  • As we know Eastern India and Indonesia have thousands of years old historical connection for trade, religion, cultural exchange and much more. So, during the festive season here in Bali, i went to temple and tried to understand differences and similarities between Bali Hinduism and Indian Hinduism. This is my first video on cultural aspect of Bali. In future i will try to understand it more and share it with you guys.
I hope you guys enjoyed the vlog! ❤️

In some provinces , muslims still maintain their ancestor style naming : [Arabic] - [Hindu] - [Family name]
for example: Ahmad Wisnu Kurniawan , Abdullah Mahendradatta, Muhammad Arya Wiraraja.
Allah also called as Hyang Widhi ( a hindu tradition for calling Supreme One God).
at 1980s indonesian goverment decided to send students to study Islam in Saudi Arabia.. this increases Islamic Fundamentalism / Puritanism in Indonesia ... but still, most indonesian still maintain our traditional values of tolerance toward our brothers of "ancestor ways"

Very less known Gupt- Dussehra - comes from Tantric traditions. I would love to explore more of Balinese Hinduism.

I'm from Bengal ( West Bengal, India) , i find many similarities with Balinese Hindus . After puja they spread the holy water ( santir jal ) same like us . And we can also do Puja without & with Murti. Without Murti u have do puja with the Mangalghot / Kalash ( water in a pot). In our tradition we also put a flower in one of our ear during puja. Nepali Hindus put the tilak with rice in forehead.
I think Balinese Hindus have many similarities with the eastern Indian Hindu culture and tradition. And in the ancient Hindu temple like prambanan in Java u would find the statues of Gods ( Shiva, Visnu, Sakti, Brahma) in the temple. Ohh in Bengal we also worship Brahma.

Hinduism in Bali is very different from Hinduism in India, Hindus here are very concerned about their environment

In prambanan hindu Temples in Java u would find the statues of the Shiva, sakti, vishnu, Brahma tho .... I think its bcz of the Islamic effect there is no statue of God in the Bali temples. Although in Hinduism there is the concept of worshipping the Param Brahma the Om 🕉️ the ultimate formless, expressionless , unimaginable divine.

There is an idol in Balinese temple but it kept inside the building. Only on specific event people can see that idol, for example during Melasti and Odalan ( temple anniversary) people will carry the statue of Rangda and Barong to the sea for purification. During puja or praying, balinese poeple no need to see the statue, they close their eyes to feel the energy of the god.
