I took the plunge 2 years ago and bought an 05 Continental GT in Mulliner spec. Lessons learned so far? Keep the batteries topped up - obviously it’s a pain if you can’t unlock or start, but also Conti systems susceptible to flat/low batteries so you get all sorts of captions/warnings when batteries sorted. Associated with this, invest in a decent diagnostics set (widget and software). You can easily reset all kinds of erroneous warnings, and/or save a lot on getting a dealer to do the diagnostics for you. Lastly, invest time getting to know a good specialist. The one down here in Exeter is brilliant and always gives honest advice on whether it’s best to have OE or whether an aftermarket product is just as good value. I keep thinking of shifting my car on, but every time I drive it, it simply makes me smile and it feels very special
I just sold my 1988 Continental R, lovely machine but it did have a habit of emptying my wallet. We took ours on a Continental trip through Portugal & Spain. During the journey it came up with a gearbox fault but like yours was driving fine. We left it like that and when home we had it diagnosed and guess what, no fault found so we turned to the sport switch on the gear knob, it seems it was shorting. It was cheaper to get a second hand Turbo R gear knob and hey presto, perfect. On the other hand I was quoted £5k to stop a sump oil leak and nearly as much to service the brakes, then 1200 to sort the front seats mechanisms, 1300 to replace the rear spring cups etc, etc.... generally it was really reliable but in the end I bailed out..
They do take a bit of maintenance to keep them happy I guess, but in my own opinion they are worth it. But with that being said, you need to be able to tackle most if not all of the required jobs yourself, as to be at the mercy of Bentley or even a specialist will certainly keep you poor!

Each repair you carry out makes me think I could buy one of these but it's never that easy, thanks for the upload - subscribed!
Thanks for subscribing! Some repairs are more straightforward than others, but ultimately everything is doable with a bit of research and some patience! These cars are absolutely worth the effort in my opinion. Alternatively you can buy mine!
Hi Johnny, belated happy new year, glad to hear you have kept the Bentley, and are using it, I'm pleased to say I owned one, and enjoyed it so much, I kept it for over ten years. In my case I had little or no problems during my ownership. I'm sure in your case you will hopefully have the same experiance, particularly because you are a very resourceful chap, who does his home work. like me, I expect you will ignore any naysayers, the majority of whom, have never sat in a Contenental, let alone owned one. In my opinion (for what it's worth) a well built quality car that goes like a rocket, and handles superbly. Enjoy.
Thank you! I do have a dedicated video on the Citrine on my channel if you want to check it out. There will of course be more content on that car when I begin the restoration!
Great to be back! The plan for this one is to continue to enjoy it whilst also working through it in order to make it the best example it can be and then it’ll be time to find her a new home (as much as I’d like to keep this one forever!)
Get a vw phaeton, same running gear different badge, same manufacturer a lot more reliable and less expensive to repair. And now people are starting to realise just how good these cars are very underrated.
Hi Johnny, great video thank you! I run the worlds only dedicated Bentley Continental Gt channel and its so rare to find any successful TH-camrs like yourself who a. keep them very long and b. show the process of each job in decent detail. Mostly its guys doing a couple of jobs without much detail at all and getting rid asap, which is why I started my own channel. Off to binge your others! Thank mate. Nige of the North ;)
@@JohnnyGetsCash Cheers Johnny, I'm like an older, less handsome or talented version of you lol. Great idea for the channel btw. I always knew mine would never attract enough subscribers or views to be profitable but its doing okay for a narrow niche. Cheers bud
Happy New Year, Johnny 🎉 glad to see you're enjoying the Bentley, and so you should. All the best for 2025. I'm looking forward to seeing how far you get with the chop to the top. As always, a great job 👏
It really has been a pleasure running this one as my own car for a while, but I’m a long way from finished! The Bentley will go when I’m satisfied it’s as good as it can be and then even bigger things will follow! Stay tuned!
@JohnnyGetsCash Can't wait. Watching your videos regarding making car's look like brand new is amazing and so satisfying to watch. Have a healthy happy new year. Take care.
Congrats on sorting out a couple more niggles on that beautiful car. Amazed you got to the clocks without a full dash disassembly, some designer with a heart must have slipped that through without Bentley noticing...😅😅😅
Johnny great video per normal. It is shameful that Bentley so overcharges customers for parts that we also know Audi IS making a profit on. I do not care about an owner having money etc. It is WRONG!!!!!
I would imagine if you took the car to a BMW service centre they wouldn't just change the rubber shroud they would fit a new centre unit and give you a four figure bill
As a wise man once said....just because its an expensive car...it doesn't mean it was made of expensive parts!. This was the same ilk as the Astons of Ford era....its made up of anything from VAG group parts at the time. You just have to work out which model the bits came from.
I can only imagine the astronomical figures involved in having Bentley sort out the host of minor issues these cars all have! When I did the rear high level brake light it cost literally pennies in terms of materials and I think the official quoted cost to have that sorted by Bentley is around £5k!
can have the Details of the Bentley Owners Club. I import. W12. Air filters. For many years. A lot on eBay, but not now. Ebay's changed it. Systems. I can save you a lot of money.

Brilliant. You’re the sort of person who should own a car like this, as you can sort out all these little problems yourself.

Great work! Always very satisfying when these annoying jobs are fixed
Gotta love a Continental GT. Love the shape of those.
The profile of the rear quarters is what has always attracted me to the GT. A truly stunning design in my opinion!

Awesome vid, nice seeing the savings on Bentley tax
Great work as always Johnny
3:00 I love how everything is just VW when it comes to replacement parts. 😂

Merry Xmas and a Happy new Year Johnny. More videos please.
A cross section manufacturer parts availability would be a real money saver on Rolls Royce and Bentley spares.

2005 on an 03 plate?
That's a cherished plate - 'CH03 PUP' - to reference 'CHOP UP' and my series 'Chop To The Top'

Needs a LS swap.
Can it be, and actual well-functioning Continental GT. 👀 I wonder how much you saved, compared to a quote to fix all four issues at Bentley. 😄
I can only imagine the astronomical figures involved in having Bentley sort out the host of minor issues these cars all have! When I did the rear high level brake light it cost literally pennies in terms of materials and I think the official quoted cost to have that sorted by Bentley is around £5k!
I think I would like to hear "I'm driving a Bentley" instead of the tick sound.

I would buy a car from you mate
Chop the top off it 😂
Come.back to flipping cars mate
You commented before reaching 1:24 or what?
Don’t worry, lots more general flipping content on the way this year, including more episodes of Chop To The Top!
Yeah we wanna see chop to top i will catch up with you 😂😂😂
You don’t count this to be a supercar ???.
@@brianredmond4919 Don’t get me wrong - it’s a fantastic, awesome vehicle, but by definition it’s a GT car, rather than a supercar.
Your not gonna get cash buying money pits like that
Put your hands in your pockets or something,
