- The motor is shot. Worst blowby ever... but we have an untested craigslist motor in the corner... perfect. We gotta get the blown up small block 305.... and jam in the untested bought off craigslist 350 in its spot we dont need no LS swap we are going with the old reliable carburated first gen small block... will it run ? we just don't know
Thanks to everyone has subscribed so far, it means a whole lot to me. Maybe one small click for you, but every one is a Giant Leap for the Channel.
Gang this is it- one way or another its got to go down the road. Either we get it running and driving down the road or we gotta send it down the road.

Owns a Chevy Van G20 myself. 10 years ago I unfortunately had a crank bearing failure. I lifted the engine out through thel right door............it's much easier. Of course, you must remove the dashboard and the console that sits at the front of the engine where the AC compressor, servo and generator are mounted.
interesting method its funny though we all have our different version of what is "Easier" to me taking the dash out seems like a nightmare lol
It wasn't a nightmare to remove the dash.....as long as you know how to do it. When I did it in 2013.......it took 10-15 minutes to assemble it with connections for ventilation. All the electrical connections are in the meter housing.
14:59 and the "big dumb cam" comment---- I had to subscribe..
Ha thanks man… nothing ruins the the daily drivability of a a car like big dumb cam…in my humble little opinion
You gotta think , what would Hannibal Smith do ! 😂
Good start Take your time you’re getting it done
its getting there
WOW! your making great progress on the van. Is it a shorty or a standard length My 78 is standard length. Use the HEI has a way hotter spark. don't have to worry about points. Just put 12V to it no voltage restriction needed. I have a factory Non EGR manifold if you want it.I so enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work.
that is the full length g20... i know the shorties are more popular... but i prefer the full size like the ones we have. I like longbed trucks better than the shorites too.
the hei is in there, it is what was in there before, i just like points... i just do.
thanks for the manifold offer, I pulled the edelbrock off the old motor and stuck it on there... thanks for the support good luck on your van
Good looking out for Shark , I'm proficient in small block Chevys . I try to help as much as I can ✌
Nice
Good progress so far!
thanks man its getting there
Nice work
Thank you! Cheers
2.02- 1.60 heads mild cam rv/ hauling cam will give it lump and not stall with a Hollie 700- 750 carb a 350 should do around 325 - 400 hp on stock bottom end !
R45ts gapped at .045 .
After pulling out a inline 6 out 75 g10 the v8 is much better choice to get in and out.
Is it still the ..I Love it When a Plan Comes Together van ?
Congratulations on almost completing one of the hardest engine swaps. Vans are a Bitch.
thanks man
It was not the easiest swap especially alone... but ... it wasn't as bad as let myself believe... i spent a lot more time dreading it and worrying about it than i did swapping it
Use some Easy Off oven cleaner on that intake, just wear gloves, that stuff is nasty.
thats not a bad idea..
Not that it matters because I would imagine you have the intake already installed at this point but look up "cast coat aluminum engine paint" for the future intake cleaning /restoration projects.
Obviously you got to have the grease off it but that black grime that gets down in the tiny grooves that no matter how well you scrub it you just can't get out The paint does a good job of hiding it not to mention it's smooths off the surface allowing it to be cleaned easier in the future and because it's a match to the aluminum intake if a small amount of paint chips off it you don't really notice it.
It will look like a new intake. I discovered that paint 5 or 10 years ago now it's pretty neat stuff.
once again coming in with another product I have never heard of... thanks man will take a look into it
@@betweenthesharksgarage I think VHT has a version of it also but the only one I have used is dupliColor I'm pretty happy with the results.
I just went on the "South American jungle" site (I can't say the name TH-cam will delete my comment) That's stupid paint has gotten expensive in the last couple of years. I mean it was never cheap but it seemed really high priced to me I would shop around when it comes time to buy it.
Wow ! getting tranny to line up and not mash the torque converter !! Either that was Southern magic or you edited out a Bunch of vocabulary and back and forth movements, 😂
You are 100% about the miserable sharp nasty body edges, those vans can be deadly. I know it is a bit more but I like you often had to work alone and I just started breaking down and taking the bumpers off along with the center core support for just that little more room to maneuver the blocks in and out. Nicely done 👍
I've got my fingers crossed for the Craig's engine being okay !
ha.. it was all a bit surprising... but i never edit that stuff out the whole channel is based on showing what a discovery channel show wouldn't, you know the real stuggles with the little stuff (see the episode where i spent HOURS getting a 4 speed lined up in the clutch on the shop floor!)
it was lucky i guess... i made sure the torque converter was seated in the pump all the way before i started. the transmission was jacked up and held at the angle where I took then engine out... and there was no room. So it was either going to be a nightmare or just go back together. the way the motor mount towers are and the line up pins between the bellhousing and the engine are there is only about 1/2 of wiggle room... so it kind of cant go anywhere else? once it was sitting on the mounts the pins were bound against the bellhouing... i gave it a little pry bar action and it literally fell together. Checked the torque converter, it was still seated in the pump ready to go... i suppose I am used to manuals with the input shaft, clutch splines, and pilot bushings all fightin me...
Hei is 10000 and up voltage.
I am getting ready to start working on a 76 G10 Shorty 350/350 PS/PB/AC ("Bonanza" package) plus original smog. Thanks for making these videos!
Yea dudeSounds like a great project. Super jealous of the ac starting point Hope the videos help you out
Is that a no a/c 305 ! Looks like it to me , bro gotta put a 350 " its same external dimensions! Bolts right up !
And did you get a chance to check Coker Tire for the ground effects for it ? Choo Choo parts !
1st
winner winner chicken dinner!
Why pull the heads just check the pushrods from the top .
So would it not give you some clearance if you took off that front bumper ? I know the crossmember is there but that another hurtle not the bumper !
it would but i didnt need it. and there are some 47 bolts in the bumper... the new motor with the stock oil pan went in fine. I didnt have the intake on it but thats about it
I want to tell you some important things about your TH-cam channel that will benefit you.
cant wait to hear
Man I've got a question for you. What editing software or program or app thingy do you use to make your videos?
I edit in premiere pro...there is less expensive stuff out there if you are looking to get into this, but for me the editing is so time intensive already learning a new program is not in the cards
I hear you. I'd want one program to learn and something simple to grasp.
WHAT? The Murder van Died?
well... I would not go that far... its a small block chevy for crying out loud... it drove itself into surgery...that motor while on its last legs...worst blowby ever... still had the heart of a hero ..Check it out here th-cam.com/video/Ku_vsYBrY2M/w-d-xo.html
