I just did twenty, and it was the most productive thing I got out of today's productivity video binge. It's easy as a content creator to wonder if you can cause a positive change in people's lives, so there you have it, you did. I was tired and enjoying a drink after work, so it wouldn't have happened otherwise.
I'd also like to add that, just like you said, I'd already seen all the ideas that get floated around. I started the grind years ago, and it worked out for me. Life's gotten tougher again and I've gotten rusty; I lost some of the drive that I had once I saw things getting better across the board, so I'm revisiting this as a content type to remind myself that applying the principles is worth it.

@@lauriex8832Not OP, but my take on that is, if you're taking up time arguing what a good man should be then you already have a grasp of what it entails to be a good man. So instead of talking about it, BE it.
Similarly, after watching a few videos on self-improvement you'd already have the basic tools and a good idea of what to do, so instead of falling into the procrastination trap of watching the videos and accumulating the theorical knowledge, take action and do it! (saying that as someone who's fallen into that trap).
One could even argue that, depending on what you want to improve, you already kinda know what to do even without watching the videos. And watching the videos is a guilt free way of delaying action. Cause you've convinced yourself that you need to learn this or that before taking action.

I love this message and it's a good reminder. I've seen a few people discuss the topic of the over-saturation of self--help videos, and you're totally right : DOING the work is the only thing that will progress you forward - not just consuming self-improvement content. BUT - I wouldn't have pulled myself out of such a dark place if it wasn't through self-improvement content / educational content. It's also better than filling your brain with senseless noise / entertainment.
To a certain extent - I think you're right. Doing the work is the answer.
But at the same time - self improvement content is so incredibly helpful and valuable.

@@chulde Yes - I see your point. BUT... this is me playing devil's advocate / saying another point of view in response: when I was in the dark place, I was "over indulging" on this self-help content because I needed to lift my vibration. My thought process behind it was that if I filled my thoughts with more positivity, that it would eventually boost me to make a change. What are your thoughts on this?

  • @LavaWander
    @LavaWander 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

I think it really is crucial to know when to get up and take action - it's much easier to bask in your fantasy of self-improvement rather than actually making it. However, after about 9 months of massive improvement (after 1 month of watching these types of videos) I have been going downhill, slowly but surely, and it's terrifying.
I think that is because, as you said, the culture we live in is what determines our behaviour. The videos gave me just that - I spent long periods of time looking at and listening to the people I want to be like, so that mindset was normalised. But since I stopped watching them for a really long time, I can sense my will bending to the influence of those who are simply not on the same journey as me, because these are the people I spend my time with (although I have been making some wonderful friends because of my improvement).
This is why I think you, whoever is reading this, should really find a harmony between taking advice and taking action, even if you think you already have the knowledge. It can be books or podcasts too, but I feel like it's logical to target more senses at once.
It's not like chulde didn't say all this - I'm just emphasising the point, as I feel that this may bring upon my downfall and I don't want anyone else in this position. Of course, we all have different problems, so you must decide for yourself what's the right thing to do. And thanks for reading all this.

Totally agree, i have been in that kind of loop where I keep thinking I will finish off this self improvement book first and then start acting ,this keeps on going. My motivation for doing this has been a quote from Abraham Lincoln - "Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.”.

Sooooo..... you're telling me that watching self-improvement videos are hindering me from actual self-improvement..... while at the same time, I watch this video that is at its essence... a self-improvement video?
    That's wild man.

It took me years to understand this. I quit watching self improvement rise and grind videos and started my TH-cam channel. I know it's nothing as compared to others but it took so much effort to Just break that cycle and actually do something. I take one step everyday and have a long way to go. Thank you for this video ❤❤

This is where i've been stuck; knowing but not applying it and taking action. Bit by bit ill put effort and stay consistent; and yes ill give myself breaks, reminders and etc. Thank you for making this video, you've gotten a new subscriber. Im here to support as we all navigate our ways through this long-lasting journey of better ourselves. Thank you, Chulde.

Fantastic and succinct via the simplicity and truth.
Last month I created a great habit: the 4th item in my Morning Plan is to "Health Bounce" on my Rebounder (mini trampoline) while listening to an Inspirational Message. Typically about 10 minutes. If it's a longer video, I listen in chunks.
When I feel like scrolling, I select videos I want to watch then add to a specific TH-cam playlist.
This approach has really helped with at least one area of my hyperfocus tendency 🎊

Your message is extremely powerful. Thank you for the video! I think that the majority of people struggle with “always improving” by staying in the comfort zone. This is the actual world we live in - with hundreds of thousands experts on social media, teaching us how to be more: Productive, Happier, Healthier etc. And I think we have separated so much from our own brains and hearts, that we All might need a big pause. In order to reconnect with ourselves. This starts to be more and more noticed - people do really wake up and start asking themselves such questions.

I think the main reason I keep watching because like you said it's easy and feels like progress. actually applying the knowledge is the hard but rewarding part.
    Thanks again.

The real question's is: What will the actions result in? Is it what your searching for?Is it what you Need? What will you learn? In what way will it matter? How did it change other people? Who are you doing it for? How will it change you? And Will it be worth the sacrifice's...? 👍

I just realized this recently myself, so I am glad someone else noticed too and made a video for it. I've been watching self-improvement TH-cam videos for years and not much has changed. They say 'Knowledge is Power' but I don't know if that's the case all the time. I think its just sound bytes, its better to read books, exercise, pray, get off TH-cam, and live life.

I believe the creators intent behind their self improvement videos, is for the viewer to watch them, and have that sudden spark of inspiration and drive to go out and improve you life. But TH-cam keeps recommending more and more self improvement videos with eye catching titles that pull you in and send you down a rabbit hole of endless self improvement techniques. There comes a time when you have to stop watching and apply what you already know and live your life.

You know what? I am not even gonna watch this video. Because I already know what to do. There's nothing wrong if you watch self improvement videos and actually apply those things in your life. But if you don't then you should actually stop watching self improvement videos and take action. I know this thing very well and I know that this video is just going to say the same thing. And whoever reads even a single letter of this comment. Oh god please help them make their biggest achievements of their lives, help them become successful...... Love you all......💝
