      The stores are in on it. They get a cut with the criminals. When confronted they feign shock and surprise. It's very hard to pull this off without being caught inside a store. Another customer might catch them even if the employee goes to the backroom or helping another customer that iis a decoy to get the employee's attention away from the front counter. They
      Need to check their surveillance video more often. They need to be held liable or this will never stop. Your store and machine was compromise on your watch. It's like a nurse or doctor walks out and someone replaces the equipment or medicine with something else and the patient dies. Tough luck you are on the hook since the criminals should never have been able to have switch the medicine on your watch. The victims should have some recourses and not just oh well sorry crap.

      Ever been to a 7/11 when the one person working is busy? So I hear, it’s a company policy to respond to “GUESTS” as soon as they reach the front counter….meanwhile as “guests” “shop” in store, worker could be restocking the refrigerator or receiving a delivery - aka they are one person busy with every task they are paid to do…one might assume hire another employee BUT it doubles the labor hours paid at midnight when only one GUEST is visiting.

      Do you review video footage of every second of every day? I didn't think so.
      Usually video footage is reviewed when there's a reason to do so. If the management didn't know anything was going on, they wouldn't be reviewing footage. When the event occurred, I am sure video archives were accessed and reviewed.
      The amount of time that is saved depends on the size of the storage in the DVR/NVR, the quality of recorded video, number of cameras...etc. There's no cookie cutter answer for how many days video is saved for. My systems keep around 7 days of video.
      What is shameless and stupid is to fire off a TH-cam comment with no insight or actual knowledge of what happened.

  • @olderandwiser5916
    @olderandwiser5916 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've had that happen at our local Casey's. The store wasn't even open for a month, I went in, paid cash and a week later I saw that I had a $25 charge on my debit card. I talked to the manager, gave her ALL information needed, she said she'd get back with me. I waited for 2 weeks, went in again, talked to the manager again and gave her the needed information again. I waited for 2 more weeks and she still didn't get back with me. I went in for the third time and I came unglued on her. I made sure my rant stayed "professional", but I was so peed, I wanted to stomp her to the ground.
    I contacted my bank, asked them to decline any charges made from this Caseys.. they were pretty good about it. It's been several years now and I frequently visit the store and pay with cash. No charges were attempted on my card. I'm almost sure it was an inside job because I did ask the manager (yes, she was still there) about this matter several times over the past 7 years and she acted dumb as if she didn't remember.
    I let it go, but it paved the way for me to immediately check my debit/credit cards at least once a day. I've had my cards randomly hacked, immediately contacted the customer service of the compromised account and had it fixed. It sometimes is a pain in the tail having to double and triple check banking and or email accounts, but these POSs will not even leave the "little folks" alone. It's not like I have a bunch of money or any other riches. They often charge anything from 11 cents to $1 to your account to see if thy can gain access to your account. If you don't catch it, THEY ARE IN. So be aware and check your accounts regularly, stop this human waste from making a victim out of you. They might ruin your financial situation but for the authorities you are just a statistic.
    BTW sorry for dragging this out so long, but I just get carried away with this kind of s**t.

Either they never check the pumps, or it's somebody that works there that's installing that skimmer. I always wonder why I pump gas at a certain station and ask for a receipt and it never prints out, the screen tells you to go inside the store for your receipt. Why? First of all you're pumping gas and paying outside so you don't have to go inside the store, but 99% of the time, those receipts never ever print out at the pump, so I constantly check my credit card balance and don't use that store much anymore. It troubles me that people want to put this on the cashier when we don’t even know the full story of how it got their in the first place. Remember, store owners have access to the cameras in their stores, so how this got by THEM is beyond me. Cameras only work when owners are notified of something to review. More of a reactive tool than proactive. An incident like an unruly customer or a robbery the camera is helpful for handing over to the cops but whoever installed the machine cover was super discrete.
      Depending on the equipment used videos are recorded for a certain time (ie a week), and then overwrite the older data. So if someone says hey can you pull up something from 8 days ago - nope its gone should have asked sooner.

    I have found 3 on different gas pumps over the years. One they actually caught the woman. She left a thumb print on the underside of the scammer. She had set up a bank account different from her personal account so they knew exactly how much and for how long. Over 15 months she stole 367k from people. She got 12 years.

    This just happened to me a week ago. I stopped at a fast food restaurant on my way home from work, it was about 11:45pm. I gave the cashier my credit card and I saw him swipe it then give it back to me. I get home 15 min later at 12am and I get a notice on my phone thanking me for a $1400 purchase at a store- 2 PlayStations, a console, and 2 apple watches. I then got an email from my card saying it was flagged as unusual activity and they canceled the order.
