Sangakkara's run from 2006-2015 was absolutely insane. He was consistently in the top 5 runscorers of the year list for a whole decade. Wish he ppayed on for 2 more years as a Test only veteran. Had a real shot at breaking Tendulkars test century record had he started earlier than 22.
Pretty sure I read somewhere that his batting average was in the 40s/50s when he wasn’t keeping and opening at the same time. But England’s batting was so unsettled that they kept giving him both jobs. As a great team man he did what they asked, to the detriment of his career stats.
@@craigalt2014 What people don't realise is that he used to open the batting in bowling friendly conditions (england) against the best fast bowlers in the history of the game.
Stats dont tell the full story and having been an avid cricket watcher since the late 1960s the best 2 I have ever seen as in pleasing on the eye and in total control, not just run machines or biffers...were Zaheer Abbas and VVS Laxman with Lara and Viv Richards tied for 3rd.
Special mention for Archie Maclaren (1901) who seems to be the first batsman in history to master the opposition bowlers, without cultivating intimidating "face furniture." He sported an impressive moustache in later years, perhaps in response to declining form. 🤔
Bradman best 7 times from 1930-1948 (despite 6 years lost due to war). Remarkably Bradman averaged over 100 6 times in that period, That is why he is called the Don and nobody will ever rival his absolute dominance.
Tendulkar was highly consistent and he came to the top quite far part in years which is extraordinary. Generally, batsman have a short spurt where they are at their peak over 2-3-4 or even 5 years. In saying that, Bradman of course has the best record in any time. If there was one batsman to choose that we can confidently say would be the most dominant in any era, it is Viv Richards!!😊👍
Twelve greats who did not make the list: Hanif Muhammad, Vijay Hazare, Neil Harvey, Frank Worrell, Peter May, David Sheppard, Norman O'Neill, Rohan Kanhai, Barry Richards, Vishvanath, Saeed Anwar, Virat Sehwag,
In his 25 years he had may be 4 to 5 bad years of test cricket ... 20 years he had great averages and in ODI ... he was undoubtedly at the top during those two decades...
Great to see 7 YORKSHIRE CCC players on the list (not inc Tendulkar): G Ulyett - 1882 J Brown - 1895 F S Jackson - 1905 W Rhodes - 1913 H Sutcliffe - 1925 & 27 L Hutton - 1939,49,51,52 J Root - 2021. Surprised no G Boycott, as he retired as Test leading run scorer.
@@brianrobinson4825 Nice one 👍 can't believe I forgot Kane. He wouldn't have made my list anyhow, as he's not Yorkshire born & bred. Glad Michael Vaughan never quite made the list - I'd probably include him as he was a career Yorkshire player, but born in Manchester and descended from the famous Tyldesley family of Lancashire cricketers.
Wow - Bradman had a bad year in 1937, only averaged in the high 90s. Every other year when he was at the top (6 of them) he averaged over 100. That surely settles the GOAT debate - if there ever was any doubt.
Sangakkara scores the most test runs of that year and retires 😅. If it was Sachin, he would have used that year as an excuse to hang-on for another 10 years 😃.
You sound really sour mate...sachin didn't need any excuse ..he was god's gift to cricket...he was the batting template of a generation...go ask sangakkara
@@docsen9777 Sangakkaras favourite was BC Lara. Sachin was ONE OF the greatest for sure and my full respect for that. But he is not some god created GOAT.

M Yusuf...9 centuries....😮2006
Bradman really did dominate
Wow great video, appreciate your work
Thanks
This looks like the players with most test runs in each of those years irrespective of other criteria such as batting average.
Great collection. Delighted see elegant Vengsarkar . He dominated the world between 86 to 88
Alec Stewart is such an under rated batsman.

One of my favourite players
Great video. Especially, I liked the way it is presented. It would be nice if similar type of video is made of great Test Bowler of each year..
Good job .... best collection
Thanks
Amazingly put together. Great video
Feeling good that a representation from 9 countries. Bangladesh and Afghanistan may mark their batsman in future.
How about Ireland?

Barry Richards and Sachin over Abbas for me
I enjoyed watching the video. It looks like those who made the most test runs in that particular year are recorded.
Special mention for Archie Maclaren (1901) who seems to be the first batsman in history to master the opposition bowlers, without cultivating intimidating "face furniture."

Brilliant compilation....👍
Excellent data collated .well done
Brilliant!...
Sunil Gavaskar was the first Asian batsmen in 1971 he was best in 3 years in that decade , that's why he is called the g

What about Ranjitsinhji in the 19th century? A legend. Indian but played for England back then.
Absolutely delighted to see the 1974 top batsman in there. But you need to check the 1973 stat Amiss scored 910 that year
Yohhhh these batsmen would make any bowling attack drop their heads😭
Interesting

Sachin being in this list at year 11 and 22 of his test career is amazing and shows how consistent he was. God of cricket for a reason!
I was to see usman as highest scorer in 23. Good on him. Such a quiet achiever compared to Australia's usual batsmen
Superb

Gatting can dine out on this🎉
Interesting the discrepancy in averages in the early years. Weather must have had a huge impact with uncovered pitches
Good video ❤
Ken Barrington. Legend
12:43 is a moment for fab 4
Nice catch
4 players taking over from Sanga
Arthur Shrewsbury had the 1880's stitched up
Nice
Great Job..99% correct .
Great Tendulkar only topped once in his 25 years career.
Not great ,very average.
Twice. In 1999 and 2010. :)
His greatness lies in his consistency over two decades.
In his 25 years he had may be 4 to 5 bad years of test cricket ... 20 years he had great averages and in ODI ... he was undoubtedly at the top during those two decades...
He did it twice not once!

And I'm claiming Sachin and Kane Williamson, as well

@@dazjackson1972That’s a cool list!
Btw did you notice 2018,19,20,21 were all distributed amongst the fab4 😅
That is a 70 year gap there. Tells a lot about how the YCCC kept their standards high.
Great video...Aussies take the cake
Yes. Especially In terms of the number of tests they get per year 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Anyone debating about greatest batsman needs to get checked up ASAP
Bring back the moustache!
Top form and prime age of Don Bradman was wasted , bcz no cricket due to WW2. He lost 6 precious years then .
The great Rahul Dravid, Jawardene and Younis khan doesn't make the list.
Very surprising
Stewart would have become one of the great opening batsmen had England not demoted him to no 6 and made him keep wicket
Ricky Ponting looking pretty intent, maybe the cameraman upset him.
Nearly 90 persent were their team openers

Good to see Mushtaq Muhammad, Majid Khan, Zaheer Abbas, Muhammad Yusaf and Babar Azam in list of legends 🎉
Isn't it strange that Rahul Dravid isn't there. We go just by max runs. It also depends on where you played and which opposition.
Yashswi Jaiswal for 2024 🤞🏻❤
So no one is talking about Wally Hammond featuring 5 times!? 😅
The answer is no
I was very surprised to see Tendulkar figure only twice
He was overhyped
Hashim Amla not on this list.😢😢😢
Also Sachin Tendulkar only features twice.
What an enigmatic lineup of brits and their exiled members.....you should have started it from when real competitive cricket was played....
David's name not there once?
Other players had even better years when Dravid had his best years.
Jimmy Adam dominate for about 18 months but he not on that list
Just players with the highest number of runs.
Yes....a good indication!
1888😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Where’s Labuschagne cause I know he was number 1 a few times
Not as per this criteria
Where is Rahul Dravid
“Great” is pretty subjective. Is this just highest run scorer?
This list is about best Test batter of every year not highest runs
Sachin and Bradman for me.
No Jayawardene 😅😅😅
Gavaskar only 3times
MAny more also kohli smith etc
2015 16 17 18 19 kholi and Smith ❤
WOW The amount of Bangladeshi players in this list is seriously Disturbing ! Bangladesh Cricket team > The best Cricket team in Bangladesh.
1st batsman to score 10000 runs in test Sunil gavaskar not Bradman is it true?
Sir Bradman scored 6996 runs in his career
Correct of course, gavaskar played 125 matches, and Bradman played 52.
Bradman also lost 5 years of his prime due to ww2.
Yes Gavaskar was first to 10,000
This video was conceived by a Babar Azam fan 😂
