I was there in late 70`s early 80`s as a kid quite often. Water fountains were all over and looked totally different. You could smell the water as you walked by them. Large seating pits were dug out all over the mall too. What memories!
There was a Kahunaville there, but it closed way back in 2007. It was cool, but maybe too expensive to pull enough traffic regularly. Tilt is also now gone, it closed December that year. (2019)
Saw a buncha movies at the double theater they had in there for years. Always full of cigarette smoke. Spent so much cash on air hockey at Pocket Change Park. Had bought fish multiple times at either of the two pet stores that used to be there. Holy crap, I could go on. I... am getting old. Great vid, bro, big 👍.
Congratulations on 1200 subscribers and your 200th video Richard. Happy someone explored this mall. I have been trying to get there and walk through it myself.
It was always a “treat” to go to this mall or Southern Park Mall in Boardman, as I was growing up. When I was a kid, going to the mall meant going to the Shenango Valley Mall in Hermitage, which was (and still is) super tiny compared to this mall. This was years before the Premium Outlets and Walmart came to my area. Nowadays, a mall like this focuses on being more of an entertainment/event center, rather than shopping.
Well similar to me. When I stayed in Niles last time in Holiday Inn Express just across the road, it was in 2002. At that time visiting from Germany it was amazing. To me it looks a bit empty, but time has changed I guess.
Not that exciting.... two floors would be wonderful and exciting. They used to have a two floored Merry go round with all these horses. That was amazing.
At 10:41 I think that was suncoast video. And Woolworth use to be across from the aquarium. I liked the mall alot better before the remodel and love that camera you got lol
Great video Richard. The last time I was in the Eastwood Mall was in October 2006. I stopped in Steve and Berrys in the mall. Before leaving the mall complex I bought a digital camera from Best Buy and it still works.
Oh!! I see they finished relocating FYE! :) Hope it's nicer than the old store (which was seriously lacking for an FYE). This is hands down one of my favorite malls, though. And definitely one of the more interesting ones.
*_ This was, and still really is, a great mall. Since it was about 20 years since my last visit, it's hard to remember exactly what was there, and what was where, but I was sure there was a big carousel in there. I'm also sad Kahunaville didn't make it. Tilt Studios seems pretty awesome though. The one in the Ohio Valley Mall in St. Clairsville, OH is very similar._*
The Aquarium is probably the nicest thing here! Kahunaville was awesome though! Pocket Change Park was freaking awesome as well! Pocket Change Park filed a complaint against Kahunaville for breach of contract or something of that matter! Good video keep grinding!!!
Nice mall. I stayed at the Marriott attached to it a couple years ago, and thought it was an innovative concept. Aquarium, arcade, indoor rides great attractions. I wish these ideas at EastWood were incorporated in Golf Mill Mall in Niles, Illinois (no pun intended, I live there). That mall is in sore need of repurposing!
I was at this mall July 6th for the first time ever. There is a hotel connected to this mall. That is an interesting idea to help a drive a bit of mall traffic. A Hampton Inn is being constructed at Ohio Valley in St Clairsville as well. There are a lot of similarities with the two malls. The directories displayed in both malls include restaurants and other business places which are in the vicinity outside of the malls. I wondered about those stairs you show toward the end of the vid on your way out. Now I know what had been upstairs. Thanks for the info and this upload.
Oh and where the carousel used to be, was big water fountains years ago. And fountains at the ends of each wing by the anchor stores, and several smaller fountains scattered about the joint.
Surprised there was no mention of the missing concourse. Remember how there used to be an oddly configured wing to the left of Dillard's (or Carlisle's/Toys R Us as it used to be known)? It's where the mall offices used to be as well as public restrooms, and the stores back there were set up in a rather odd configuration, and it led to the eastern parking lot, you'd exit underneath a ratjer out-of-place green awning. Humorously enough, in the last few months of the wing's life there was a GameStop back there in addition to the one at Center Court (apparently one of them had been another game store that got bought out by Gamestop, I wish I could remember the whole story). THe wing was closed and demolished in 2013 to make way for the hotel and Cafaro headquaters.
The Macy's was indeed a Kaufmann's, before that it was a Strauss but that was before my lifetime. That unlabeled entrance was actually the old entrance to Ruby Tuesdays, the Pocketchange Park/Kahunaville entrance you remember is tucked in the corner between the food court entrance and the unlabeled entrance. That unlabeled entrance was kept when Fat E's and later Fuddrucker's took over the Ruby Tuesday's space. However when Primanti Brothers took over the space they created their own entrance. Why? Well my theory is not having an inline mall entrance may have made their liquor licence cheaper. Back in 2012 I knew someone who was trying to turn the former Kahunaville into a karaoke bar, and at the time there was another liquor license in the mall, which was Fuddrucker's. Apparently when you have more than one liquor license in one building, each additional one is going to be more expensive. The plans ended when Firebirds opened that fall, which would have made the karaoke bar the THIRD liquor license in the mall and it was just prohibitively expensive. Now with Pirmanti Brothers, they don't have an inline entrance, they're only accessible from outside, which may be a loophole for getting a cheaper license, I'm not sure
*_Oh wow. Thanks for sharing that. It was so long ago when I saw Kahunaville, I couldn't even remember if it was outdoor or indoor entrance. As for mall liquor licences, geez... I had no idea._*
Another terrific video, and I enjoyed the techno soundtrack as you walked around the mall. Guessing it's to avoid copyright issues from TH-cam. That music's better than the musak mall soundtrack many have. Eastwood seems to be trying. The aquarium and kiddy rides are nice touches as well as the big arcade which wll hopefully bring in teens and kids at heart to play the games. One gapeme seemed like a bowling alley which would be fun to play. F.Y.E seems to be doing well in Ohio... most if not all of ours in New Jersey shut down (mine at my mall because part of Zara, the Spanish knockoff of H&M.) But it also looks hurting. Sad Kahunaville had to shut down, it seems more fun than a Rainforest Cafe with the sometimes scarey animatronic animals there. And the several vacant storefronts the Sears gone and I"m guessing the Dillards will be gone soon too. Putting Clearance on a store seems to be a death bell for the space. Odd to see a food court and chairs and tables across from a Macys. Even other to see Macys kept this store open. Hope it holds on for awhile or that wing will look at near death as Dillards.
I go to this mall all the time usually once a week, it’s very often busy, sadly the southern park mall which used to be much nicer has been declining heavily
Rip Niles Super Kmart 1994- April 8, 2018. Rip Niles Sears 1969- January 6, 2019. Fun fact: that Sears was built before the mall even opened. Where the Ollie’s and the Rust City Church is now was part of the Sears back in the 60s and 70s
@@billsmith9726 1 *_This is the only recent Sears closing announcement I've heard, and the only one that I can find online right now. I would expect another round of closures by the end of the summer._*
At 18:51 I saw a sign for belk? The wing by dillards looked dead, then I saw it was clearance so they will be gone soon. Does that open into the mall or was it closed at the time. Great tour.
*_It was closed at the time. The hours there are weird: 12-7. I didn't see a Belk, and as far as I know the mall never had one, but I'll check the footage because I definitely missed that!_*

Shenango Valley Mall's got no stores. :-(
SVM is the deadest mall I know!

This looks like a nice mall. The entrance for Macy’s is pretty.
It's AMAZING. I live about 90 minutes away, and will drive to Youngstown specifically for this mall.
Not that exciting.... two floors would be wonderful and exciting. They used to have a two floored Merry go round with all these horses. That was amazing.
_I miss that carousel. It was magnificent. I used to go there a lot until Kahanaville closed._
I like this mall. My husband used to work at Macy's doing IT. We brought the kids up here in the winter. It was a busy Saturday when we went.
Tilt Studio is closed sadly. A real shame because I wanted to go there.
_My wife and I did go through it maybe twice, but unfortunately missed its closing day._ 😥

I always wanted to try that tiny fair they usually have every May. Have you been to the Trumbull County Fairgrounds?

*_Whoa, I only vaguely remember that. I can't picture it though. Although I only lived in the Warren area less than a year back in 1999-2000._*
A long time ago there was an A&P grocery store at the end of that wing.

The only reason its not thriving is cause i looks boring now not like it did when i was real littlw around 2000
