- Let's check out a few mods for SM64DS to get a better understanding of why people spend so much time making them. We'll also take a look at my mod, which is way better than all of the other ones.

This whole adventure took a lot from Kawashima. The poor man's hair turned grey from the stress!
I too grew up with SM64DS. I always thought it would be nice for the DS version to get the level of attention as its forebearer in modern times, especially in terms of the modding scene. SM64's modding scene is massive. DS? Not so much 😉
Also I appreciate you bringing up the 8-directional d-pad lol

.... because SM64DS was an improvement of an already very good game but on a mobile platform with better controls? Granted, Luigi was quite broken, but people who defend the N64 original are blinded by nostalgia.
Only thing I prefer on the original is how momentum works, going fast feels real good. That's it tho
you're very behind on the SM64DS meta, speedrunners stopped unlocking luigi years ago. Lol but yeah totally agree
@@EgyEmily Could not care less about speedrunners. They aren't playing the same game as the rest of us. Hell, they're trying to get it over with as quickly as possible, which is the total opposite of 99% of players.
Sure they get through the game quick, but the amount of time that they put into the games they run is borderline unholy. Most of them love the game more than 99% of players, which is why they take it so seriously. Definitely a different play-style to most people though lol.
I guess that would explain about the SM64DS Cap not being a thing in Mario Odyssey, since most people are blinded by the nostalgia of SM64 that there's a SM64 Cap in the game but not a cap from the game's remake.

Yeah I meant to include it at some point but never really found the place or time, super good looking mod though.

I wanna see your Pingu mod become a full game, it'd be one of the greatest mods of all if it does become a full mod. I thought that animation you did earlier was a cutscene in game, I would've been happy to see that, hahah! (Or maybe it was seeing as it took you a week to make that mod, hahah!) I love this game and I'm even making my own mod (since June 20th 2016, it's come a long way since) and I always love seeing other people making mods for the game as well. It's always great to see SM64DS mods being made.
Thanks! I might end up eventually working more on the mod for a future video (maybe). That animation was just used for the video, it's not actually in the mod. And I'm pretty sure I used one of your tutorials to make this mod! Your mod looks like it's coming along pretty well, that's incredible the amount of features that you're able to add. I decided to look back at this video thinking and hoping one day if I can make my own SM64 DS from hack with my OC in it, SM64 DS deserves a lot more Rom hacks.

I've played sm64ds on n64 and sm64ds on ds, and I really love n64 version but to me the version ds is the best version

Thanks! I never really planned on finishing it. I originally made it to hopefully make a video out of, but just making the mod took a whole week and I didn't really have any ideas, so I had to do something else. I eventually thought of this video idea and figured it would fit in somewhere. I probably will make a video updating Working Title at some point, sounds pretty fun and lots of people have been asking. I appreciate the feedback!

I really like SM64DS too! Are you planning on doing more modding for this game? And would you maybe like to chat on Discord sometime? We actually have an active modding community for this game on there. :)
I might do some modding in the future, but it would need to be something that I can make a good video or two out of. I've been super busy keeping a weekly upload schedule, but if I make another modding video, I'll remember you guys! I appreciate you watching!
@@CafeCharlie Maybe you could consider making a tutorial kind of video on replacing Mario's head. You did a great job and even the eye blinking animation works. I haven't been able to understand or get through this process. 😅
@@KingYoshi93 Oh yeah that part is the main reason that the mod took a week to make. One of the problems is that you need to name the replacement texture files the same as the originals. I might do that kind of thing eventually, but it would probably be a while. I've got some spooky stuff to cover starting this Friday.
