- Manchester, a Gangster city from the early 1910's, notable for the worst gun culture in Europe's history. South Manchester's gangs became engaged in feuds with each other for the control of the drug trade. Shootings and murders increased in frequency in the area. This started attracting negative news and media headlines, with the nickname of 'Gunchester' being used to sum up this increase in gang, drugs and firearms activity.

I grew up in Hackney London but moved to America in 2000 .everybody thinks that life over here is so dangerous I live in New York and trust me the streets of London are much worse.we may have a bigger gun problem but that's only because they are legal here.every time I come home home to London you can feel the tension in the air all the stabbings etc you see people fighting in the streets all the time.

Don't know if it's what life was like in the 80's/90's or just the fact that I was a teenage boy but I was forever on the lookout for gangs of lads in Manchester. i am from cheshire and i was in my local nightclub,bit of a shit night so me and four mates went to manchester.most places would not let us in but we ended up in a club that was 99% black and five white lads from cheshire.this was about 1994 and we sounded scouse to them.got talking to a lad and he invited us to moss side to a party.we are all pissed so we agreed to go.got to the party and its full of blacks and the kitchen door was a bar with a old boy selling beers and the decks are sounding out and a nice smell of weed filling the rooms.i remember we were ripping each other about football as we are all liverpool supporters.after a couple of hours we went to another party which looked the exact same as the last place.we left about six in the morning. ANYWAY FANTASTIC PEOPLE AND GREAT BANTER.we would often drive around moss side in my mates car and buy some nice weed from the lads on the bikes.good days

Remember when organised crime in Moss Side turned pretty medieval, more and more people getting hacked with machetes (in addition to firearms) etc. Then the police pretty much banged up everyone who wasn't squeaky clean in the entire area. Crime plummeted after that but left a vacuum for other areas to take advantage of.. Salford, Cheetham Hill, even Scousers, Brummies & Southerners.

And the bookies in the prescent all the dealers hid the brown an rock in holes in the wall, when a buyer came in the dd would reach in the hole in wall an get what he wanted. Claremont rd was just one massive front line before Operation china pretty much closed it down where you got the best brown, white or weed for the cheapest prices. By chance I've just come across the video and wow brings back so many memories of living in the area. It just became the norm the stabbings, the shootings and just violence in general. I even went to school (Bishop Bilsborrow ) With Darren Samuels RIP! I even remember the riots in 81 and I was only 7 but remember it like it was yesterday. I worked at The Hacienda when the gang culture was at it's peak and spent a lot of time at the illegal raves in Hulme and Moss Side so I know what it was like but sadly I do miss the Nia Center and the New Ardri, long live the Temple Balls and the Herbal Tea Parties!

NYC during the 1970's & 1980's was "YES" a place to travel and for international business, but NOT an international tourist destination like it is today...... The point being made is that there never had been a place, time or era in the U.K., that could or would rival USA for violence/crime THANK GOD.

Heroin and cocaine are both available from any boots pharmacy, both in powdered form for injection. So I don't see how people can be upset at these guys selling the same two drugs

But there is no ifs or buts that another epidemic has got a grip back in Manchester and surrounding areas, but they'll never be anything like how it was in in the 80"s/90's,but with the dealers on speed dial no one has to go out,its delivered fast, but it's all pharmaceutical shite that's killing you of with cold not overdose now.

Moss Side is tough I'm not saying it's not. However Stonebridge and Harlesden up until gentrification were the most dangerous parts of Britain. A gunfight was the norm in the streets then. Brent, Hackney, Lambeth, Ealing and parts of Harrow and Hillingdon in London are now no go zones at certain times of night. Is Moss Side even still there or did they demolish it?
True brother I was brought up in Harlesden but I've been living in Bedfordshire since 2005 well most of Harlesden was reasonably nice but the Stone Bridge estate was fucking dangerous and at one point it was the largest council estate in the UK and I think probably in Europe but I don't know if it still is but now most of London is really dangerous now.
lewisham, peckham, charlton, woolwich and croydon is very bad too.

I used to go to the spinners pub in moss side in the 80s to buy my weed were the crescent shape flats were they are gone now I believe I went there from Stoke every week end it was a tough place if you didn't take liberty's you were fine then in the late 80s early 90s I got hooked on heroin I'm clean now have been for years but it had 15 year s of my life no one forced me to use it it just happened when I got made redundant from the coal mine I worked at to much money and to young to have the cash I received but it's a long time ago my fault I never stole from people I was what you call a functioning addict hard when you have to work and feel Ill but yea that's what happens I suppose and there is no such thing as friends in the drug world you can't trust anyone I've been battered and ripped off I was mistaken for someone else got a proper beating with a tire iron by this dealer he's dead now but yes every thing is dandy when you're high but shit when you are in withdrawal apparently they give methadone in the prison system but I don't know if that is true I heard it comes under torture when you are refused a substitute
moss side is not that bad I love there you just need to not be in a gang and your safe

I used to go to moss side has a kid from Leeds. With my family who had Friends there played on ALEXANDER PARK all day loved it never had no problems. STILL THINK ITS THE BEST PLACE IN ENGLAND. 🇮🇲👍🇮🇲
