I picked up one of there years ago from an ad on atari age website. I had seen it on ebay and thought it was fake so did a bit of research and I ended up contacting the guy that posted the ad on atari age. Must have been the same guy because the post showed the same pictures of the consoles in boxes. Anyway I took a chance and when it was delivered it was like Christmas morning. For €150 I got the console, jurassic park, fatal fury, street fighter championship ed, batman returns, sonic 2, echo, mega games 1,2 and 3. All brand new boxed with manuals. My only regret was not buying more games as he had streets of rage 2, battle toads and others. What a find.
Wish I would have been able to find those games for it as what I saw in those original photos, still can’t believe how lucky I was to come across this, we definitely got something with a cool backstory behind it
Hi Kenz! I'm from Indonesia and basically the megadrives in South East Asia are officially modified Japanese systems. They just put a modchip and do some wiring inside to turn it into a PAL system.
@@KenzGamesCollection yup, they're very common here, you can buy a loose one for under 25 aud. It's a pretty common thing too to revert it back into a Japanese system lol. At one point, sega even had a factory in Indonesia. You can find a saturn and dreamcast that are made in Indonesia.
I have one of those Thailand Megadrives boxed up in my room at the minute! Nice to see another! I think I bought mine right around 2013 when they were found and I’ve never switched it on!
That’s so cool to hear from someone else with one of these’s I think it’s a great story on how these MegaDrives were discovered in Thailand. I still haven’t switched mine on…maybe one day, I would really like to find some Asian MegaDrive games also
Wow what an amaxing find. I really enjoyed hearing the back story about it as well. I do enjoying watching unboxing of old tech and to see a MD2 brand new in 2022 is amazing. I never was a fan of the look of the MD2, but didn't mind the Japanese versions with the blue button and maroon cartridge slot. The one we got in the west was a little boring if you ask me. Great stuff Ken.
I couldn’t believe how luck I was to find a new MegaDrive in 2022 Dylan. And the back story behind this is incredible too. Sitting in a warehouse for 20 years before being discovered and actually getting my hands on one of these is pure luck. Take care mate
Only just seen found this video. I have one of these Thai MD2 consoles, i bought it in a electronics mall in Bangkok in 2019. Its in mint never used condition like yours, it only cost me £30GBP. Could not leave it gor that price, so it came home with me to the UK
Amazing purchase Ken, definitely like a rare artifact that you unearthed. I would personally look if it's possible to get a box protector for it. Wonder if it will work with Australian outlets (voltage).
There's been a healthy resurgence in Sega collecting so that whole story of Pal being issued in Thailand is something else ! Hope it works well and we here more about the performance ! Also wondering what NTSC Mega Drive games your looking out for in the future as prices online for both the Mark 3 and Mega Drive continue to rise !
When I’m on holidays next week I’ll be testing the MegaDrive out. I have to sit down and write on a list of games I want for the MegaDrive and it’s mainly Japanese MegaDrive games I’m after coz I love the art work on those. It’s looking like the main focus in 2022 will be Sega games across multiple consoles
Great find Ken! I still have this set (the official Indian version) from my childhood in the '90s. Same Japanese packaging, but India specific markings as opposed to Thai, and PAL specifications of course. I even had the same Software Best Hit Collection games pamphlet, but seem to have lost the sheet. Could you please scan me the 6 pages of the pamphlet - you'd be doing me a huge favour - I really want my set to be 'complete' and this is the only missing piece :-( Thanks in advance !!! :-)
My Saturn model 2 is a Thai market one distributed by Galaxy that I also got new maybe 15 years ago….it’s NTSC but runs on 240v unlike the Japanese ones so no step down converter or replacement PSU required…..they were going on eBay as well wonder if it was the same seller
Turns out our HD TV’s here in Australia still run at 50hz just like in Europe, I didn’t know that. Back in the day with the older TV’s games run up to 17% slower but with HD TV’s we don’t get that now
@@KenzGamesCollection Fair enough. I've always had the understanding that most overseas MD2s have terrible sound, so was wondering how this one works out.
yeah it is original, i had 2 of them 10 years ago and i sold them for money... (no comments) ill try to get one again, i bought them directly to the guy who was selling them from thailand and from what i can see is the same, a "galaxy" sticker in the backside, i dont know why them had these stickers, maybe is a shop or the distributor. I saw 2 versions of them, one in front side of the box with a circle "pal" instead of that kind of triangle with sega logo, and this one (the triangle one). I think i had both of them, anyway very probably they are original but i dont know why they sold 2 "versions" maybe just marketing, a cardboard in top of the console when you open it, manuals with a plastic bag, european power supply. galaxy sticker, serial number (you can compare to another ones, in the one that I have seen on the internet the number does not match with yours (I guess the different serial number is a good thing) Another detail is, some of them had the sega logo printed in the console plastic bag and if i remember correctly another ones had a plastic bag with those tipical "red letters" (warning etc in different languajes like other consoles). One last thing, about the box stains im not totally sure but if i remember 1 of my consoles had it, one of mine had a corner a little crushed, as i said i bought them directly to the guy. From what i saw the physical state of the box may vary, maybe is realated to the shipping damaged but those stains maybe is directly from the seller, and both of mine also had 1 crack in exactly the same place on the console (i dont know why, but they were new), yours doesn't have it, is perfect. Enjoy it man, good piece for your collection, if you have any question just ask. EDIT: i found in segaretro that "galaxy group" is the distributor for thailand, they have only photos for your version, i saw another one from india with the pal logo in the box, is a different distributor for india but mine with pal logo had the galaxy sticker.
The Sega logo is printed on the plastic bag that I have and I have searched the internet and I am so sure this is legitimately an official product and like I said in the video the fake Chinese knockoffs came with 2 controllers. I’m so tempted to open it as I have downloaded photos of what a real and fake MegaDrive 2 motherboard likes like to confirm for 100% that’s it’s the real deal
@@KenzGamesCollection yes, yours is the sega plastic bag, to me is better, more beautiful. I have seen your unboxing, not to the milimeter (looking everything in detail, letters etc) just in appeareance, but for me it is original. You can open it(no idea if you have to remove the feet or stickers to access the screws), maybe just though the console's plastic holes you can identify something capacitors or whatever. i didnt open the ones i bought, people said that they were original and i trusted(i saw a picture from inside the console like you in a forum speaking about these consoles) again, in appearance to me is original, i cant say anything more, very probably is original but i cant tell you 100% is original, but very probably it is. I didnt saw how the fake ones are, another think i read is what you mention in the video about the expansion port for the mega cd, s your have it.

I recently came into possession of a Japanese Sega Mega Drive 2 as well. Not only that, but the model 1 prior.
That’s awesome, I still haven’t tested mine yet 😅
Very cool, Ken. I like the colors on this model.
Yeah I like the colours on this model, been told it looks better than the UK version too
Wow Ken! That's so awesome. Brand spanking new! Really glad you were able to get your hands on this, well done mate.
I can’t believe how lucky I was to score this Keith and the back story behind it was the icing on the cake
Had this as a kid! Used to play WrestleMania all the time with my cousins! Good times
That was a great game

You might me thinking of the MegaDrive 2 mini which wasn’t released here in Australia
And its amazing.
Yeah it looks really good
Wow 👍😊
*take it to a good games shop and modify it back to NTSC sir to play your games full screen and full speed as it is*
Thank so much for the advice

So lucky
I was very lucky to pick that up
I also picked up one of these lost treasures around 2013/2014. Price was also pretty good back then, around 90€. How much did you pay 10 years later?
I paid $180 Australian dollars for it while I think was a bargain

I still haven’t played mine yet
I'm curious if you've tried the console out and if so, how's the audio quality?
Haven’t had time to try it yet
