I am wondering how these compare size wise to Oathmark Dwarves? These look much more chunky, I think.

They are much more chucky, but roughly same hight. Hope this helps.

can you assemble the unit without using the shields?

It's been a while since I looked at this kit. But im fairly confident you done have to use the shields.

I'm I right with the command sprue it makes 14 figures?

The command sprue gives you more options, but still only enough to make 12 models. Hope this helps.

I know what you mean. Oathmark has 30 in a box. I think these could add some variety to the rank and file.
