1). In Islam, the rape of a Wife is a crime of great Sin!
Even if the Woman does not agree to be intimate with her husband, the man has no right to force her! This is what Islam teaches!
Also, a man must not be selfish, and he must satisfy his wife!
Polygamy is not recommended in Islam! It is your choice! I will explain below!
2). It is forbidden in Islam to beat a Woman! This is a great Sin!
3). The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "The best of you is the one who treats his wives well.
4). I know and see that Muslim women deliberately seek a husband who practices Islam! Because they know that Muslims treat their wives fairly!
For example in Islam it is forbidden;
1. It is forbidden to beat the Wife, and especially it is forbidden to hit her in the face.
2. It is forbidden to shout at his wife in front of his children!
3. It is forbidden to come into the house drunk and frighten the children and the wife!
4. You must not leave your wife alone in the house after a fight!
5. A husband has no right to chase his wife to work unless she wants to!

The best exemple that contradict the standard Islamic narratives it can be found in the Sira itself: Khadija, Mohammed’s first wife was a wealthy woman and a success caravan trader in addition she was apparently older than her husband. Mohammed started out as her employee. From this we know that pre-Islamic women could live independently, own property, manage businesses, oversee men, and choose their own marital partners, an unthinkable event after the rise of Islam.
Islam liberated women
Islam definitely elevated the status of women. It gave them the right to own property, wealth, claim inherentance and to always be taken care of financially by society- her husband, her mahram (blood relatives) or by the state in the case of widows. Imagine the UK finally allowed women this right to own property in 1926..(13 centuries too late). In Islam, women are automatically granted custody of her children in divorce until the child becomes old enough to choose which parent they want to live with. She can own businesses. She cannot get married only if she approves of the person. She can call any amount of dowry that must be paid to her by the husband. They have a right to education as our Prophet said, "Seeking Knowledge is an obligation upon every single Muslim!" There is capital punishment for the slander, abuse and rape of women in an Islamic state. The law of Hijab is given in Quran to elevate her not by what she looks like, but what her mind and intellect can offer to society. She no longer becomes an object of desire for men like the sad tradegy of Western liberal values. The Prophet Muhammad told us about the great reward of entering Paradise for raising and educating daughters. There are much more commandments and injunctions from Quran and Hadith in Islam about how men should treat women, "And abide with them (wives) in absolute goodness!" 4:19.
Lastly consider the following verse, "Whoever does good, whether male or female, and is a believer, We will surely bless them with a good life, and We will certainly reward them according to the best of their deeds. (16:97)
I watched Abdullah Sameer video, where he says that in pre Islamic Arabia women were allowed to divorce their his without his permission.
To be fair, it is quite doubtful that Khadija was that old when she married Muhammad. She gave birth to 6-8 children in this marriage, though only 4 daughters made it into the adulthood. I doubt that would be possible if she was 40 by the time of marriage. The thing is, the age of 40 was a symbolical one in the arabic culture of that time, as it was believed that this is the time one reaches the full maturity and life knowledge. This is exactly the reason why Muhammad was said to be given the first "revelation" when he was 40 years old. The thing is, those sources are not the most reliable, as they came from an initially largely illiterate society with an emphasis on memorising, so those "facts" were more, let's call it "flexible" (by that I mean not very reliable). I totally agree however that the reports that Khadija was a successful businesswoman do contradict those claims that islam elevated women

Wow! I've been 'awake' since I was a kid & rebelled against the religion when I was only 13!
Now (20 years later) I had a discussion about this topic with a very lovely Muslim man & he assured me that there is no violence against women in the Quran itself.
For a second, I questioned myself ...thought maybe I was too young to understand the truth at that age.

Something that has always amazed me about the deprivation of sexual intimacy is that in most cases, it is the men who are in demand and the ones who force or rape their wives (Rape within marriage is not recognized in Islam) within a couple and take a second or third wife just to satisfy their desires. We see the sexual immaturity of men who must be protected by hiding women under certain clothes.
The women are being hidden behind clothing and being told it's good for them.
They take multiple wives also to reproduce rapidly and spread izlame.

oddly, when I became a muslim, this ayah was an issue for me, but now it's less of an issue. The nature of a relationship is that in general, men are physically stronger and should take charge of the marriage, most women would agree and want this. A strong leader should certainly take charge to provide a woman with the space to grow and take her role too. If a woman loves and respects her husband then for sure she would submit to him and be obedient. This is what many modern women dream of. That doesn't mean she should do everything he commands if he is to be an asshole. You know very well that this verse needs to be understood also within the context of other verses about how married people should support each other, and also the sunna about Mohammad's treatment of his wives.
Violent people will act from their emotions regardless of scripture, but at least here we have a number of steps to take if a woman is being an asshole. I don't condone violence, but judging this by the morality of modern feminism and liberalism is kind of misplaced.
The stuff about slaves is for sure terrible though.

In India, for example, where there is a strong preference for sons, millions of women are now missing because they were identified as girls while in the womb, and therefore aborted. Men also had to fight in wars risking their lives,work very physically demanding jobs and provide financially for the woman. The woman could work or own a business and wasnt obliged to spend a cent of her money. Providing for the woman didn't only mean bare necessities but also luxuries (from a home/food to jewellery, perfumes, etc).
Women weren't mandated to cook or do anything really. They certainly brought up the kids.

{ وَٱلْمُحْصَنَٰتُ مِنَ ٱلنِّسَآءِ إِلاَّ مَا مَلَكْتَ أَيْمَٰنُكُمْ كِتَٰبَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَأُحِلَّ لَكُمْ مَّا وَرَاءَ ذَٰلِكُمْ أَن تَبْتَغُواْ بِأَمْوَٰلِكُمْ مُّحْصِنِينَ غَيْرَ مُسَٰفِحِينَ فَمَا ٱسْتَمْتَعْتُمْ بِهِ مِنْهُنَّ فَآتُوهُنَّ أُجُورَهُنَّ فَرِيضَةً وَلاَ جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِيمَا تَرَٰضَيْتُمْ بِهِ مِن بَعْدِ ٱلْفَرِيضَةِ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيماً حَكِيماً }
And forbidden to you are wedded women those with spouses that you should marry them before they have left their spouses be they Muslim free women or not; save what your right hands own of captured slave girls whom you may have sexual intercourse with even if they should have spouses among the enemy camp but only after they have been absolved of the possibility of pregnancy after the completion of one menstrual cycle; this is what God has prescribed for you kitāba is in the accusative because it is the verbal noun. Lawful for you read passive wa-uhilla or active wa-ahalla beyond all that that is except what He has forbidden you of women is that you seek women using your wealth by way of a dowry or a price in wedlock and not fornicating in illicitly. Such wives as you enjoy thereby and have had sexual intercourse with give them their wages the dowries that you have assigned them as an obligation; you are not at fault in agreeing together you and they after the obligation is waived decreased or increased. God is ever Knowing of His creatures Wise in what He has ordained for them. Do you accept that your mother, wife or daughter be taken captive and raped while you are alive using sacred texts

However, it should be understood that their opinion is under the framework of 'no harm for slaves.'
I quote, "As for intercourse, its position is one of pleasure, and no one can be forced into it (la yujbaru ahadun ‘alayhi). He is commanded to fear Allah Almighty and to not harm her in regards to intercourse."

In addition to that, from Imam Nawawi, "it is unlawful to have intercourse with the captive women among unbelievers who are without a divine scripture unless they first embrace Islam." I personally see the spirit in the Quran as wanting to treat these enslaved people (who were already present before Islam) with dignity.

With that being said, we know these early Muslim scholars worked within their social milieu. Anyway, you can always criticize their ruling with the current social milieu if you want, focusing on what the Quran really says word by word.

the verse uses the word نُشُوزَ (high handedness/ ill-conduct) for wives but use the same word for husbands as well in another verse. This shows both husbands and wives have roles that should not be neglected. They work together to create a healthy society (families are the smallest units of a society).

The verses quoted before is the basis for Muslim scholars to allow women to ask for divorce if they don't feel joyful with their husband anymore.
