  • It’s our second day exploring Ireland’s ancient forts on the largest of the Aran Islands, Inis Mór! 🏰 We start the day off with coffee and our new furry Irish friends before riding our bikes to a traditional Aran sweater shop. We peruse the beautiful handmade wool sweaters and begin making our way to the farthest Eastern point of the island, an unnamed beach. 🌊 After a quick walk by the sea, we hop back on the bikes to head towards the pinnacle of our time on Inis Mór, Dún Dúchathair, or The Black Fort.
The Black Fort was built in the 4th century AD. While Dún Aonghasa was beautiful, Dún Dúchathair is much more wild and deserted feeling. We felt like we were standing in a scene out of Game of Thrones! ⚔️ After the experience of a lifetime at The Black Fort, we continue our quest to ride our bikes from one end of the island to the other. While we didn’t end up making it all the way, we did discover the beautiful Na Seacht dTeampaill, otherwise known as The Seven Churches. ⛪️ It’s incredible how old the ancient structures on Inis Mór are.

We love Ireland! It's one of our favorite countries in the world. Inis Mór was our favorite part of our trip. It was really cool to get outside the cities and in to the countryside. You're lucky to call Ireland home! 😍

Think Dun Chathair is pronounced doon kaher .Cathair is a fort ,but it also means city. The landscape their is called karst its made of limestone rock.Don't know whether you went to the cliffs of moher if you did you would have went through the main area of karst called the burren

The Black Fort is amazing. I once hiked from the Black Fort up to Dùn Aonghasa all along the cliff edge. It was incredible.
You might enjoy Andrew McNellie's book An Aran Keening.

That sounds like an incredible hike! Those cliffs were so beautiful. Do you happen to know why the left bay at The Black Fort is so blue? We’re still wondering! 😄 Will definitely check out the book!

@@marshallandaimee I honestly don't know how the water is that stunning blue. It's truly beautiful for sure. The hike was incredible but anyone could do it as there are no major inclines or declines. It was a phenomenal experience. Don't forget you can also fly to the Aran Islands through Aer Aran Islands. The scenery from the air is breathtaking.
