    I Just found your channel yesterday, absolutely loving your content and presentation style. I have your feed on auto play at the moment, I'm going to have to sit the wife down and re-watch everything when I can focus and take notes. My goal is to eventually Cycle around the Iberian peninsula.

    I did the exact same route in 2018 with my two sons. I agree with your description of the route and the scenery. It was spectacular. I wish I had been able to see your video before I did my ride as that GPX file would have saved me a bit of research! 😀 We actually rode around to Punta Sabbioni and caught the ferry across to Venice (Tronchetto), to add something different, and then rode up to the Mestra area. Thanks for the video.

    Thanks for sharing Sheelagh! Reminded me of my trip in 2018 from the UK to Rome. I joined the Via Claudia Augusta at Füssen, Germany and went via Rechenpass from Austria into Italy. Absolutely loved the Tirol. It was amazing once I entered Italy. Practically downhill all the way to Virona passing through apple orchards.

    Hey Sheelagh
    , Thanks for sharing your video of your trip!!! I did not know about this route,
    and I am now planning to ride it this summer!!
    I was just wondering what bicycle you used and if it was the right choice.
    Also I am curious how you chose your bike, because I know it can be a daunting task
    to choose the right bike for the 1st cycle tour.
    I have heard from some of my female friends they would love to do cycle touring,
    but they have no idea where to start, and when they do visit a bicycle shop for advice,
    they usually return more confused and frustrated than before.
    Did you just go to a bicycle shop, or did you get some advice from friends or the interwebs?
    Also, a possible topic for your next video maybe...

    • @SheelaghDaly
      @SheelaghDaly  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Paul! Thanks for watching and I'm so glad you found the video helpful! I actually borrowed a bike for this trip - a Giant road bike. It wasn't perfect and I'm currently in the market for one more suited to the type of touring I like to do, but it got the job done! I'm a firm believer in going with what you've got :) I can't believe the timing of your comment because I just filmed a video yesterday on how to prepare for your first bike tour and I touch on choosing your bike and set up! Not as much as I could have so I might need to do a full video on it ;) Thanks for the suggestion!!

    Though challenging, cycling the Alps, or mountains in general, is so rewarding. On the top of my 'next Euro tour' list is the Alpe Adria route from Salzburg to Grado, but now I may have to consider this route since it sounds magical. The description of cycling with the golden sun.... I felt it!!

    Hi! I just bought my tickets for september! YEY! But I wonder why everyone seems to do it in that direction, and not the other way around (Venice to Munich)?

    • @SheelaghDaly
      @SheelaghDaly  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahhh so exciting! That's a great question. I find often the "direction" of a route feels like it's determined by elevation, wind direction and maybe views -- but I'm not sure in this case! Hope you have a great ride!

    Awesome , just discovered your channel, I'm hooked lol! Question about sleeping/camping. Did you wild camp or stay in official campsites, or hostels etc? I'd it true it is not allowed to wild camp in Europe (except when hiking far in the mountains)? 🥰

    • @SheelaghDaly
      @SheelaghDaly  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aww I'm so glad you found my channel! For this route from Munich to Venice I used campsites. I link to the spots I stayed at on my website which I'll link here :) www.sheelaghdaly.com/cycling-the-alps/ There are some countries like Scotland, Norway, Finland and Sweden where wild camping is actually legal (check for each country's specific regulations). I wild camped in Scotland but for the rest of Europe I did campsites, hostels and warmshowers hosts. Plenty of people wild camp all around Europe (and I likely will for future tours) but I found campsites very reasonably priced and it's nice to have a shower and to not worry about being hidden! Happy travels!

    Looks awesome. Would you recommend as a first bike tour or does it need experience and uber fitness?

    • @SheelaghDaly
      @SheelaghDaly  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a great question! In terms of accommodation, logistics, resources - a lot of those things are great for newbies on this route. Lots of campsites/hotels/bnbs (when I was there at least, COVID may have changed this but hopefully not), markets to stock up on food, well taken care of roads. In terms of the climbing, there’s no denying there’s plenty of it! But if one has access to hills to train on and/or is willing to take their time on the route to avoid injury/exhaustion, I could see it being doable. There is also a train for the steepest section which is what I did so that’s an option too!

    i’m 18 and planning to cycle from basel to lindau through the klausenpass alone, i have a few tours under my belt already but this is the first step into the more extreme and tough bike tours, which i wanna do some time of course, so yeah pretty terrified 😂

    • @SheelaghDaly
      @SheelaghDaly  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me it was 8 days from Munich to Venice :) I like to go in one direction rather than an out and back loop -- there's so much to see! But whatever works for you -- I'm sure there and back would be both challenging and lovely!

    So lovely to hear this video of you Sheelagh. It's exactly what I need. In April I will start in Denmark and ride to Kalamata in Greece. My plan covers exactly that part from Innsbruck to Bolsano. So you understand your info is so perfectly timed and I will go through it with a magnifying glass haha to find all that you put in it. Maybe even find the kiwi plant hihi
    Have a look at vandam.dk and specifically ridewithgps.com/routes/30543306
    Thanks a lot again. Greetings from Denmark.

    Wonderful! I did the same travel in both directions, 2017 and 2018. Highly recommend. I also I did from Innsbruck to Brennero in train, because the first time I did in the another direction make me sick the idiots in car (the austrians drive as the italians, in Germany it's way better)

      This is a very popular route so I imagine renting a bike is very doable. I would start emailing/calling bike shops in Munich/near Venice and I bet if they don't rent they can point you to someone who does. Best of luck!
