Jacob Lawson, known mononymously as Jvke (pronounced "Jake") (born March 3, 2001), is an American singer-songwriter, producer, and social media personality. He is known mainly for his TikTok videos, one of which made him go viral in 2021. In July 2022, Lawson announced his song "Golden Hour" for which he announced the music video two months later. He rose to fame in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic after releasing his debut single "Upside Down", which became a viral TikTok hit and trended on the platform.
Lawson's first studio album, This Is What ____ Feels Like (Vol. 1-4) (2022), peaked at number 56 on the US Billboard 200, while the song "Golden Hour" debuted on the UK Singles Chart. "Golden Hour" was Lawson's first single to ever reach the Billboard Hot 100, making him one of the youngest artists of the 21st century to ever enter the chart. Before "Golden Hour" he had songs that nearly reached the chart, but mostly peaked in other worldwide charts such as in New Zealand. His album debuted in charts in several different countries.
Lawson has received awards such as the MTV Push Artist for October 2022, as well as being nominated for a Grammy for producer and other awards for his work.
In 2022, with his growing popularity, he performed his first live performance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where he performed "Golden Hour" as well as various performances in Europe with MTV.
The song "Golden Hour" was released, written and produced by Lawson in mid-July 2022, and was quickly promoted by him as well, as well as the editing and instrumental of the video by him independently, and was his first song to reach the Billboard, as well as getting not only worldwide attention but nationwide attention, and Lawson went on TV shows, as well as winning the MTV Push Artist of October 2022 Award, which was also his first ever award.
Following the song's release, MTV UK called Lawson to perform the song, of which they posted onto TH-cam. He was also recognized by MTV Italia which he performed for as well.
His song "Golden Hour" debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 71 and peaked at number 46. It also reached number 40 on the UK Singles Chart.
As of November 2022, his song has had more than 100 million views across TH-cam, TikTok and other social media platforms.
