Been learning Chinese for 3 years and have passed HSK 5 after spending a year in China, and I just found out those tone pairs things. I can't believe I made so many pronunciation mistakes so many times and yet none of my teacher have ever corrected me haha
I have also been studying Mandarin for about 6 years now and this is the first video I have ever seen which discusses tone changes between word pairs. as stated before here in these comments, it's something purely unique and wonderful. Made a lot of sense and cleared a lot of conclusion for me. Cheers!

The second half of the video is gold (7:50 onwards). I've asked about these points but no one has ever given me such clear explanations before. Thank you.
Thanks Eliza for giving us a great feedback. I really appreciate it! This video is a clip combination of our Tone Drills Course. Here's a link to the whole course if you need it. ChineseFor.Us/Tones
I learn a new phrase that is “请个我读“. It means read after me. Thank you for this video because learning the pinyin tones helps me pronounce Chinese words easily and clearly! 非常感谢您 😍🥰
I’ve just rediscovered this excellent video. It’s been sitting there in my saved list all this time. Somehow you make it much easier than other tone combo pronunciation videos. Also helps I’ve been learning Chinese for longer now so it comes a lot easier. I still tend to try just mimicking native speakers but knowing the proper principles helps. Thanks again.
i am learning Chinese because every one thinks it is hard so I want to try it. it is not so hard but the tones are hard this video helps me a lot thank you 谢谢
I’m back to studying Chinese and I’m back to this video again. I’m really grateful for This video cause it’s very hard for me to remember the tones and I always need to good back to remind myself. Thank you again Lili 💜
chinese a little bit reminds me french when the word in roman is written in one way and pronunciation is totally different. when it comes to tones, it reminds me something what estonians and russian do - put pressure on specific letter so the word sounds right but when you start speaking, those tones/letter pressuring kind of disappear
This is the first time i visit this channel. What a helpful video. Hope I can improve my chinesse skill. I'm interested to watch other videos. Thank you 🙂
I'm just guessing based on what I saw, but first, it was bà and not bā. With bà the tone is shown to fall to 1, so it kind of makes sense that the neutral tone continues from there, also at 1. With mā the tone doesn't fall, but somehow there's a fall between its completion and the neutral tone, but not enough to hit 1. So, it goes to 2. Whatever the reason is, idk. Do all 1st tones followed by a neutral tone have neutral tone at 2? Also, I don't know. If this pattern isn't repeated, then I really have no idea. Also, the 3rd tone falls and rises to 4, then she shows the neutral tone at 4. Another example of leaving where the tone would have gone to, had it not been reduced to a half tone. Then the second tone rises up with the following neutral tone back where the first syllable started. I really hope these patterns are consistent. In the video, there didn't seem to be any inconsistencies, so I'm hopeful. I'm not exactly learning Chinese yet. But I'm planning on starting sometime soon.
your lessons are very good but /i have to admit and also would like to share that if we low down the speed of the video it makes it twice easier to get it, thats what I doand Im starting to learn. thanks
I found tones easier when I realized Indoeuropean languages have tones that affect meaning too, it's just that tones change the emotion of the word rather than the meaning.
I have a question, why is the neutral tone higher when saying jie jie and when saying ba ba it is lower? Also, then again it is pretty high too when it comes to hai zi
The whole video was very nice but I didn't understand after the 4 + 3 tone at 5:14 why did it again start with 1+3 & 2+3 & 4+3 I mean are they just reviewing or something else? Please can someone clear my doubt
I really enjoyed this lesson. However you mentioned that there were two reasons that the neutral tone exists. And said that there were two reasons. But the only reason you gave was that the character had its own tone originally. Can you tell the other reason please?
Hi Chinese for us I need help with the tones.is it that three third tones the first on change into a second or when their is two third the first one change into a second
So what is the rule for pronouncing three third tones in a row? They said there was one but I đidn't where/how it's modified in speech. Anyone explain this for me?
I have heard recordings of native speakers where they pronounce the first tone in a lower pitch after the fourth tone. One of the words was dàngāo. It sounded to me like he used the pitch where the fourth tone ended when he used the first tone. Maybe it was a half fourth tone, but I'm not sure. The speaker was from China, which is not helpful for me since I want to learn Taiwanese Mandarin. Does anyone know if Taiwanese speakers lower the pitch of the first tone after the fourth tone?
I've bit of confusion about 1st tone +1st tone and 2nd tone +2nd tone, there is not much practice of those combination words in your video. Another thing why you repeated 1+3,2+3 & 4+3?
Been learning Chinese for 3 years and have passed HSK 5 after spending a year in China, and I just found out those tone pairs things. I can't believe I made so many pronunciation mistakes so many times and yet none of my teacher have ever corrected me haha
A native speaker of 30+ years and I did not know about the difference pitches of "neutral" tones until now! Thanks!
I have also been studying Mandarin for about 6 years now and this is the first video I have ever seen which discusses tone changes between word pairs. as stated before here in these comments, it's something purely unique and wonderful. Made a lot of sense and cleared a lot of conclusion for me.

We're very glad that you find this lesson useful! Wish you the best of luck learning Chinese!

THANK YOU SO MUCH AAAAHHHH
5:13 - 6:00 -- I find it really difficult to distinguish between the starting first and the starting second tone. Does anyone have any tips?
I have a question, why is the neutral tone higher when saying jie jie and when saying ba ba it is lower?
Also, then again it is pretty high too when it comes to hai zi
It is explained in our Pinyin Tone Course. Here's a quick link ChineseFor.Us/Tones
I am not sure if I understand the 3 third tone part. Are they pronounced as "(yan2 jiang3) gao3" and "xiao3 (lao2 hu3)"?
I was looking for this comment now I only need to wait for a reply. ;;
Imagine being forced to watch this during Chinese class although you already know it, but great video!
I'm just stoked they play it in class :D
Amazing!!!
Great video
The whole video was very nice but I didn't understand after the 4 + 3 tone at 5:14 why did it again start with 1+3 & 2+3 & 4+3 I mean are they just reviewing or something else? Please can someone clear my doubt

I've bit of confusion about 1st tone +1st tone and 2nd tone +2nd tone, there is not much practice of those combination words in your video. Another thing why you repeated 1+3,2+3 & 4+3?
我的朋友告诉我,我需要练习我的说话,所以我的说话会提高。我现在这里。
