Chris is so right. I almost never hear someone talk about the use of lactate in the slow twitch fibers as a mitochondrial fuel source and so correct. This is so important to gain capacity. You have to train both the slow twitch type 1 fibers and the type 2a/2x fibers. You have to be metabolically flexible and be able to use both fatty acids and carbohydrates at same time and then use the lactate to recover.
Great episode. Love Hinshaw’s thoughtful and critical coaching knowledge. Everything he’s talking about in regards to the brain evaluating current pace and future work to come/sustainable pacing is covered deeply in Alex Hutchinson’s book “Endure. Mind body and the curiously elastic limits of human performance”. Fabulous read for athletes and coaches.
I didn't completely understand Minute 1 of Recovery to catch your breath. I know he said to be consistent, but in doing what or does it not matter? So like walking around is okay, for example? But then Minute 2 he says to Move, which is also walking, I think.
TAKE A LOOK AT THE VIDEOS OF CHRIS HINSHAW AT MAYHEM (AEROBIC CAPACITY, RUNNING, ECHO BIKE, ROWING) AT THE END HE TALKS ABOUT THE COOL DOWN ALSO REGARDING YOUR DOUBT, AND OF COURSE THE WHOLE VIDEO IS SUPER INTERESTING FOR ALL THE INFO AND DATA THAT HE GIVES.
Just started watching some of your videos. I liked discussion w/Jason grubb. What suggestions would you have for a 57 year old guy, starting CrossFit, needs to get lighter, needs better mobility How can your talk about aerobic capacity trading help me and how do I increase it? Thanks
It's never too late to start training. Don't put it on a pedestal. Be consistent and do something each day. Your goal does not have to be to compete with the elite athletes. Figure out what a win is and go after that small victory each day. Enjoy the process and the results will come. Keep us posted on your journey and thanks for watching!
Your guest speaker was to the point, excellent! Very informative and great examples. However, the small jokes from the male host were unpleasant interruptions. Thank you though!
Yes- for sure. I would check out some more of Chris’s content on Instagram and it will help put it together for you. Heart rate training is one of the best ways to improve performance. Good luck and thanks for watching!
