It speaks to the ignorance of investors in the tech world (and now biotech.) If someone had only bothered to have an expert in the field present before investing millions upon millions they would most likely have caught on to the scam.
@@hj2479 Agreed, I feel like people, especially investors, get into the field for the wrong reason and with little to no experience. They go in with the mindset that it'll make them a profitable amount of money just because it's based in the tech/medical field. No knowledge whatsoever. They should've caught it sooner.
I think this case is a commentary on the culture in Silicon Valley their is much hyping so much exaggerating in this culture young entrepreneurs I basically learn to behave this way

The saying "If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is" described this case the best right from the start when she founded the company based on that little machine.
I mean it could have worked if the machine was simply taking blood and sending the DNA sequence to their HQ where the tests were done on ACTUALLY WORKING conditions. That's not what she tried to do, she tried to embed the testing phase in that damn machine for an automatic process.
Shit, even if the machine was just a comercially available DNA sequence analyzer and "wifi transporter" without the tests being performed by the company, I'm 100% sure it would have been a success because of how many small towns there are and how it would have eased the process of comunication between labs and doctors.

American education thinking right here, basic division with rounding and converting fractions to decimals is first grade math. 12 becomes 10, 10 is a easy divider so 10 becomes 1 and 250 becomes 25, 1/25 is the same as 4%, round up to 5%. The way I prefer for more accurate mental math is, 1.2/25 is 1/25 or 4% and .2 is the same as 1/5 and we know 1/25 is 4% so (1/5)/25 is the same as saying 4%/5, quick math 4/5 is .8 (but if you don't like to divide in your head like that it can also just be about 1) so you go back and do 4% + 0.8% or 1% and you get 4.8% or 5% (if you were going with the even faster whole number division only method with rounding.) Even kids in what westerners consider third world countries can do basic math at this speed.

Nah, I desagree with the conclussion. If the conclussions were true most times, Theranos would not be such a scandal, it would be more of a common thing, just like how common it is in most neighborhoods in my country to have rutinary blackouts. That fact that it isn't a commonality at that level proofs that it's not the case, but it does show some of serious blind spots and weak points in those industries.
But when I hear Lily I always see her as competent and powerful.
