. It's just 2 people who have never had any kind of close connection with someone trying to awkwardly figure it out, it's adorable
The theory is that thud that makes Kang stop talking and they “We crossed the threshold” is the point Wanda becomes the Scarlet Witch and absorbed Agatha’s powers
My theory for Alligator Loki is that he comes from a timeline where Thanos used the Reality Infinity Stone to turn Loki into an Alligator rather than kill him.
You know He Who Remains is Kang the Conqueror, right? He makes the most sense towards being the main guy since his whole thing is time travel. He's quite literally the most complicated villain Marvel has
@@thehobbyist7275 I'm a little late to this but I think they mean that this version of Kang isn't the worst. Just like he had said, his variants are far worse.
I love your reactions, you are always so full of sunshine. There were little Easter eggs from various comics like the Thanos copter, the Thor frog, etc. The Sphinx is a very integral Easter egg as one of Kang the Conqueor’s mode of transportation.
My favorite theory out there is Sylvie's Nexus Event, she's a little girl in Asgard. As a Loki she wants to be a Valkyrie, and therefore a hero. When you see her as a little girl, she's playing with toys and one of them is a Valkyrie on a pegasus. And now that you are finished watching, look on TH-cam for "WandaVision and Loki Final Episodes Synced"

to me, he who remains is the best part of this show. jonathan majors was just so perfectly crazy in the role and if THIS is how he's taking kang moving forward, i cannot WAIT for more of him :)
The cool thing is, because he could possibly be playing variants, he could literally play the character multiple ways! It could get really interesting!
@press f to pay frog when we see Kang the Conqueror, I’m expecting an entirely different personality. If he’s anything like his comics/cartoon self, he’ll be much more ruthless, cold and calculated
@@rileyribble6733 i also see this as an absolute win :) watching the contrast between how he unsettles the audience as he who remains vs as kang the conqueror would be so cool
The guy at the end is Kang (Kang the Conqueror). In the MCU he makes Thanos look like no threat at all. That's what I love about this series. Such a huuuuuge lead in to the next phase. He is going to be a HUUUUGE bad guy across the subsequent movies. This will be reiterated in Dr. Strange (possibly Spiderman) so people don't "have" to see this series, but the epicness of the ending was incredible. I'm guessing the girl that ran will have a larger part to play in the season 2 but the Kang guy... damn that was a good twist. A lot of people who know comics suspected it but its great they went that way.
This ending didn't only set up Loki season 2, but also (at least) "what if...", "Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania" and "Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness".
If you look carefully, you'll see that when Sylvie is playing with her toys as a child, she is talking about saving the day/playing the hero. That was her Nexus event. The fact that this variant didn't want to be the villain. The irony is that by taking her, she turned out to be far more destructive to the TVA
I'd say she re-opened up the possibility of access to such realities. Remember Kang ended the multi-universal war, which means before that fight there was a multiverse. He just locked the universe we've been watching into a self contained loop.
One of the very best finales to a first season I’ve ever seen, I honestly don’t get the complaints about Loki and Sylvie I mean yeah are they alternate versions of the same being kinda yeah but at the same time who else was he ever gonna truly fall in love with but himself? 😂 nah but even I ship them now and that’s only because my wife shipped them from the beginning (seriously she has a worrying obsession with them)
Fun fact, the part where the timeline branches cross the threshold happens at the exact second in the episode that Wanda becomes the Scarlet Witch in her finale.
Episode 5 is full of Eastereggs from the comics like the Thanos helicopter, the frog Thor in the jar & the end of the episode when we see the floating castle. When I seen the castle i called it, I new who was behind the TVA because that hole ending scene reminded me of a 4 part story from the 90s X-men animated series that a version of "He who remains" reveals himself at the end of to us the viewers.
He who remains gave one BIG clue. He has been called many things and one of those things was conqueror. For Marvel fans that was a giveaway easter egg but for those who are not comic fans just look at the cast/character list for Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
Now that you're almost caught up, I'm excited for whats coming next on your channel! I'd really love it, if you watched interstellar, it's my favourite movie of all time and in general all the Movies by Nolan are very strong
There's a cool link between the final episode of Loki and Wandavision. If you played both episodes side by side the moment that they allow the multiverse to be created in Loki is the same moment that Wanda hears her kids calling out to her.
Thank GOD everyone in the comments is explaining everything that was confusing to her- so much just flew over her head that we didn't get a reaction from!
the passing of the threshold was caused by wanda becoming the scarlet witch (nexus being), if you play both finales at the same time it's perfectly in sync (passing threshold and wanda absorping agnes' power and when "he who remains" drops the thing, it's at the exact same time when agnes dropped out of the sky)
I enjoy your reactions because I like to hear your thoughts on each episode and I agree with what you said about Loki's finale. I felt that a lot of people were hating on Sylvie because they felt she betrayed Loki but if anyone betrayed anyone it was Loki betrayed Sylvie because she stayed true to her plan. Loki changed his mind after listening to a colorful stranger which mean Loki wasn't dedicated to his cause. If the one that remain (Kang) was telling the truth but it's still from his view point saying his variants are more evil than him when he killed all of them and their universes is like Thanos saying the Avengers are evil after the Infinity War. I get it why most people took Loki's point of view because we are more familiar with him than Sylvie but she was hunted for most of her life and her universe was pruned and just getting 30 minute conversation wouldn't change anyone reasonable mind.
Actually yes, my mother named her cat Loki, I bet a lot of other people do because cats are devious and full of mischief, but it makes more sense for an alligator to be a variant since it is more likely to go against the "sacred timeline" especially when it goes around biting the hands off so many others
Classic Loki is the best would love to see him show up in Season 2 somehow. Also Kang (The Variant of He Who Remains and the person you saw at the end as the statue) is great my favourite version of him being from Earth's Mightiest Hero's a show i recommend to everyone one of the best Marvel shows. Loki falling in love with a variant Loki isn't that bad compared to Wanda and Quicksilver falling in love in the Ultimate Universe that shit just makes me cringe every time i look back on the Ultimate Universe. Some stuff i love like Ultimate Spider-Man and of course Miles being introduced in the Ultimate universe but then you got Black Widow and Iron Man making a sex tape and this bullshit with Wanda and Quicksilver being in love and this not forget the awful Ultimatum event where they killed most of the Marvel character's off in over the top brutal ways for the sake of gore. Glad we have both the Earth-616 (Prime Marvel universe) and the Ultimate Universe so creators can take the best from both and leave all the bullshit behind.
@@bastiancalderon2807 The Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610) Had some crazy shit like how Wanda and Pietro loved each other, but not in the acceptable and conventional way a brother and sister should love each along with the Black Widow and Tony Stark Sex tape which they showed off in front of the Avengers in The Ultimate 3. I mean it's pretty obvious classic Loki will be back. They made a point to talk about how he tricked Thanos by turning into an inanimate object then when it looks like he died to Aliath it shows the horns he wore which is most likely what he turned himself into.

My favorite commentary about the Loki Sylvie relationship is from Honest Trailers: “a show that makes you wonder how long it would take you to do yourself. Like 5 minutes right?”
Man that week long wait to see what happened to Mobius after he got pruned was rough. The whole community was like “he better be ok or we’re rioting”
If my variant is as gorgeous as Sophia it would probably take me less than 5mins.

Looking to BE the one in charge.

no, in the comics ravonna and kang are an item. she's not looking to displace he who remains; she's looking to be his right hand.
I liked his impatient "Grow UP, Sylvie!" You usually don't hear someone step on someone's revealed emotions like that in a movie.
Think whenever we get the Fantastic Four, we'll see them run into Rama-Tut?

That the multiverse starts branching at the moment Wanda defeats Agatha
27:55 - The moment where Wanda Maximoff becomes the Scarlet Witch in “WandaVision” happens at the same time that He Who Remains tells Loki and Sylvie, “We just crossed the threshold.”
I thought it was the point that Wanda was able to hear the twins, when she was in her astral form reading the Darkhold...
I actually like that they had it sync to the point where Wanda truly becomes The Scarlet Witch because she herself is a Nexus being. From what I understand Nexus beings cause nexus events just by existing.
That theory was debunked by the writers. It was purely coincidental.
In the Eternals trailer we hear them say the backblip caused a divergence. I have a feeling that is what caused crossing the Threshold.
"We just lost our lead! That's not something you see happen, ever, in a show."

Episode 5 "Journey Into Mystery" is an homage to the comic book the spawned Thor back in the 60's.
Where Loki wore a costume almost identical to Old Loki.
I really like the actor they got for Kang, and I can't wait to see how he does as the next big bad like thanos was.
The implications of this ending really setup the whole of phase 4 and it's very exciting stuff!
"What caused it to branch?"
Popular theory is Wanda becoming the Scarlet Witch; if you sync up the episodes, she becomes SW right when Kang says "We've crossed the threshold".
At that point no one was controling the branches, not the TVA nor HWR so the free will "began to exist"
I'm pretty sure I read that the WandaVision team have denied that this is the case.
And now I think (or at least people now think) that it’s Doctor Strange helping Peter Parker
Wanda becoming the Scarlet Witch and #HeWhoRemains realizing they crossed the threshold occur at the same time in the #WandaVision and #Loki finales (27:52)
“THERE HAS TO BE A SEASON 2” 😂 Nat was about to punch 🤛 someone!
"What was my nexus event?"
She was playing with the Valkyrie toys - She wanted to become a hero when she grew up. She was going to be a hero, and that's what made her - makes her - so different
Also "What caused it to branch?" - Sylvie, at the end of episode 2 with the reset charges. If you look at the branching timeline in white VS the branching timeline on the display they match up.
Also maybe she wanted to join the Valkyries which our Loki could not...

When Mobius was pruned, I freaked out
When he was fine, I was so excited and finally, when the Sylvie-Loki kiss happened, I lost my freaking mind!!!!

I'm loving MCU Kang so much.
If you look carefully, you'll see that when Sylvie is playing with her toys as a child, she is talking about saving the day/playing the hero. That was her Nexus event. The fact that this variant didn't want to be the villain. The irony is that by taking her, she turned out to be far more destructive to the TVA
"What if...?" It's canon in the MCU multiverse and It's the result of Sylvie's final decision.
I'd say she re-opened up the possibility of access to such realities. Remember Kang ended the multi-universal war, which means before that fight there was a multiverse. He just locked the universe we've been watching into a self contained loop.
The Nexus moment, when He Who Remains has no idea what's happening, refers to Chaos Magick reentering the Timeline

3:08 Yes, and it was literally just because she was happy.
Also, Frog Thor needs a swamp-based arch-nemesis.
