Andrew Hezelden's "Vector SnapShot", available through Reactor, will do it, it just stopped working for me, hence the round the houses approach in the video.
you ca do it with PNG images aswell using duplicate and extrude 3d. makeing from svg is nice but intill Blacmagic don;t fix positon of images is too anoying for me.
The .png/duplicate method is OK, but it lack the shading, and doesn't work so well when rotated as edge on the "layers become noticeable. But yes, I agree about the offset, it is annoying!

Nice video.. I need to try out the new extrude options. Looks really nice.. Just wish it was a bit easier to convert the png to the shape (SVG).
